Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: The DE community needs to read this information immediatly!
I think i just wet my pants.
Not that I have any bladder problems or anything.......infectious.....

Sorry, but i'll beleive it when the changes actually go live.. til then bah-humbug..
The empire has absolute control over the planets it chooses to control (something the old republic never did) and the empire just wouldnt allow civilians to have state of the art combat droids as it creates opportunities for the empire to be opposed.
Any and all 'security' droids of this time period are set to stun only, military droids are just that, reserved for the military and assasin droids are just plain illegal (even if you are an imperial officer - not that this stopped some...)
My point is that 3POs and R2s with (hidden) blasters are much _more_ in keeping with the time period than every man and his brother walking around with a Droideka (or several), and the process of 'hacking' a droids basic life preservation programming and jury rigging hidden (and illegal) weapons into existing civilian droid chassis is much more of what I thought the DE profession is going to be about
What I really dont want to see are the CH outcats turning DE just to become the new 'one man army' powergamer profession - it has nothing to do with markets and money it has everything to do with continuity and the star wars setting
While star wars isnt pet wars, neither is the SWG timeframe droid wars!
Smugglers sell illegal spices, but that doesn't stop them from calling them out on the streets.
Personally, I think the mere sight of a Combat Droid ought to cause Imperial faction NPCs to attack the owner, even if the owner is an Imperial.
Well, given that my characters ARE the Imperial military, which uses many different kinds of combat droids, I suppose I'm justified in having them. And you're wrong about combat droids being present. There weren't any in Episodes 4-6, but in parts 1-3 and 7-9 they're extremely prevalent. In addition, if you go into the stuff that wasn't in the original 3 movies, you actually see that there are quite a few combat droids out there in use.
Does that mean that the guy down the street has a Droideka? Probably not. Nor do most of them have an IG-88. But they could get their local droid mechanic buddy to maybe slap a firearm onto a few protocol droids if they feel the need to kill somebody...
Great, I'm stuck as a droid engineer for another three freakin' months?!? Thought I could finally get out of this bunk profession. Stupid holocron telling me to do this.
Ok, a bit of a lie there. Glad that I stuck through for the thin and the thick and finally we get to see the perks. Boo hiss to all of you naysayers out there
Ya, saw that but wasn't going to say anything untill they actually posted the threads for forum changes and droid invasion.
Forum changes have some good and some bad - no more general SWG Discusssion forum.
"Take it to the Galaxy servers" - BAH!
Droid changes aren't anything new until we get the thread posted.
Wherever it might show up.....
The second component will be a reiteration of the Droid Engineer profession
Does this mean those who havent grinded to MDE need to think about doing so now?? i get this feeling and will make **edit** sure i can grind to MDE ASAP.
As for the balancing this is what i can see happening (based on what i know about CH).
Novice skill levels at level 1: basic chassis will expand to include more than just the MSE - youll probably be able to make half the existing droids with all basic modules (including the new combat modules) once you have 1-1-1-1.
Skill level 2: equalling the curent blueprint 4 level of droids and including almost all crafting modules.
Skill level 3: the ultimate in personal combat droids (im thinking Episode 1 shield generating battledroids).
Skill level 4 and master DE: Assualt Droids ( droid tanks ) and other stuff that is for mass battles.
Why do i think this will be good?
...for one it enables people tomake the basic droids that alot of people will use without needing to max out DE (casual crafters) and will enable those trying to master DE to make a substantal profit early on in their DE profession.
...second DEs attempting to master the profession should still have some roll in combat - make it so that only a DE can control and use the Assualt droids giving DEs a place on the battlefield if they so choose.
... lastly giving the new combat modules restrictions similar to CH creature levels would give the DE profession a more unique look - imagine if you would DE droids and Non-DE droids, suddenly pulling out that droid tank next to the CHs rancor would put some serious fear into an opponent
Alternatively you could (if you didnt want to limit droids to specific professions) have DEs the ability to use droid control stations (such as the trade federations droid control ships) that enable DE to use lots of weak (battledroids) at once and control them in combat formations.
im hoping for good things from this.
