Honestly Stryker,

I have a good deal of respect for you, even though we don't agree on things. If you ain't happy with the game and how it's working . . . it's time to leave. And I'll never say a bad thing about you or your opinions.

Glad we agree! There's so many better positive ways to express our opinions

I do find it interesting Bumbles that you chose to begin this particular tirade of yours on a thread that was expressing (however sincere or not) some respect for Master Droid Engineers.

Might I ask then, could you educate us on the "many better positive ways to express our opinions?" Could you give us some examples? I did a little bit of digging around and I found a nice little gem that I thought was an interesting "example":

" Thunderheart,

In regards to the following quote:

" . . .because the Droid Engineers were very clear in telling me they wanted Droid Engineering and Droid Handling as two seperate professions."

Where did this come from? Due to the enormous difficulty and complexity of your job (Lord knows, no sane person would envy your task), I've always given you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to interpreting and communicating the concerns of the various professions. And I wish to do so in this case as well. But you MUSTprovide some basis for this statement. Post a link where the DE community discussed the notion of a DH class in a favorable way, or cut-and-paste some private communications (edited, of course, to keep the source anonymous), or something that can explain this statement. It doesn't even have to be a GOOD explanation, just something that could even be REMOTELY interpreted as "DEs want a DH class". Do so, and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt again, and accept that this was an unfortunate miscommunication/misinterpretation. If not, I'm sorry to say, your credibility will drop to less than zero in my eyes (perhaps other eyesas well, but I only speak for myself) " - Bumbles, 1/19/04

Ahh... this might be interpreted as "whining" by some. Heck, even pronouncing that Thunderheart's credibility may "drop to less than zero" might even border on calling someone a liar or a ne'er do well. I couldn't with clean conscience dismiss you or your posts here as trolling on the basis of a single post, so I "gave you the benefit of the doubt" and continued on.

Hmmm! Very interesting... Found a post suggesting that we all should stop our assault on the DH idea and wait and see how the DH profession might pan out (which even Runesaber pretty much dismissed after we all mobilized against it)... found some other detritus of insubstantial quality... found a couple productive posts, that's good... hmm... an aspiring DE in November? Now that certainly lends authority to your posts...

All in all, you speak of truly productive posts as if you're well versed in their ways, yet I don't see much evidence of you making said exalted efforts. Perhaps you're an expert witness... "lurker" if you will, merely laying judgement on others fromyour position on high?

The proof is in the pudding, dude. Yeah, a lot of us may put a lot of energy into complaining but you'll also find one heck of a lot of positive energy being put into this profession by those same people, either through productive suggestions, bug reports, constructive critiques, actual testing, inter-server discussions, brainstorming, and overall communication.

You might want to put your money where your mouth is.

This thread should die, but I just wanted to say thanks to the person who started it. I'm a long-time master, I love it, and though I read the forums, I don't post as much.

It's a truism of forums. Happy people don't post

(Clarification: by "happy" I mean "happy with whatever satisfaction is afforded to them by the subject of said forum".)

I'm glad the others have a place to vent though, as long as it keeps them playing the game. Too few DEs in the universe.

My friend,

You don't know when I actually started reading these boards( hint: it's been about 9 months). You know when I actually registered with this scheme where "you must be a subscriber to discuss our game".

"you tend to get jaded" . . .

Get jaded all you want. Live in the past and lick all your old wounds you want. Nobody who means anything really wants to hear it -- it's time to move forward.

If you feel insulted by by remarks, I would suggest you re-evaluate your own numerous comments and motivations for playing this game.

I was insulted by your remarks because they were directed at the entire DE board community.

No one is living in the past - we are living in the present.

We cannot "move forward" if not given the tools to do so - we have zero power to change the code in this game. If we did, Droids would be not only fixed but flourishing.

I have found other motivations besides droids to play - if I hadn't, I would have been gone long ago.

Your post was the most sarcastic bile I have seen in these boards for a long time - the irony is striking. The person who replied wasn't agreeing with you - they were making fun of you for not seeing this.

If there are more effective ways to get things done - by all means do so. Educate us by demonstration. But until I see anything out of you that is actually constructive, I must assume that you are simply a troll, or at the very least woefully misinformed.

Sorry for the edit guys - kept giving me the uber-paragraph - my biggest pet peeve.

Virtanis,

Thank you for quoting my 1/19/04 post in it's entirety!

If you recall that day, you'll also remember that was the day TH made the infamous "DE's want a DH class" [paraphrasing here] comment. In my post though, I stated my problem with TH and offered a solution. It took a few weeks, but he did explain it and we have no problems now.

Can you say the same thing?

Why are people so proud of saying "I've been playing since Beta 1?"

Yes, yes I can... but I find it a bit humorous that you're trying to turn the tables back on me when you've pretty much ignored the rest ofthe points in my last post. However, since I'm sure you'd not lift a finger to actually confirm what I've said, I'll bring uptwo small examples from my posting history:

After compiling a long list of Dev quotes (which might have been integral in prompting JustG to offer a "clarification" on his JanuaryDE-patch assurance) many of us were extremely critical of JustG. I even took the liberty of quoting him in my signature: in the hopes of raising awareness for DE's and possibly getting some Developer attention for us. Well, JustG made an initial response and a follow up response that, in my opinion, restored some hope that our profession might get some much needed attention. For that, I thanked him, statedflatly that he must follow through on his promise, and removed his post from my signature.

Making "amends" with Thunderheart or any other developer isn't really the subject here, Bumbles. I draw your attention back to your rude post thatscolded DE'sfor not being constructive, etc. etc. etc. Now I'm sure you might be quick towave that plastic finger at us with sweeping generalities of unconstructive posting behavior, so I'll provide this example:

On 1-22-04 I made a large post in the Droid Invasion thread in the ID forum. Here is the link:

Here

I felt that post was an honest assessment of the situation... constructive, well balanced, vivid, opinionated, and clear in communicating our overall displeasure with the DH idea while offering concrete solutions. SWG-Runesabre came back a few days later to that same thread and made some statements that echoed the core aspects of my post almost exactly; and a series of solutions very close to my own. I'm not saying that my one post was the genesis of his post, but I'm responding to your "calling me out" on this.

Must I bludgeon you with more examples or posts? Really though... this discussion isn't about me. This is about you coming in here hypocritically insulting this entire community while an obvious novice to the entire concept of "constructive posting".

You chargein here with an attitude about how we all behave yet you can't show us, with clear and irrefutable evidence, that you're posts rise "above and beyond - in quality or quantity" the seething quagmire that is the DE forums?

You dare throw stones while comfortablysquatting in that thin glass house of yours! You come in here laying the smackdown on us, yet you haveno bite to back up that bark of yours.

I call your bluff, Bumbles... where is your exemplary "constructive" posting history, Mister "31 posts to my name - aspiring novice DE in November - TH has below zero credibility"?

Address that fact, and don't change the subject this time.
