We have a total of 5 consumable products:
1) Droid repair kits
2) Seeker Droids (Bounty Hunter Only)
3) Arakyd Probe Droids (Bounty Hunter Only)
4) Interplanetary Survey droids (Artisan only)
5) Droids that detonate themselves (Smuggler and Bounty Hunter only)
Lifted that bit from 'getting to know you thread'
I am a master artisan and master architect, so I go through more ore and metal in one crafting session, than some careers (weaponsmith) go through to grind to master. as a result I need good sites for harvetsers. so I got a question - what is the interplanetary survey droid?
Follow up questions: How many can I buy? how do they work? are there any DE's on Scylla that make them?

The interplanetary survey droid is a droid that basically gives you the information you get from using X(mineral, chemical, wind, etc...) survey tooland sends it back to you in an email. It can do this for any planet. Granted it takes some time for the droid to do that but you get multiple charges off of the same droid. Also, theyuse up a single survey tool everytime you senda droid off, so making some of those is crucial if you're going to do this alot. I think they're pretty usefull if you need to check on resource shifts on faraway planets and want to keep stocking your vendor, or chatiing with people in town, or whatever. You can buy as many as you can carry in your inventory.

I don't think they're what you think they are. They can be sent to different planets and report back on the names/types of resources present on that planet. It is very useful for people looking for that specific resource or that don't want to go to all different planets to check on resource shifts, but it won't help you in finding higher concentrations.

well I just spent 20k this morning flying aorund the planets trying to find a sodding Steel spawn (how much is it to go to endor?) in the end I never found one cos I kept getting killed as I stepped of the shuttle (pesky faction points)
so these things would have saved me the 1500 wounds and 300 BF plus the wasted time that I could have spent crafting. How much did you say they were again?

for price you'll have to talk to a DE on your server, as it varies widely by server.

I would also consider the Unprogrammed Chip thingy a consumable. Granted one can last you your whole life as a pilot. But once you put one into the FC or Astromech, you have to delete it, no moving it back to your datapad.
I for one will be selling them as a consumable.

Oh, and I should add this (not editing my prev post to preserve the clicky).
Here is what a survey droid does.
When you open up your survey tool (BEFORE you click a resource and click survey), you see a list on the right for the different resources on the planet of that type.
THAT is what a survey droid does. It e-mails you that list (nothing more) for whatever planet you send it to.
It should also be noted, that while survey droids have multiple charges... they consume a survey tool of whichever type with each use. If for example, you want to survey for Mineral, Chemical, and Gas on Dathomir, Yavin 4, and Endor.... you would use up (1 Mineral, 1 Chemical, 1 Gas) survey devicefor each planet, for a total of 9 tools consumed (3 of each... yes, they are consumed and disappear from your inventory) and 9 charges off the droids. You need to use and lose those tools to use the droids, and there is no way around that.
As far as cost goes, we can discuss that ingame after I see how many charges I can get onthose droids with the resources I have. I can also sell you the survey tools crated if you desire, but that will take longer due to JTL preparation.
Just drop an e-mail to Snoosnoo

The survey droids are completely pointless thanks to www.swgcraft.com
It has a current resource database that not only posts the names but also the stats of the resouces for all servers/planets.

Not necessarily. You have to rely on other players to provide accurate, current info to swgcraft. Some of the less-populated servers or the less-traveled planets tend to get left out.

Bad idea of the month: Accidentally sending your Inorganic Survey tool along with a Survey droid.
