Thread: Droid Module Focus (Playback module): Information, discussion and bug-reporting (04/15/04)
some of these may already be answered, but I just wanted to copy and paste it all...
- have they fixed the /flourish for the droid? [do they intend to?]
- can novice dancers use the droid?
- what are the experimental qualities (if any) of the Dual Wave Synthesizer /
Playback Module/ final droid
- what is the end user effect of Experimental Durability (Decay Rate) and Experimental Effectiveness (Mechanism Quality) with the Playback Module?
- what skill mod does the experimentation use? (general artisan, instrument crafting, etc.)
- do all the musician commands work while using the droid? (/changebandmusic, /stopband, /startband, /changesong, etc.)
- doesone have to be playing/dancing for the playback to work?
- is it possible to get another musician to record a song on the droid then transfer the droid back and the song still work? (i.e. I do not have Master Entertainer, and I'd like to get one of my mE friends to record SW1 on the mandoviol!
)
I think that's all for now... please please test these!
if the bugs get to live, they will never fix them (theater)
thanks alot!

greetings DEs! ... I was hoping some of you could help us Musicians and Dancers out a bit... I know you are all busy testing the other droids, but if you have a chance...
my char on TC is not able to test this out because it can only be used by novice+ so here are my questions for those of you that are able to test it...

if the bugs get to live, they will never fix them (theater) Not only is this not true, but unfair to the devs. They fix a lot of bugs on live. some take longer then others to fix (because they dont have time to fix everything when they are on a schedule) - but they will get around to it if its a big bug. For the most part, they dont get a real choice what they can work on at any given time.
thanks alot!

For the most part, LeBob, DE's cannot test the things your asking here. Were not entertainers ourselves and cannot use these modules.
Now, i have given and sold a ton of these to musicians and dancers on TC. try checking out your forums and get these questions asked there by someone who has used them or has the ability to use them.

I have tested this module on the TC, and I am a Novice Musician with Music Knowledge II.
The playback module only records song and instrument, and you need to play for 30 seconds to make the droid do a successful recording. No flourishes or bandflourishes is recorded, but as Tk says, it does accept bandflourishes just like a normal bandmember.
It is therefore possible to program the droid using a macro at the same time. It is advisable to use /bandflourish [1-8] {instrument}, and specify the instrument the droid plays, so that the bandflourishes do not interfere with other musicians playing in the same group. Alternatively, those that do not want to be influenced by /bandflourishes can do /bandflourish off.
Here is a small buglist that I have found:
- can't record flourishes (this might be intentional)
- forgets song and instrument when you store and recall the droid
- can't listen to a droid, unless you are in a group with it, or you listen to someone grouping with the droid
Of these, I think the second bug is the most important one to fix....it should not be necessary for a musician to reprogram the droid everytime he wants to play something together with it. You should only have to reprogram the droid if you want to change the selection of instruments/songs you want the droid to have recorded.

There are a lot of droid modules like that however. They have experimental values but we dont notice anything changed using the experimetned ones and the non-experimented ones.

The issue with those is that it is technically an Outdoors area. Its the same issue with trying to do things on the roof or balconies of other structures. Its a difficult task to try to keep these things acting like indoors, but viewable outdoors, and not allowing people to clutter the outside world at the same time. I am sure they are working on it (its been an issue with the PA halls for a long time, and its on their list).
thanks alot!

I know that, but I'm sure the musicians from TC come here to see the bugs and stuff for this, as I have read above. They do - but most likely, they will go to their coorespondants - which will contact TK-421 (he has been working very closely with the entertainer correspondantsmaking sure they got the modules and were able to test it out)

I asked this morning specifically to entertainers if they could give me feedback on their droids - only thing i got back was that they are working great - no problems
thanks foryour help

I'm not so sure about that.......... the /bandflourish prevents everyone else in the group from receiving xp except the one that executed it, but with the instrument name in it maybe it will allow everyone without that instrument to receive xp
dunno
With the instrument name specified, anyone not playing that instrument will act as if no /bandflourish was issued. Therefore they should continue to receive XP as long as they are doing their own flourishes.
To get this thread back on track...
It's been stated that multiple modules can be used to record different song/instruments, though they can not be played at the same time. How do you pick which track you want to play? What happens if you are playing a different song than the droid is -does it sound like a hologrinding session in Theed or does it give an error (as it should)?

there's a nifty little interface that displays all of the tracks that the droid has along with song name and instrument name
you click the track and click play
the droid will stop playing if you /changebandmusic to a song he does not know (which is great!), but does not give any error (which I think is fine)

to do a /flourish ... the /bandflourish makes everyone in the group do the same flourish and doesn't allow others to get music xp, so this is undesirable
thanks, but I think the XP is still a bit of a problem, but that could be resolved separately from this and indeed needs to be
This module ispurely aesthetic, first of all. The only reason I would have this droid out is to layer the music with a different instrument than the one I was already playing. If I am in a very small band (2-3) the droid could accompany us on the Omni-box or something while one person plays the Nargalon, one person plays the Chindikalu horn, and one person plays the Kloo horn. Bandflourishes are extremely cool and sound great with a small band such as this.
So you are right, the bandflourish XP should be changed.A bandflourish changemight also be a good change to combat the AFK plague, since if you got MORE XP for bandflourishes and for good choreography, it wouldn't encourage everyone in the band to be doing thier own thing.
Number one reason I would have this droid is to keep my own ears from frying when playing solo. Or so I could play the Nargalon or Omni-box, which in general sound terrible solo, while the droid plays a horn. The listener doesn't even benefit unless they are in the same group, so again, this is purely aesthetic for the musician. I don't even see a market for these beyond master musicians, because the majority is grinding and don't give a rat's rear about how the band sounds.
As a Master Musician and a former Master DE, I have to say that although I would buy and use one of these, I don't think it is going to bevery marketable. I can afford the droid, I can program the droid, I play solo quite often on adventure planets and not AFK, and I will actually bother with it. There aren't a lot of musicians who meet that criteria.
/agree with both posts above
and
MSE droid with playback module keeps sinking below the floor at NU cantina
when using /bandflourish the droid's action pool is depleted... it should only deplete the batteries, since a droid will not last long playing music like this
we need some way to specify a droid to do a /flourish ... the /bandflourish makes everyone in the group do the same flourish and doesn't allow others to get music xp, so this is undesirable
novice entertainers can use the droid... only novice musician+ and novice dancers+ should be able to use it - imho
