Thread: Grinding DE XP questions...
You are correct about Refinement...I made a mistake thinking there was Assembly in that tree (just looked and realized there wasn't any)...so that will probably be my last tree to accomplish...
And I actually have considered, for the time being, making chassis to sell for decorative purposes and xp...I've had requests for them and have seen posts stating they can sell for around 10K...Depending on the xp levels generated this could be a happy balance of xp vs. resources and the revenue it can create.
Thanks again for the advice...I will think about it...
I tend to be an optimist though...as you can see from my signature...I'm a Master Commando with one of my main characters...this is not because what they can currently do (lord knows commando is a very broken profession) but because of what I see them eventually being able to do...even with all the let downs, I still try to keep the faith...
That's the same reason I currently plan on going all the way up to Master DE...not because of what's happening now, but because of what may happen down the road when and if DE get's some much deserved love...
If you read the Commando forums you see I am a strong supporter there...Currently in Commando you are as powerful as a Master Commando (destructive capabilities) at just 0|0|4|0 so dabbling is a big thing...I still choose to be a Master...And as a Master I continue to fight to get fixes and see the Master class made worthwhile...I hope to do the same thingall the way up toMaster DE...to help support fixes that will see Master DE made worthwhile as well as other needed fixes at that level and below...![]()
I completely and utterly understand your point of view.
Indeed, to me this is one of the downfalls of the profession, that mastery does NOT provide tangible benefits.
Oh goody, I get to sum stuff up (and disagree with everything
)
Master DE has several benefits, both tangible and intangible. The most obvious benefits are the L6 modules and the R3 Adv droid. The R3 Adv is the only droid that can hold six modules in it, so it can take all four crafting stations and the two useable modules, the Medical and Inventory modules. This was one of my biggest sellers even though at 80-90k, it was twice as expensive as any other droid model I offered. However, youcan't build either the R3 or the L6 modules unless you're a master.
Intangibly,Master Droid Engineerholds a lot more prestige than simply Droid Designer orExpert Droid Engineer. Those out there that need droids show a lot of respect (and maybe a little pity)to masters, as they feel this is one of the broken professions and as such one of the toughest. Also, by stepping up to the ranks of master droid engineer it goes a long way in showing your determination and your desire to be a droid engineer.
However, if you simply grind your way to master then you get none of the knowledge of the profession, and the minute you say anything wrong or are unable to answer a question about droids then that prestige goes right out the window. And trust me, as a droid engineer you will have to speak, A LOT. Especially the first month of being a master.
I have to say it is almost critical that you build one of every droid type and then some with the different modules in order simply to try them out. Droid Engineer, while broken, is still one of the most amazing professions simply because this profession alone can build such a variety of goods. Armoursmiths have composite, Weaponsmiths have powerhammers and FWG5s (or whatever the new one is, did I hear FWGs were nerfed some time back?), but droid engineers see the full range of their profession used all the time. Seldomly are any two droid orders the same, and you will find yourself building lots of different models. But without knowing firsthand what the models are, what they take module wise, and what they look like, you'll find yourself unable to sell any droids, let alone good ones.
And don't worry about selling droids yet. You probably won't be able to sell them till you are up there, say 4-3-0-4. That's when you get all the modules and the armour to build the droids with. Until then, you have a choice. You can grind your way up, which is amazingly dull. or you can stop here for a few hours, build some different droids, see how they all look and what it takes to build them, then continue your grinding. Then, when you get to each level, just build a new droid with a new module and give it a spin. They take amazingly little materials to build, just time and intelligence.
And if you're really that worried about burning resources, don't be. You will get roughly the same amount of xp per resource count than you would grinding, but this way you get to have fun, see the cool stuff you can do, and get a nice relaxing break for half an hour. And if you're still concerned, thenput the module-demo units into basic MSE droids. Even a newbie starting character with 250 credits can afford the minerals for that.
And as far as selling these inferior droids go, don't. just keep em in your datapad as reminders of how far you came. Perhaps choose one as your sidekick (I have had laserjet, my second everdroid,following me around since I gotblueprints-1) and delete the rest.Same resource cost as grinding with private so no real loss in any way, shape, or form.
Ok, that's enough blabbering from me. Don't even know if this was said in the above posts (so hard to read when most of them just kept agreeing with one another). Carry on mateys.
