Thread: Grinding DE XP questions...

Finally hit 0|0|0|4 last night grinding Mouse Droids...My question is, now that I hit Blue4, is there a better droid item to grind craft for xp then the Mouse Droid? I originally thought the more complex an item, the higher the xp but when I tested the complexity of the Mouse Droid lvl 15 (givesaround 150+ in xp ptsper craft it I believe)vs. another item that is complexity lvl 21 (only gave me 93 xp pts)...the Mouse Droid gave more xp for sure...I'm coming off of combat classes where the higher the creature lvl, the higher the xp so I thought it would be the same...

So my questions are 2 fold...

1) Is there a better item then the Mouse Droid to grind craft for xp?

2) How does the xp system work for DE? Is it based on # of resources or something else? It seems weird that a higher complexity item would give me less xp...

Thanks...

Read the sticky post titled "How to grind your way to Master Droid Engineer." It's right under where you clicked "New Message"

Read more, post less. The answers are there unless you're too lazy to look for em.

Sorry...thought I had read them all as well as the various web sites...missed that part of that one (must have stopped after the macro part...bit tired from grinding allnight...

But it definitely is nice to see that there are friendly people who will jump right in and "one-star" and act rudely to a newbie DE...what a wonderful welcome...

If you're serious about keeping DE, I'd strongly suggest you not grind it out. You will get to master and have no idea what your product can do, or can't do. Once you get a box, play around with your newly-granted schematics, and find out their limits. Grinding to master is the worst favor you can do for yourself, you'll have the title "master" but you'll be ignorant of what your product can and can't do.

The post at the top is missiong some things. Crafting Advanced Droid Frames does give great xp, but in terms of the number of xp per unit of resource used, there are a number of other items just as good as the advanced droid frame. If you don't have the materials for the droid frames, weapon crafting stations give you the same amount of xp per unit of resource used. They use far fewer resources and therefore give you less xp per item, so the cost you more in terms of the time you spend grinding, but they cost you the same in terms of how much the resources are going to cost you.

No reason to one-star somebody for asking a newbie question. That's rude.

Very serious ....This is not a Holo profession for me...And with each box I've achieved I've spent a bit of time crafting some of the newer items...but just general crafting is a slow process for gaining xp...And if I'm going to use my resources I want to be able to make better droids, so I'd rather not waste what I have slowly gaining xp so I can "play around"...I'd rather get up higher to minimize resource waste via critical failures, lack of advanced items, etc...

You're being contradictory here. If you want to eliminate resource waste, DON'T GRIND. Grinding is the biggest waste of resources there is. By making droids, you'll still get the xp, and you'll learn about the profession, and even possibly make a few credits on the way up.

I know it sounds contradictory...but think about it...If I made inferior droids or droid parts, who would buy them? Not only would I have unsold droid components but I also would have gained less xp then I would have just grinding...And if I have less critical failures, how much resources will I save in the future...Soin essence I would throw away resources into something for less xp and risk more critical failures by just "making droids"...

Most of the people already contacting me (unbelievably, see the Novice DE and they already ask for droids) are wanting crafting droids, medical droids and of course combat droids (a bit early of course)...They don't want droid components, or Mouse Droids, etc...and they defintely want the most for their buck...so if they can get better from the Master DE down the street (hypothetical) then why would they buy from me at this point?

If I'm going to "throw away" resources I need to throw them into things that gain me the most xp for my buck instead of items for less xp that I know won't sell...And if I can save money by maximizing my resource usage that is savings I can pass on to my future customers...

Actually, since experimentation doesn't make any real difference in your droids, you might as well use the things to make the best droids you currently can.

Mind you, I think going 0/0/0/4 is a mistake. All that gets you is new chassis, and you can't even take advantage of some of them without gaining the General Droid Socket Module from 3/0/0/0. I say get yourself to 3/3/0/2, and you can make money.

Taking a well-deserved vacation from his successful Droid Engineering business, Master Rho can be found puttering around the galaxy.

You are right Duncje, it is silly to grind all the way to the top without taking the time to figure out how the professions works along the way. But you do reach a point where you've crafted everything you can craft at your current level, your vendor is well stocked, and there's just no point in going any further with "playing" with the schematics that you have.

This is especially true until you get to level 4 modules.

The practice option is there for a reason. Using it to grind to the top without playing the profession on the way is silly. But never grinding at all is silly too, IMO.

Shoot, I reached a point early in my DE career where my inventory, my house, and my bank were full of components and factory crates. What was I supposse to do at that point other than grind? It's wreckless for me to use the vendor for storage of such items. THAT is the reason that the game has database instabilities. I had no choice but to grind frames for practice at that point. It was the only way to get to the point where I could actually use all the components that I had lieing around my house.

It does make sense to take blueprints at least to the seeker droids and possibly to the arakyd's early on so you can sell those. But taking it to 0/0/0/4 only makes sense if you want decorative chassis to be your primary business. But that's water under the bridge for this guy.

Malitevv-

You're right. But he's said all he did was grind MSE's. A little bit of grinding is not a bad thing. I did the grind myself a little bit, while waiting for shuttles and such, but I took time out at each box and fiddled with stuff, and sold a few droids along the way. I did the grind up the experimentation tree, as that doesn't grant any new schematics. But grinding one thing all the way to master won't teach you anything but how to double-click.

I'd say find a happy medium between grinding and crafting. Just making droids will take forever to master whereas on your way up make a few chassis, make a few advanced droid frames (non-practice), test what you can stuff into a droid every time you get new moduleseach level then at 3/0/X/4 make a few droids for sale.

If you do that every level you should feel like you're accomplishing something... you'll learn what you can and can't do as a DE yet won't take you 3 months to master.

Just my take of course, perhaps some purists will take exception to it but I think it's a good compromise.
