Thread: BE/CH DE/DH Idea is stupid, Here's why.

A Bio-Engineer is dealing with an unpredictable living creature. You can make a tiger and raise it from a cub, but it's still going to have the killer instincts of a tiger. You've got to learn how to tame it. I'm not saying you have a point - it's a problem with making combat droids. That's why I'd much rather see the Devs focus on utility droids, instead. Make Protocol Droids and Binary Load Lifters USEFUL before you start playing around with Combat Droids and Droid Handlers.

Combat Droids are built with programmed commands.

It takes absolutely no skill to turn on your droid and say "hey droid, go kill that guy." If the computer the Droid Engineer put inside of it understands that command, it will execute it.

Creature handlers should stop whining. I can not name my spat, I can not teach it commands. HECK! I have to be a master CH just to put a darn saddle on my ride...HOW SMART DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO CLIP A FEW PIECES OF LEATHER TOGETHER? lol.

So, rather than do it myself, I must pay a CH to train my pet, mount my pet...pay him/her ungodly amounts of money for them to not sacrifice any resources, any real time or effort just to have my pet named Bob and know how to follow me to grandma's house!

CH profession is blown way out of proportion on this game. Everyone is worried about undermining them, when the rest of us have been undermined since the conception of the CH class. It follows gaming though...Every game you come across with pets like creatures in them, that is the class everyone wants. That is the class that overpowers everyone else. That is the class that makes the game no fun for anyone but them.

Personally I get sick real quick of being grouped with CH who have a giant pet that takes up my whole screen. I can not see my target much less, myself. These giant critters take my kills, take my xp, take my RAM, waste my time and annoy the hell out of me.

For 8 months CH have been running around with 10k+ HAM creatures mauling and overpowering the rest of us. For 8 months, Imerial Faction players have been able to get AT-STs and Dark Stormtroopers with 9k HAM while I a lowly Rebel can get a Faction pet with a mere 2500 HAM... HMM! WHO HAS BEEN UNDERMINED FOR 8 MONTHS? LOL.

Now they come across actually giving a benefit to the rest of us, and everyone is complaining about the balance of the game, when it has never been in balance since the beginning. If you want to be an UBER Jerk Player and kill everything, you have already done it, there are many of them. Luckily, those people have a short attention span and quit the game quickly after mastering the UBER KILLER professions. I enjoy RPing and Exploring everything there is to offer in this game.

It was neve balanced, and shouldn't be. My Pistoleer has no chance against a TKA Master or Commando...So, what difference is it going to make if I attempt to take on a solo commando or a commando with an UBER droid? I am still going to get Whooped! LOL

You guys are already stating my point in which I stated that "Droid can be programed unlike creatures, Therefore a CH should be more powerful becuase it takes more work to handle tougher creatures"

Therefore there should be no "uber-droid" because i have not seen an "uber droid" in the movies that I can remember. There are droidekas, most powerful I've seen and my rancor's/graul's(used to lol)can tank a droideka. So I think the current system is right in that matter.

Before stating that everyone should be able to use any droid, look at how the game is structured for a moment. A droid handler profession makes sense. Who among all the other professions knowns anything at all about droid use on a battlefield? The DE's? No, they know how to build and hopefully repair them. Some Pistoleer who dabbled in three other clases to get certs? No, because those professions demonstrate no knowledge of how best to employ a droid in a combat situation. It requires specialized training and experience. Yes, anyone can use the utility droids. Sure, anyone can use the low power combat droids by saying "attack" and hoping it kills what you point to. But the more powerful combat droids should be the realm of a profession dedicated to specific knowledge of their use and maintainence in the field.

As far as the rest of the professions, everyone should be able to operate several utility droids at once. This makes perfect sense to me and i'd like to see it implemented. Quoting movies about what you have or havent seen, or what wouldor wouldn't be starwarsy has no relevance in the debate. This game has a life of its own which seperates it from the movies and book. All that matters now is, what meshes well with the game mechanics.

Guys, we don't program the droids. We build them to be able to be programmed by the BUYER. Just because we build the thing doesn't give us the strategic knowledge of combat and formations to use it in an effective way. Building and programing are two seperate things. I used the analogy of a computer in a seperate thread and I'm sticking to it.

Oh, and I voted NO to the DH profession. I'd rather see Certifications in the combat novice/mastery boxes.

Yeah !!, And yes, If you were a DROID BUILDER you would NOT know how to program a droid. But A droid engineer makes the AI modules too. Thus Programming it.

The end-user of the droid programs it's commands but not its root functions. Therefore, Any Droid will obey its master no matter what. You don't need a certification for a Droid to listen to you.

And all you peopel think there will be "uber droids" you need certifications for. There WONT be "uber droids". Why? becuase SOE nerfs everythign they can. Grauls are USELESS now. So if you think there goign to let us have medium armor 60% reists droids with 10k ham. I DON'T THINK SO. So don't ruin us having the simpler droids by making us work for certifications.

IG 88 was a phlutdroid programmed to be sentient. he then killed his owner and manufactured IG 88 A, B, C, and D. He also took over the second death star in ESB and was about to broadcast a signal in an attempt to takeover. Rebs blew the death star before he launched his attack.

