Even having some more more beep tones from the R series droids - and when they pass each other, they could beep back and forth (catch up on the follies of their owners...)

My guild leader has a pre-patch Probot with a personality chip in it... when he sends it into battle, it sometimes says things like "We're all going to die!" or "This is hopeless." Quite amusing.

That's weird. Something must have changed in that regard then because when I first started playing after launch I encountered someone with a worshipful medical droid. It was a lot of fun even though it only repeated like 4 phrases maybe. I had no money at the time but it made me want to get a little tin companion of my own.
