Bad idea of the month: Accidentally sending your Inorganic Survey tool along with a Survey droid.

PS

Please don't tell me you did that. /shudder

Respectfully,

Last time I checked, you can't associate the tool with the Droid.

The IPS droids are not completey pointless....I use them to determine if a resource is still available when I have harvesters on a remote planet....swgcraft.com is often late, sometimes extremely late in posting when resources become unavailable....and I hate leaving harvesters up 4 days doing nothing but wasting maintenance credits...so then the interplanetary survey droids can sure save travel credits and maintenance credits....

that being said I do rely heavily on swgcraft.com to find new resources : )

One major point is, that even for checking spawns, the ISD is less useful now that "free" travel comes to us via JtL. The only advantage to them now is time and the ability to multi task.

With JtL just a click away, Interplanetary Survey Droid have depreciated in value. I'm in the midst of putting together a suggested DE Revamp post atm, which also addresses updating ISDs, so that they are much more attractive toa broaderuser base. Basically it would go something like this..

  • Decrease the wait timer to 10 - 25 minutes

  • Remove the need to use a Survey Tool

  • Include all Inorganic Resources (basic survey)

  • Master Artisan gains the addition of resource qualities, for all Inorganic resources (complete survey)

  • 0040 Scout, or Novice Scout, gains the ability to survey for Organic Resources (basic survey)

  • Master Scout gains the addition of resource qualities for all Organic resources (complete survey)

To help cut down on people from simply using the /mailsave command to update SWGCraft.com, I also make the suggestion that the information be sent to the Datapad, as a display only file.

To balance out removing the Survey tool, and adding a bit of 'chance' to the process, you can either send the ISD off to survey, and hope that it returns (1/2 of the time for the basic survey and 1/4of the time for the complete survey or pay an Intergalactic Survey fee, that will always succeed.

Of course, these are just my suggestions to the community at this point and would take a little bit of work to move along, but I think that such changeswould potentially help the ISDs become a lot more valuable.

Some good ideas. I like the "intergalactic survey fee" one. Gives the Devs another credit drain.
Changing the timer is a little iffy IMHO. Most DE's should be able to get their ISD's close to or under 20mins right now anyway. Lowering the times, i think, would take away one of the few advantages of(and desires for)becoming a 12pt DE.
Although I'm shooting myself in the foot for recommending this, how about attaching the "chance" return percentages to the 4 blocks of surveying for artisan? Just a thought.
Otherwise a very good idea(s).........some one should make you our corrispodant.................

I've taken to useing the ISD's because swgcraft on my server doesn't have many ppl looking after it. So i send em out to 4 planets that i barely travel too, do my normal thing for 45 mins, and then see if I need to take a trip to one of those 5 planets to check out a new resource. HUGE timesaver, for in game, andfor adding the resources to swgcraft.
