i do it becuase i enjoy building droids. no other reason. Do i make money yes. Tons like armor smiths no, but i feel i do ok and have fun in the process that is the most important thing about it.

Droids == the 'goodness' of Star Wars.

Respectfully,
qfe!
Seriously, thats why I play this game, because its some semblance of star wars to hold me over until the next movie comes out....
Things that currently occupy my time in swg are being a DE (MDE for over a year now), and flying around as a Rebel Pilot Ace on my primary account. I used to say being an MA-DE (master artisan droid engineer) supported my fighting habit, and now it supports my flying habit. I run a large operation, and try to make factory runs of the most popular droids (especially jtls droids/chips). I'm making pretty good money, and I dont charge a whole lot (I sell to a lot of people, 2.5k for a v6 flight computer, same for a pack of 5 droid chips). According to The Merchant's Friend I've made 3M in less than 2 weeks (I started using it because my email box was getting too busy to accurately track).

I never got into DE to make money - I got into it because I love droids and I love playing a tradskill class (regardless of game).

i became a DE when i heard you had to be MDE to craft mando helmet
then i found out it hasnt been done on my server. so thats my goal now
(have also crafted jetpacks, but zorkk is our girl for that
)
however, i've come to like being a DE, and building droids is fun, even if we are hated by the devs (you all know what i mean)... but as i chose to be a wookiee, being hated by devs comes as standard
can be a bit annoying when people want to know just what can go in a droid, but i macroed it up, so anytime someone asks me "what can you put in a droid?".... shift-F7 and i'm done
i only make one-off things, and i've only factory ran ONE set of droids, that was a friends order. i'm also generally too lazy to craft droids, so i just send them to zorkk
we have a love/hate relationship
you cant expect to make good money as a DE, i am master swords and MDE, and i make all my money through combat, which is why i sell my droids so cheap (cos i dont care bout the money). i make more money off a few good loots than i do with a days worth of droid crafting
things to do before i unlock jedi and drop DE:
1) craft my own mando helmet (very close to that one now!!)
2) craft 1000 MSE bomb droids, find a few commando/smuggler pals, find an NS elder
3) craft 5 droids for my alt when i unlock
4) give all spare leftover parts to zorkk as compensation

more then break even but sometimes can be a big pain in the arse, specifically making 2000 part runs just so in the end you can make 125 r3 chassis's :/

I bought a second account to master shipwright for my guild
I decided to master shipwright, and found out you needed parts from a droid engineer, so I thought I would save some time and money and go DE to build what was needed, I quickly found out there isnt much you need with master droid engineer for shipwright..... I've always wanted to go DE tho so I don't plan on dropping it
currently I am a master artisan/shipwright/de and going 4/1/4/4 in merchant

Problem on my server is that most droid customers have ADD or something because they cant stand to stay around to listen to my answers to their questions.
"what do you want on your droid?"
I dont know..
"what do you want it to do?"
I dont know..
"what profession are you?"
I dont know..
"why are you asking for a droid?"
AFK AUTO RESPOSE: I dont know.

I've been dabbling in DE for a little while. I was in a guild and they wanted to push me down the Amorsmith tree. But when I looked at how many Armorsmiths there were it seemed fairly pointless - but Tailors and DE's seemed far fewer in number. Also droids have always been pivotal in the films and being a De seemed like a good way to get my hands "dirty"
Cheers
