Thread: No, no, no. Have the Squad Leaders control the big, powerful combat droids.

Yea, that's the same response I got when I put up a thread on the BH boards (while the Hybrid proposal was still "being discussed") when I laid out the hybrid proposal and said it would be difficult for them to get a combat droid.
We could offer combat droids to the merchant profession and they wouldn't want them. Just a lot of "Thanks, but no thanks" .....so, what I'm seeing is a pattern that says:not awhole lot of people want combat droids. A large portion of the community here doesn't even want them. That's fine. I just find it really hard to come up with ideas for droids that enhance a combat profession that doesn't actually perform combat.
Oh well, I guess we were never meantto have that market and will continue to only have usefull items for crafters and Bounty Hunters.
It'd make more sense giving the pets to CHs and making CHs a general pet class, than giving them to squad leaders.
CHs wouldnt get anything added combat wise, just more choices of pets. And considering how much CHs have been taken down from the constant nerfs, it would make them a more viable and worthwhile profession.

Yea, I remember a couple of us brought this up quite a while back... unfortunately it didn't seem as if the majority of the DE's got it. There was still too much bad blood between the groups (and may very well still be).

I am a CH (not master) and I LOVE this idea. I would go all the way to Master CH if I could use droids instead of critters. I started giving up boxes in CH a while back because I got sick of seeing animal pets everywhere I went.
If I could control droids though.... wow

I don't spend much time in the SL boards but from what I understand, SLs basically don't want this pushed on them.
That's just what the SL Corr. has put forth and I need to stand up for that. If they don't want it, they don't want it.
We'll get some stuff happening a different way, I guess.

Respectfully,
Thank you for posting this, TK421. The majority of people who want to turn SL into an NPC handler aren't SL's themselves. It's very disheartening to us veterans who have been fighting long and hard to turn SL into a class that benefits live players. Squad Leaders lead and inspire real people, not unintelligent computer routines that only exist inside a remote server.

Then I could be MDE and MCH......but it all makes too much sense giving them to CHsto be able to happen. All it seems is that people are trying for things that has already been said no to, and will wait until after the SE comes out only to be said no to again.

Well, the fact of the matter is - everyone wants everyone to be able to use all droids - as it should be. This is Star Wars. Droids have inherent intelligence, period. You tell it to attack, it attacks. You own it, it knows it has to listen to you. You do not have to train your droid, it comes preprogrammed. If you have a droid - it SHOULD be an advantage, tipping the balance in your favor. Balance be damned... I am SO SICK of this 'Balance' excuse.

i agree though... making CH a generic creature handling prof takes it away from SL... allows DE's to be able to use their own creations at sacrifice of some artisan skill.... allows there to be a craft level system similar to BE.... makes DE's not useless.... and can easily integrate into the current pet system as well...
non-CH pets would apply at level 10... the only diff between flesh pets and metal pets would be the DNA allows certain special attacks and poisons.. while the droids would be limited to energy, elec, or blast attacks.... it would widen the range and possibly create a larger gorup of CH's once again who want to control a rancor and a droideka...
like everyone says.. its the easiest way to integrate a droid system that involves SP without creating a ridiculous new profession for it.... teh craft system exists... the control system exists... only a few avenues would need creating and it can be up in no time at all....
its a better idea then 2 publishes and 4 modules as the large scale revamp
Hey There!
I just thought i might jump over here from the SL board, to have a little cha with you guys.
I can freely speak for the majority of the Squad leader community when i say:
We, the Squad leaders, do not want NPC handling ablity in our Profession. Squad leaders lead people, not robots.
I would highly appreciate, if proposals like adding Droids to existing classeswould be kept out of the Squad leader revamp.
You already made some people think that SL is where to dump Droid handling, or where to dump additional faction NPCs....
Taking up controlling abilties over NPCs will cost us much needed abilities.
TH said, every profession can have only so many "cookies". Every ability takes up a number of "cookies" depending on the power of the ability. To add Droids to SL would mean to add "cookies" we cannot use for abilities we want to have in the profession.
I do understand your need for a market and i understand your despair. But please keep the SL out of it.
Thanx