Some good flowing logic here. Some analogies car factory work versus stunt car driver. Plane assembly person versus combat pilot or air shows. There is every reason to believe that builders of some things are not the end users.

“POW!” one droid fries out before the trade was made. Probably due to the decay. “Uh… On second thought I’ll just take this one” as he points to C3PO and R2D2.

So the poor stupid farmers bought 2 more droids. And was happily ever after…until the imperial army destroyed his farm. (yay go imps)

“JIBBAJABBALALALA” questions a Jawa.

“Uh.. No I don’t have the certs for them” replies the Farmer noticing a loss in his farm production because he doesn’t have certs for them.

“LIBBADIBBANOOBSTFUTHEN” laughs a Jawa and drives off… the farmer sighs and kicks the dirt and he find himself sh*t outta luck because he has no certs for handling creatures either.

OMG!!!!!

I'm absolutely wiping tears from my eyes right now! That was the funniest thing I've seen in days. This belongs in the "funniest posts on the DE forums" thread that I'm building.

The point i'm trying to get across is that, having certifications for droid is idiocy. If I want to use a droid. I program it to OBEY.

Actually, we don't really ever see droids "programmed" in the films, nor am I aware of this being mentioned much in any of the EU books I've read.

This is the difference between CH’s and “ DH’s “. Droid have no animal instinct, they are programmed to obey who they’re master is.

Well, to befair, creatures aretamed ("programmed") in the wild. True, not exactly identical tostanding by a crafting station or droid but the same basic 'I'm you're master' message.

We also get the fun of "Taming" our droids. Does that mean that DEsare really just distant relatives of theCH's (with the same copy/paste content that we'll soon be seeing in DH's?)

I wonder how full the "Droid Commander's" Forum profession room will be filled with the same kinds of problems and issue threads that ours is now. Now we're up to 37 professions that don't quite work right.

Anyone else not feeling why DH shouldn't be such a good idea? It's a WOMBAT.

Waste Of Money, Brains And Time.

Therefore, CH’s and they’re pets should be, by all means. More powerful then “ DH’s”.

1870% agreed. Well said. I'm fearing that this is a distinction that's lost to theDevs in all these crazy posts.

I'm notsure that droids SHOULD compete with creatures asthe de facto pick for the "uber" combat-minded. That likely SHOULD be the case.

What DEs try to say is...."Droids are different, that's all. Let's treat them that way and do it right. Okay?". We've been trying to say that for about 8 months, give or take.

I just dropped CH due to it being so heavily nerfed, but I think that DH/DE idea is stupidity. If you have something programmed to work for you, why do you have to be a “Droid handler?”

I'd guess it's because they don't quite want to have something "work" that well for you. They want YOU to do it. So you stay...and so you PAY.

When in doubt, follow the money.

Is there even such thing as a “Droid handler” in Star wars universe?

Yea....pretty much anyone that you saw near or controlling a droid. They all were, if you think about it. How many people "handled" Threepio? 8? 12?

MDE’s should have the ability to use a “super droid”, due to their complex knowledge of a Droid.

Yup...that's the way that part should be.

Everyone should be able to use any droid they want. As long as the droid is programmed that Your Its Master.

This should be the way it's done. I very much fear, and have almost well accepted, that this will not be the way we ever see droid operate in SWG. Not even close.

And that.....is pretty sad. I've heard of/from many that state that they bought the game believing that would be what they got from an experience building droids in SWG. /sigh

I believe that DE is a crafting profession, and it should stay that way.

Agreed. 1870%.Justa hybrid(but NOT one that hurts the non-combat/purecrafter folk). The idea is balance/compromise.

Certs appear to be a dead horse that just won't be accepted. Most anything I've heard them say so far tells me that this option is likely well off the table. If it weren't I'd wish they'd just talk to use and explain some of the issues why (and how we can help constructively put ideas into addressing them. They DO seem fond of asking us all that, don't they?).

I'm beginning to think that Drashk's option #1 (basically, making DEinto the DH/DM class) is the way to go.Theonly way that THIS would be possible would be to alter the profession in such a way that it neitherhurts/affectseither the 'pure', non-combat DEs or the 'sometimes-I'd-like-to-kill-stuff-on-my-own' crowd (i.e. DHs). This might also make it easier to scale down development of combat droids and focus on one or two utility module features or possibilities.

Why NOT just save all that development time and simply roll intoDE? Don'tadd one more. Just fixone that's wrong now.

Just let everyone use the droid they want, because even the Hero in KOTOR can use a super combat droid (HK47 i think his name was, “Die meat bags!!” ^_^ ). And Jedi’s have NO CERTS in ANYTHING in SWG, except light sabers.

Well...I'd have to agree. Droids are supposed to be an intergal part of Star Wars. Most of the clients I work with know next to nothing about them.

I think TH and SOE lost sight of making a game fun, and starting looking towards the “lets nerf everything in a fatal attempt to balance the game”.

Probably. We're facing a lot of past unfinished work with the CH fix, the Jedi revamp, etc. I'm only hoping that this particular 'hot' time in DE live history will be the time, the FIRST time, that we will get the attention that we've lacked since before launch.
