I have just named my BLL using hyphens (e.g. TCON-Droids-by-Karlie) and it worked ok. What kind of droid are you trying to name?

Big sticky at top called "README FIRST!". Very useful. Has stuff like:
Part 3 - Programming a Name
In order to program a name for your droid, you will need to call out your droid and follow the basic procedures that are used for programming a command. The only difference is that you will add the name of the droid at the beginning of each command along with a space in between the name and the command that you wish to program. You will need to program 4 different commands, each time using the same name, spelled the exact same way. A droid name can only consist of characters that are usable in Character name generation. ( IE A through Z - ' ) At this time, numbers and other characters can not be included in the name of your droid. Key words such as Jedi, Rebel, and Medic aren't allowed by the name filter, along with a list of other words that cannot be used during character generation. A name can be 28 letters in length, with a 1 letter long command. If done correctly, on the fourth command the droid will respond with (DroidsNameHere) ? in both Spatial and above its head.
It is suggested that you reprogram the commands used while naming the droid so that you don't have to type out the full command, name included.
in it, Be aware you can't name the humanoid droids (protocol etc)

It should be mentioned that if a droid name is caught by the filter or is too long, it simply won't stick. You won't get any kind of warning ahead of time, or after the fact. If the droids name doesn't change after the 4th command, try a different name.

Are you using a name potentially rejected by the filter? Or trying to name a walkie-talkie droid?
Edit: Ah, saw that you've tried it on multiple droids. Make sure they're charged, and try naming them a generic name, like "Bob" or something. I'd bet that the name you're trying is blocked by the filter.
