Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: I caved... I just couldn't do it...
My character on Bria is a 4-4-3-3 Merchant / 1-1-1-2 Droid Engineer with Master Artisan.
With the exception of one (1) mission when I first started, I have not pursued missions at all.
I currently have just over...100k. This after 7 weeks of being a Droid Engineer (reaching that point) and opening a shop. I have been hovering around that mark all month, this month being my highest sales ever. I was given the deed to the small shop as a gift, all my armor, and my weapons, all of them still in very high condition. These are the originals, tells you how much involved I am in combat. My vendors are ALWAYS stocked with every combination of droid possible at this level. I even have 1 vendor with 60 sets of seeker droids on it.
100k? That's it?
I knew a weaponsrafter that, after 2 weeks since release, had over 4 million credits.
What does...'balance' mean?
What does...'incompetent' mean?
Yes, any ideas for selling would be helpful. Please share ![]()
I also produce alot of other 'engineering' items - harvesters, survey tools, crafting tools, trying to get some crafting stations to sell.
I plaster the bazaar with reasonably priced products which sell pretty well and put a blurb with my waypoint in all product descriptions.
I send thank you mails to everyone who purchases anything from the bazaar with my waypoint and info.
I'm located right between Bestine, Mos Eisley, and Anchorhead so I'm "easy to get to from everywhere".
I keep my (non-NPC) vendor stocked with as much stuff as I can.
But I usually only get a few sales a week - not enough to pay for everything.
So I run Artisan missions to support myself. And now they've "balanced" payouts again so it's getting even harder......
Please share any success stories anyone has. How do you do it?
Come to my website and submit an order!
i feel your pain, i support a novice apprentice DE via giving him jobs and little orders, but novice DE's dont really have a product to sell
i had to run missions for cash for a while until probots really. after that i could support my DE habit without missions. but im trying to curb that nasty-nessoff my apprentice.
So far, I haven't seen anyone mention the Merchant skill Advertising III yet... You can have a store IN Bestine and Anchorhead, it won't do any good if noone can find it!
The easiest way to make sales (from my experience) is to have a store close to a major city, and have your vendor's Planetary Advertising turned on (Bear in mind, it's a bit screwed, so you have to turn advertising on every day.)
Au-Ru Blasterkin - Master Droid Engineer
I just dropped all of my Advertising skills last night, becasue there really aren't enough people that know where to find the Advertising. I was telling about 10 people per day where to look and each of those 10 people's reaction was 'Wow, I didn't even know this was here.'
I tried a test to see if the skill helped me out any with sales....what I did was turned on the Advertising for a few days one week right after servers restarted and made a tracking of my sales. The following week, I didn't turn on the Advertising at all. Over all, there was no change in sales. I actually had 2 days of sales that were better without the Advertising on. /shrug
I'm just about to start my DE journey, but I learned enough by reading these message boards to know that it being a novice DE would probably not pay the bills. Instead, I worked up most of the Architect trees first. I'm currently at 3,3,4,1 , and I am able to make enough money to run my harvesters fairly easily. I also have been able to build up my own inventory of harvesters so that I can harvest all of the steel and fiberplast I will need for DE grinding myself. (MUCH cheaper than the 3+ credits per unit on the bazaar.) It took me about a week of Architect grinding to be able to craft the big sellers, the fusion generators and the heavy mineral harvesters, but it was well worth it, and I would do it exactly the same way again if I had to start over. My personal inventory is 2 fusions, 5 heavy minerals, one heavy chemical, about 10-12 medium minerals, and a bunch of the personal harvesters in all the assorted types. I also have just under 400k in the bank, and about 300k in mineral resources. The way I look at it, the Architect stuff is the job that will allow me to pay for, and enjoy, my Droid hobby, without worrying about how the he** I'm gonna sell thesefifty-'leven mouse droids. =)

MIsfit Mining Equipment and Resources
I barely have to leave town.
In short, mine stuff and sell it cheaper than most everyone else for money, you'll do fine.
All but a Master DE now (half way through the last box) and I've been making droid sales since 1,0,0,3. Barely done any grinding since (only time was to get finish off a level of refinement so I could get the extra experimentation point when the customisation tools came out).
Selling droids is a matter of getting known. Hang out in all the places that people buy droids - near starports (particularly ones with BH terminals), med centers and cantinas. Get Adv III so you can put a vendor on the map and stock it with BH droids. Live as close as possible to a major city too. BHs won't travel to buy droids, but if it's convenient and can run to your vendor while waiting for a shuttle, they will. I sell about 1-200 crates of BH droids a week this way, simply because I live so close to Tyrena. That's dropped from the 3-400 crates a week when seekers actually consumed charges at Invest III.
The rest of my money comes from other areas like Master Artisan. You've got the skills there, use it. Make powerups. Make sure they're really good quality and you'll have endless repeat business. There's no point having MA if you don't milk it for all its worth. Sell components to Architects, powerups to combat types, droid batteries to all your customers. I typically make 200K a night when I'm in Droid Sales Mode (sometimes I have nights off and go do stuff like faction missions or badge quests). Most of that gets ploughed back into resource purchases for the rare stuff - particularly really high OQ/CD materials. Simply, there is plenty of ways to make money as a low-ish level DE. Anything below BP III and you're fairly screwed though, however, you can do droid customisation to help fill the coffers now.
Making cash as a novice droid engineer is almost impossible, but now as a master droid engineer i have been able to make 500-600k a week profit,i do not run a single harvester and buy every single mineral i need for making droids. The key to making a profit as a droid engineer is to already have a huge inventory available for the customer to choose from and also location. I've never spent much time shouting in cities to get customers, all i have ever done is wear my master de title and answer questions and e-mail waypoints whenever i have heard people talking about droids. I have also spent quite a bit of cash helping a weaponsmith friend power completely from novice to master along with getting master armorsmith on my backup character. Now since all these recent bugs/changes have completely screwed up my inventory i am surrendering every droid skill i have. Was a good profession to be in, my only problem with it has been explaining to every single customer what a droid can and cant do... It's sort of amazing what people think droids are capable of, and actually 95% of the ideas ive seen come across my screen i would love to see implemented, however... i dont think the dev's have the capabilities and knowledge to make them work properly... We've all seen that in the droid profession.
