Balance is in the eye of the beholder. I dont know what the ratio of 'pure crafters' there are in DE. But you aint everybody baby.

Balance does mean combat.

There is that the truth now ? Balance means many things. I know from experience you wont change. I dont understand how you are threatened by adventuring DE brethren. But you think you are.

I think most DEs Do, want powerfull combat droids. That They, (themselves) can use. I welcome a poll of discovery, on the issue. But in any case you have driven away adventurures so far to the exptent you have frustrated DE combat abilities.

In any case whatever your belief. Do not expect us to accept your limited view of balance just cause you say so.

certainly a better answer than DH.

Agreed.... I'll lend my support to anything as long as it will avert the DH class.

But If I had a way to keep the things i think are important for my 'role' (DE in this case) and quest and combat too. Then I would be playing the game, instead of haunting the boards.

Combat droids are the answer for DE needs to adventure. And they can be an answer for other crafters as well.

In my guild and city, there is quite a turnover of players leaving. Of the ones that I am aware of thier reasons for leaving. Half of them would have stayed if they had, Multiple char slots, or, more skillpoints, or, the ability to have both a noncombat 'role' and a competitive combat ability. Of those that stay, more have multiple accounts. I havnt tallied it. But it looks like SOE loses more Biz this way than they get from multiple account players. And the players they lose tend to be more casuals who would be giving a better money/server time ratio.

That's not a very compelling argument. "People are quitting cuz they can't be gods among men. They want to be able to do everything in the game and can't so they quit. Devs need to fix this." No, people need to find a niche and stick to it. You come off like you're saying you're about to quit the game cuz you are bored as a DE. Then stop being a DE. Yes, that is being stubborn. If not fighting or not-doing content related quests is causing you to consider quitting, you seriously need to change professions. You can't have everything. And the way the skill system works, it does allow for profession swapping with minimal penalty. If you master a profession then drop it cuz of holo or whatveer, yeah if you wanna go back you gotta start from scratch. if you master, then actually play the prof, you can amass enough XP to prolly get 1/4 to 1/2 way back up to mastery. So it is totally within the realm of possibility to do DE for a month or 2, then combat, then rinse and repeat. Sounds like too many people just want everything.

Also, I am a Master Droid Engineer, Master Artisan, and half way to Master Carbineer. I make awesome droids all with the best modules, and I can hold my own in a fight and do almost any quest I want, maybe with a buff or help from a few guild mates. I just don't see the problem you are describing.

So your saying you should be able to build and sell droids to everyone AND be able to stand toe to toe with a Bounty Hunter or Commando without putting points into a combat skill??

Hahaha, well, duh of course not. Just as the commando can't beat me in an MSE grind contest. I never said I would be total uber. But I do quests alot, go on hunts with friends and guildmates. That guy made it sound like it was one or the other. I make excellent droids AND still have plenty of fun fighting and enjoying all the content there is.

No...probots we make, they are used by whoever...big difference between that and me making some super droideka thing and only people in my crafting profession can use it. The issue is that in this case, we'd have to have something like with combat medics, where you have to go up some sort of combat support ability to get the profession on top of engineering IV, for it to make sense compared to other professions in the game. You're asking that we be a weaponsmith who can use a T21 too just by virtue of making the thing...now lets be honest, in real life, if you can make a gun (design it etc) you can probably shoot the thing just fine. But that isn't SWG...and in terms of SWG professions, you can't just make something and use it. It keeps classes dependent upon each other.

To add a combat tree to DE means we need to look like a combat class, not just pure engineering. Yes, engineers are needed in combat. They fix things as they break and handle calculations. But lord knows they aren't the guys on the front line shooting the rifle they make repairs to....

Well My opinion on that is that everyone should be able to use all droids, and YES YES I know that will never happen, but I still think that a Combat Engineer with Droids is plausible. Whatever.....Im coonfused. Why? I dunno, just am.

Kollos and Jenden,

Your joking, right? I mean you guys are really stretching and digging to justify the pure crafter position that doesn't allow the profession to be played any way but your way. As far as balance, umm, have you guys even gotten out of your shops to see what a Master TKA, Master Fenser, or Master Commando can do? Obviously not from your post. Even with Droideka, I seriously doubt any of us could take down a Master Commando. In fact, I doubt any of us would last 10 seconds.

Sorry. But I have to dismiss your statements. Your balance objection has no basis in reality. Not so long as there are professions that can put the proposed hybrid DE down for a dirt nap faster than you can blink your eye.

Feel free to dismiss our statements, that is certainly your right. I'm not arguing the point with you - I'm simply explaining to you why what you want isn't going to happen. The Devs have already said this also, but apparently you're not willing to listen to them either.

Until you get past the mistaken notion that balance only applies to combat, you will be continually frustrated.

A Master Carbineer can take a Master Commando 2 fights out of 5. A Fencer 3 out of 5. I've seen it done. As for the balance issue that Kollos brings up... he's right.

How much crafting can a Carbineer, TKM, Fencer, Pistoleer, etcdo? None.

Can a CH make food for his pet? No

Not unless they pick up some artisan, medic or scout skills.

Or...

Can a weaponsmith use his/her best weapons? Not without spending skill points on combat profession.

That's the balance he's talking about and he is right. By making DE a hybrid class you run the risk of making it to powerful in the veign that it can be completely self sufficient. That unbalances the economy, gameplay, and eventually combat.

That's the problem.

The fact of the matter Kollos is that devs found making us a combat hybrid acceptable, and that due to our reluctance at the time it was set aside. Since the devs suggested the idea, its not unreasonable to think they would go for it, and just like a second look is being made at DH, it probably makes sense to take a second look here.

Personally I wouldnt mind, it would be nice to be able to take part in the majority of the game. certainly a better answer than DH.

The fact of the matter is that the Devs considered that a long time ago, and since then they have made enough other changes to the game that it is no longer feasible. Theyhave said so multiple times. There will be no new combat droids introduced with CL greater than 10 unless there is a NEW skill point expenditure involved. Rolling new combat droids into a hybrid DE profession DOES NOT accomplish a new skill point expenditure, and is therefore not going to happen.

Well, why do we have to control the droid like it doesn't have a brain? Why cannot the combat droid I buy think on his own. Do I need to control him and say "attack that guy" "stay" "come back". Maybe it should just follow me around on its own. When I get into combat, it might take a second or two to say, "my master is under attack"... few more seconds "where is threat"... "scan threat"..."eliminate threat (or) threat will compromise my functionality, standing down". The droid can just be an NPC that will help us and benefit us, but not be just a puppet that we completely control. Luke and han and all them sure couldn't completely control R2 or 3PO...
