Thread: Who would like to see the Personality Chips be more immersive ??

I for one would sure appreciate having the talkie droids say things spontaneously more often. I have heard from a friend that his surgical droid seems to talk a lot in combat, but once out of the frying pan, they shut up.

How about adding in more random speech to these guys? More spontaneous remarks so we actually feel like we have a sentient companion instead of just a following drone. Make them a chatter box so we get sick of them and have to store them to get them to shut up.

I think having the droids act more alive would go a long way in making the game more immersive. It may not be on the hot list of things to fix, but it sure would be nicer to have someone talking to you while your going through the boring grind of cranking out droids or whatever else you may be doing.

How hard is it to add in new stimuli to make the droids talk more? Is this something hard to do or add in ? I understand with all the different types of chips, it would take time to add in new speech, but how about some generic canned speech to all talking droids just so something new gets into the mix ?

Some suggestions:

When entering your declared residence..."I should really clean up this clutter. Does a Womprat live here?" or "You really should pick up after yourself Sir. My work is never done."

Random ramblings..."I could really use an oil bath. The sand and dirt is really beginning to affect my joints." or "You really should get out more." or "I was talking to another 3PO unit and his owner gives him the high quality lubricating oil"

There certainly isn't enough "stimuli" to get these guys to talk. They need to talk more frequently, say more interesting things, and interact more with folks.

I think that would be great.

Some possibilities:

  • If a rebel owned a droid, and saw the imp NPC's, it could say, "Uh, oh, sir, better watch out"

  • Or, if it was an imp owned droid, in the same cricumstances, it could say "We should report in"

  • If you arrive at the shuttle port right after the shuttle takes off, your 3P0 could say, "I could have a talk with the ticket colelctor, sir"

  • Whenever the droid hears l337 5p33k, it could say something like "Oh, my, sir, I am fluent in over 7 million languages, but I don't know that one"

  • When you enter a cantina, it could say, "I am not sure I am allowed in there"

  • When a medical droid is being used to heal someone with really bad wounds, it could say, "Wow, what a mess. This guy should learn to fight"

Just a few ideas...

The talkie droids should be able to tell you when they are getting low on battery juice as well.

"Sir, I am afraid my ability to serve you is going to diminish shortly unless I......*low power*"

Aye, I would love to see talkie droids talk a lot more, even if it's just random quips from time to time. And add more R-unit beeps. The same 4 or 5 get old.

Maybe when you attack someone, your protocol droid says "oh, dear!" or "I don't know about you, but I'm heading for cover!" Those kinds of things would be really Star Warsy.

Sketh, I am starting to like you more and more. You really have some cool ideas, I like all of the talkie droid ideas, AND the MSE droids, or other chirpy droids mocking the owners as the pass by. Seriously cool. Which thread are we using for utility droid ideas? I have ideas for resource probe droids, and repair droids, but I am not sure where to put them so they will be seen!

Love it. I think a lot of 'factioned' droid AI and personality stuff should be happening like this.

  • Or, if it was an imp owned droid, in the same cricumstances, it could say "We should report in"

Right on...or...."Should I request reinforcements, Sir?"

  • If you arrive at the shuttle port right after the shuttle takes off, your 3P0 could say, "I could have a talk with the ticket colelctor, sir"

Yea...this is a perfect example of how this should be. Your droid and NPC droids should try to 'interact' in this fashion.

  • Whenever the droid hears l337 5p33k, it could say something like "Oh, my, sir, I am fluent in over 7 million languages, but I don't know that one"

    Hehehehe...yea, that'll happen.

  • When you enter a cantina, it could say, "I am not sure I am allowed in there"

You can take a droid into a cantina, you just can't heal wounds with it there. That's a big difference.

I'd suggest something more like...."Are you sure we are allowed in this establishment, Sir?" or...

"Shall I order a drink from the bar for you, Sir?"

On a similar note: I like the 'waitress' droid (sorry, no model number) from Episode 2, when Obi-Wan goes to visit Dex. I think that would be an AWESOME droid chassis to add as an Entertainer 'utility' droid. If Personality chips allowed for your droid to interact with the 'waitress' in a cool, immersive way that'd be........boss.

  • When a medical droid is being used to heal someone with really bad wounds, it could say, "Wow, what a mess. This guy should learn to fight"

What are you using, the "Denegration Personality Chip?". I'm sure the droid would have to be a bit nicer.

    How about...

"Just relax, Sir/Madam, I'll get you fixed up as soon as my servos allow."

    or

"Your wounds are quite substantial but I'm sure my installed medical rating can get you back to normal soon."

Just a few ideas...

Heh heh... this is an Episode IV reference, where R2 and 3P0 weren't allowed in the cantina

I'd suggest something more like...."Are you sure we are allowed in this establishment, Sir?" or...

"Shall I order a drink from the bar for you, Sir?"

Though, these are good ideas too
