I agree. Location, Location, Location!

I moved to Coronet, (on the beach), about 3 weeks ago, and I've been selling 50K - 100K per day. it's amazing.

The best sellers are BH droids, and R units with Medical Modules and Food Crafting Stations. C3PO also sells well, even though I can't load him up with anything.

I'm not a droid engineer, but I feel for you. I just bought 2 droids a couple of days ago and I was happy and disappoint at the same time.

I can only hope things will get better for droids and for the game as a whole.

Which leads me to think what the developers said about loot from a mission or quest. They don't want to put the crafters out of business.

Interesting, they must have not thought of Droid Engineers as crafters since there's not much of a business. Here's what they should add if possible to help the "Droid Business model".

- Give Droid Engineers special schematics to make high charged batteries only they can make. Or a small fusion generator type unit they can use, but has a decay life on it. (Like when Luke plugged in R2 on Dagoba)

- Have droids upgradeable. Where they can add parts are replace parts with better parts on droids but only by a Droid Engineer.

- Have Droid parts wear out. Where they are crippled, like the crafting station doesn't work. They can't walk or move. And it can only be fixed by a Droid Engineer.

Well, some of these ideas may have been posted already, but I'm not going to search the forum for them. Sorry if they have been hashed out already.

Well, personally I'm not a DE to make loads of cash. If I wanted loads of cash I'd be a Weaponsmith or Armorsmith or just do missions. Having millions of virtual credits doesn't do much for me. =)

I'm also not a salesman, or at least not a very good one. I'm content to sell a few droids here and there to friends and allegiance members, by word of mouth, or to people that randomly happen to find my shop and break even or make a small profit. There are a few DEs on my server that aggressively market their droids, have multiple shop locations around heavily travelled parts of the galaxy, advertise on the forums, even havewebsites. I'm sure they do very well and that's cool but that's not really my thing.

I'm a Droid Engineer because I think droids are pretty cool and fun to make. It's was fun to figure out how they're put together and fun to see them come to life. I'm an engineer dammit, not a businessman. Broken as the profession is, it's still fun. =)

I like having my shop in my house near my PA with my friends. =)

I enjoy talking to people in-game about droids. I'm brutally honest about the state of the profession. They're very useful to some people in some situations, yes, but completely useless to most people. I don't try to sell, but I don't trash talk droids either, I just answer questions honestly. Most of the time people usually tell me they hope DE gets fixed because they'd love more useful droids. =)

I'm not complaining I can't make a fortune selling droids, or that I have to do other things to augment my income. It's how I choose to play the game. I'd rather sell resources to make extra money until droids are a bit more marketable than they currently are.

Then I'll make billions of credits and take over the world bwahahaha!

Or not... =)

hmmm it helps to sell a variety of stuff, when i started carrying one at least of every droid with every possible module i doubled my sales, if you stock is small your sales may be too.....most important try different combinations of droids to see what is your big seller. oh and price them higher than 10 to 1.

I know alot of BH who just grind faction missions for cash and FP and then turn over the FP to exp.Not hard to do heck i can get 100fp a hour and im not a master in tka yet.If they get the other 4 lines maxed before doing invetigate line it prob takes them a few days to master like this and they never have to spend a dime to travel or buy droids.

I believe you were allowed to trade the FP for investigation xp in beta, but it's not allowed anymore.

Oddly enough, it's true about the mouse droids.

About three weeks ago someone bought FOUR of them from me, with 10 item storage slots each, for 5K a piece.

Of course, that does not compare to selling one advanced R2 unit, and I sold two of those lastnight.

Here is how I make money as a DE:

First, I built up a business selling super-high-quality weapon powerups. I created the brand 'Powerups by Rho',lucked into some really high-quality (999 OQ) steel early in the game, ran missions to sustain multiple harvesters, and after sustaining a business for months, I still have a few thousand units left, along with more than enough high-OQ chemical to keep me in powerups for a long time yet. This business began on the bazaar, and once I had enough money I got a small house and opened my own vendor, slowly making my way to Master Artisan, since I knew I'd need that skill for my future.

Then I worked on my DE skills via a fairly standard path, making MSE droids until I was sick of them, and then Advanced Droid Frame Units. As soon as I was able to make reasonably functional droids, I beganoffering them on a new vendor I created, and renamed my shop to 'Powerups by Rho plus Droids'. This got me a bit of business, but not much, and I continued to rely on my powerup sales for a considerable amount of time.

Once I hit about 3/3/0/4, I found that I was able to make some truly useful machines, and at 4/3/2/4 I stopped grinding entirely, and now rely entirely on sales. I can make advanced R2 units with 110% medical, food/chemical crafting stations, AND ten item storage slots, all without exploits or tricks of any sort. Simple module stacking does it, and these droids sell for a good price. I renamed my shop again, calling it 'Droids by Rho plus powerups', to indicate my new primary focus.

Lately, I've been making more and more ADV-model chassis which I keep on display around my shop. As I learn refinement techniques, Iadd more colors, and it's never a waste, as these become the basis for my custom-crafted droids. I prefer to custom-craft, as this gives my customer precisely what they want, and I don't run the risk that some combo I've chose won't sell from the vendor. I do keep a few standard configurations on the vendor, and they DO sell, but I definitely sell more droids as a consequence of a /tell and an extended conversation than any other way.

Most people initiate by wanting to 'ask a question about droids'. By being honest, patient and polite with them, half turn into sales within 10 minutes, and at least half of the rest wind up buying a few days later.

My next trick is creating a series of macros so I can stop typing so VERY much in response to the FAQs I get from potential customers.

Taking a well-deserved vacation from his successful Droid Engineering business, Master Rho can be found puttering around the galaxy.
