Thread: question about droids from a non-DE

Technically, you could have every single possible module in an MSE, which only takes one module without using the exploit.I don't agree with this. If cluster modules were only meant for cluster slots, then why not just create the droid schematic with more regular slots?
I don't think it's an exploit.
By that logic, why have any subcomponents at all?
Oh, this part's for Klom...
Read the description you say... I've read it, and will even post it here with an explanation.
"This is an array that can fit a variety of droid sockets."
This can be interpreted two ways due to the wording. The first one (yours) isthat thecluster fits into multiple sockets. The second one (everyone else's) is that the multiple sockets fit into the cluster. Given the nature of the cluster, having multiple sockets for modules, the second interpretation makes a little more sense than yours.
Clusters are only supposed to be used in in ADV R2, R3 and ADV R3. By design this gives those droids a purpose - they can hold a lot more than other models.
Bug 1 - You can put a cluster in *any* Module slot. I haven't done this since I worry when it gets fixed droids made this way will be broken.
Bug 2 - You can put clusters inside clusters essentially putting every possible module in an 1-socket MSE droid. This borders on exploit and I haven't done this for the same reason.
Bug 3 - Two lower level modules can stack up to the maximum. Putting in two Item 4 modules makes the equivalent of Item 6, two Armor 4 is the equivalent of Armor 6, etc. People will debate whether this is a bug or not. I've done this, but without abusing the above-mentioned bugs with clusters. Many droids have two armor slots, and the resources for Armor 6 have been missing from my server for a while, so I put in two Armor 4. Worst case scenario if this gets fixed someone complains that their droids armor level just dropped and I replace it. But no one uses droids for combat anyway... =)
It's bad enough there's little to differentiate droids other than the number of modules they can hold - but the cluster "bugs/exploits" make it truly ridiculous.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If Medical modules and Item Storage modules were not ment to be stacked, why is there code written for it? In order for 2level 4medical modules to be the equivelent of 1 Level 6, there would have to be code written in the game some where that states( x modules rating + x modules rating = x rating). It just doesn't magically happen. If it were a case of a code error that took the total rating of all modules installed, then wouldn't 2 level 1 modules equal 110 instead. The same applies to all of the modules stacking. The game code was written to allow it to happen and even has set guide lines to follow.
As to module cluster use in non-clustered droids, I agree that this is one the bugs that the DEVs have known about and have allowed to function, so that DEs can make a droid more useful in the eyes of the customer. They know that the DE profession is not functioning as it should, with droids that have a specific purpose, so they allow this 'exploit' as so many wish to call it.
As to those that Cry Nerf, in regards to what will happen to a droid built with stacked modules or clustered modules on non-cluster droids, I havesomething to askyou....... Did the Pre-Nerf Probots change in any way after the Nerf was set down? Have any changes to droid usage changed on droid built before a patch. I'm not talking about suddenly not being able to retrive a droid or creature nested inside a Data module, I'm taking about the actual modules themselves. The DEVs are going to suddenly pull 'the magic carpet' out from under many DEs by making droids made in this manner useless. That would go against everything that the DEVs have been working towards in a multi-leveled economy.
Oh ya, while I'm on my soap box......Multiple crafting stations in a single droid was never ment to work. It was intentionally made this way, or haven't you noticed that they cancel out the effects of private crafting stations as well. Do you really think it would be a good idea to allow more than one crafting station in a singel droid? If this were the case, why would anyone ever need to buy more than one droid? Use common sense here people.
/endRant
Whether it's an exploit or not, your droid will probably work forever even if they fix this bug, as the bug fix I am sure would only affect new droids created.
You CAN have a food/chem station, medical 110, and best armor in an advanced probot _without_ using this exploit/bug. It just takes a medical module level 6, and 1 armor level 6 or 2 armor leve 4's.
I personally don't use this exploit/bug because, to be honest, there aren't that many useful droid modules to use to fill up more than about 3 slots anyway!

I stand corrected on the text. I would stillsay that it could go either way. But I based that on the fact that it works and has worked since dirt was new. But based on other bugs/exploits that isn't proof of anything either.
a probot with
max armour
110 medical
a craft station(structure)
a repair module
and item storage (10)
the DE that made it told me this was achieved by the use of clusters. and said that by giving this list to a DE on another server where i've taken up other skills i could have the exact same droid with a food/chem station instead of structure.
On my new server(starsider) i was informed by the fist DE i spoke with that creating droids with clusters was exploit and he wouldn't make it.
now my question is, is this an exploit? You may wonder why i dont ask another DE, well i have. i've been ignored by 3 masters and another 2 were just barely novices who couldn't make all the parts. The original DE i spoke with came highly recommended by many friends and my PA. And i am quite against the use of exploits.
so could some one please enlighten me?

Since there's no way to know with any degree of certainty, whether the General Droid Module Cluster Socket was meant to be used in any general socket harness, the issue can't be resolved. However, the idea quoted above is probably correct. Finished products probably don't have a recollection of 'how' they were created. The finished Advanced R4 doesn't know that he has 3 general module harnesses, one of which had a Gener Droid Module Cluster Socket installed. Heis probably just stored withhis medical rating, his storage rating, his repair rating, and an indication for a crafting station.
We've got to make our best guess on this, and I think there's a tremendous probability that the General Droid Module Cluster Socket was meant to be used in ANY harness. I'm not trying to screw customers around, or anything, and if any customer ever has a problem with his droid, I'll accommodate him in some way, but to me, it's obviously being used the way it was meant to be used.
>>>I think that's part of the problem - the cluster bug *hurts* the profession. Why get a few different droids when you can cram every module into one and never need another? =)
Now THIS, I agree with. There shouldn't be any General Droid Module Cluster Socket.
As mentioned before, how can this be an "exploit" when there are caps on functionality and multiple crafting modules don't play well together. Yes, you can put every module in an MSE droid, but to what effect?
Was it intended? Possibly not. Is anyone gaining unfair advantage by using it? Not really. This classifies it as a bug rather than an exploit in my book.
Regarding the argument that it isn't "logical" to put multiple modules in because of size concerns. Whoa Nelly. Can we talk about the logic of carrying several hundred thousand units of steel in our backpacks? How about the logic of carrying a house in our pockets? Or what about the logic of carrying a rancor in a PDA?

LMAO, very true
For that matter how can I fit a few thousand books worth of information in my little hard drive and download music at the same time?
