Thread: Anyone else wishing SOE went ahead with Droid Commander or DE/Combat hybrid?

Under ordinary circumstances, I'd agree with your descriptioncompletely on this. However, the problem is that many of us (especially the really long term'ers), would have been unbelievably happy if they added nothing and just fixed all of the bugs on Gorantoth's thread.
While I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, I would guess that the large majority of us are not so much upset that we are not as UBER as we had wished, but that instead we are frustrated that we are just not as functional or useful as most other professions are, and we have been in this state since beta. We have had (and still have) more bugs per capita than any other profession and less attention and less (obvious) effort spent on us to go along with it. Though, to be fair, we've gotten quite a bit of lip service, which should count for something.
I am sure we'd all like to see the nurses' badge from two rooms away, but for most of us, we'd be happy if we even had the opportunity to sit in the freakin chair. Instead, along the lines of your example, we're sitting in our optometrist's waiting room being told we'll be called any time now...and when we finally do get called, we're given a podiatrist instead.

I agree with you completely Marc. My post was basically an outgassing of frustration and disbelief. I've reached my boiling point... not so much with the profession as with the community that is split so harshly it's preventing any forward momentum.
I would like nothing better than to stick the DC/DH/Hybrid/Combat-schmombat droid debates in the closet and concentrate on thebug fixes. Yet it keeps coming up, fueled by the ever-increasing wrath of the populous, and it keeps our wheels spinning instead of getting us anywhere.
Virtanis wrote:You know what has made me mad in this post? The thought that we should just cowtow to the Dev's whims and meekly swallow whatever they're cooking up (Droid commander) regardless of what the community wants.Yes, that makes me mad, and rightly so I say.
Never said that we should have given into thier whims, we all would have been rightly upset. My point was if they'd forged ahead despite objections we would have gotten something useful out of it. Right now, we aren't.

Yeah, we got plenty of lip service ("make your suggestions", "ooh, interesting idea", "nice, but it won't work") from them, but never ever anything official other than the DH plan.
Actually, I believe they said they looked at 'all the options' (3: Certs, Hybrid...
= Lip service, delaying tactics, untruths
That may well be true...but we'll never know.
and decided that DC/DH was the "best" solution (for them, not for the players).
= the "only" plan they'd ever consider doing
Again, this may well be true...we'll never know.
Nothing like shooting yourself in the foot, huh, friends?Hmm... who is this directed at. It's a low coffee day for me.
I was stating that a horrible communication mistake led us all (Devs and DEs alike) into the situation what we are now embroiled in. That's what I mean.
Not paying attention to what paying customers put in the 'suggestion box' == shooting one's-self in the foot.
Respectfully,
I actually am kind of split here. I can see certs working (but we've told this is a non-starter, for various reasons) and I can see a hybrid working (if it's done right/well). A hybrid (of those two) holds, to me, a bit more promise...since there are examples of it working already (CM).

But what about hybrid, TK?

DH/DC was, and shall remain, a bad idea.

Yep, hybrid. Wish they had told us. I think DEs would have settled on hybrid if they knew the alternate was DH or no-combat droids.
The hundreds of people that voted against it very likely are not incorrect. They knew it was wrong...and they are still right.
I tend to think that the hybrid thing has too much balance problems that they are simply unwilling or unable to address.
Of the proposals they put forth, it looks like it was DC/DH all along (due to the fact that it fit so much work they had already done in other areas).
In that regard, it tells that they never had DEs in mind as they forged ahead with some of the balance issues done to CH/pets and other related items.
Basically, the changes they made to the CH/pet system painted us into a very uncomfortable corner.

Respectfully,
That's correct, but here's the exact quote that got me thinking:
The first approach is to take the existing Droid Engineer and re-vamp it so that it changes from solely a crafting profession to a hybrid profession. This profession would be half crafting and half combat droid operating. The majority of the Droid Engineers have stated that they prefer it to be a crafting only profession so development has discarded this as an option. (I mis-spoke on the Droid Handler issue. My apologies).
Right now, I would prefer this first option the way things are headed, with little utility actually in the works.

This is the only way to do things quickly and efficiently.
We are being sadly let down on Utility plans, and the people who voted for Utility must see that. There are no real sellers in that list.
If anyone wants to make and sell new droids before Christmas, it has to be Hybrid.
So, HYBRID, and quickly

I always advocated the hybrid, but I dont think that a Droid Commander is the way to go. It always smacked too much of metallic CH, and we dont need any more professions added to this game that are so similar to others.
Because lets face it, it shouldve always been the DC in the begining, with CHs being the hybrid profession.

Or, the often mentioned but also just as often over-looked "mini-profession".
Say, one or two skill trees instead of the traditional 4.
Give people who only have a few points the ability to own droids of decent calliber. We don't need CL-70 pets - those are for CH's. I'd say the perfect amount of points is whatever a BH has leftover - what is that, like 18? Maybe CL-25/30 droids.

ETG is right of course, DE should have been DC level abilities right from the start, and CH should have been the hybrid..
From where we now sit, even a mini profession (as you say sufficient to allow Bounty Hunters to play along) might be viable. That would be a fudge job..but it may be the only way..I dont know.
I do know that what we are getting is not enough.
