Thread: It's been a couple of days...

I have been purposely avoiding building any droids for customers.

Why? Because I have wanted to see what "fell out of the trees" in the days after implementation. Also because I feel an overriding need to provide my customers with operational equipment.. and I was (and still am) unsure if I can actually do that. With mounting evidence on both sides of the "good publish - bad publish" issue, I now feel that I "may" be able to play a part in the building and distribution of "updated" droids.

My sense of "fair play" will always override my greed.

- Account: Master TKA (cancelled)
- Account: Master Doctor (cancelled)
- Account: Smuggler (cancelled)
- Account: Master Chef (cancelled)

Total loss of annual revenue (SOE): ~$715US to ~$900US
- Bad press: Priceless
Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.

Bingo. The customers that I have talked to have indicated that this is pretty much the case. Anyone who has ordered a combat droid from me has done so just to see what the new ones are like - the don't actually expect them to be useful.

I'm still selling a few crafting/utility droids, but the pace has slacked off a bit. That, however, is not necessarily indicative of this last patch because crafting/utility droids seem to sell in cycles anyway. I was about due for a down cycle, so that's probably all that's happening.

There are a couple of semi-nice things in the new patch, the most notable being the ability to call droids/vehicles/pets anywhere. I have made use of this and will now be able to drop Scout and recover a few more skill points because of it. But on the whole, that's about the only truely useful thing for me in the patch.

Oh, Player City garages are cool too. So now my city can spend 20k per week in addition to me spending 1k per day to repair my vehicles. /rollEyes

Stimpacks are basically useless because Droids can't tank any more anyway. It's just as easy to own 3 combat droids and cycle them between fights using the new ability to call droids anywhere as it is to try to heal them during combat.

Reconstruction kits are marginally useful for a Droid Engineer and no one else. When was the last time you actually needed to repair wounds on your own droid? We complained about the issue because the principle was stupid, not because we really needed the ability. It was a symptom of a much greater problem. So naturally SOE fixed the issue the wrong way - what we were really asking for was the ability to call 2 droids at once, not the ability to repair droids that rarely ever get wounded.

Normal modules fit in combat capable slots, but normal clusters do not fit in combat cluster slots. So all those old medical clusters (L6 Medical, L6 Item Storage, Food & Chemical crafting station) can no longer be used in the droids you probably used to use them in. Sure, they can still be used, but that sorta depends on someone ordering a Surgical Droid instead of an R2 or R3. I haven't sold 100 Surgical Droids in my 9-month career, so that run of medical clusters is pretty much wasted.

What's with all the *bleep*ing brains? 8 brains and 2 advanced brains to make an R3? Excuse me? 8 brains to make an advanced Probot? Huh? Next thing you know it's going to require a Droid Brain in order to make an Electronics GP Module. Sheesh.

So my overall impression of patch 7 (not publish 7, PATCH 7) is... meh.

Nice post Kollos.

I sold more than 100 surgs though Heheh

My last month and a half as a DE I basically did factory runs of droids... sold a tonne (around 1000 droids total) in that time period.

I still feel sorry for you DEs. /comfort

Lol, thanks Kollos. I've been looking for something to replace the Jedi quote in my signature.

My guess is that it's a misquote. Some people were concerned that the advanced probot, with it's ability to use 5 modules, would be cheaper and easier to make than the advanced R2, making advanced R2s undesirable.

What has happened however is that the probots have lower HAM, so it sort of balances.

The GOOD :

Combat Modules - while the resources to craft 90% or better are somewhat hard to find and fairly expensive, even 75% modules are nice in a combat droid. Also I agree they stack well and integrate well with other components

Repair Kits / Reconstruction Kits - Finally we have ways of healing and repairing droids on the fly, also these are selling fairly well for me. (Hint: hand out a few B kits whenever you sell a droid, let people try them and they really seem to like them)

Increased HAM for our droids - DUH, if you all need this explained you shouldn't be a DE

Increased interest from the overal community in our products - You'd be amazed how many non-combat droids i sell to people that came looking for combat droids. Surprisingly large numbers of people had no idea that droids could funtion as portable storage, crafting stations etc.

Bug Fixes - Hey we can now expieremnet on 0% aspects, and expierementing actually makes a difference on certain items - although others it still seems to not matter in the least - oh well at least it's something

The BAD :

Armor NERF and possible Resist NERF - Okay taking away all our Droids armor was bad enough, maiking us still need Composite Armor Segements to give them resists was worse, but halving the resist from 40% to 20% is horrific. Armor was the only beneift Droids had over creatures - now we don't have that. With a resist of 20% these Droids are barely better defensively than a BE'd CL10 pet. All this was supposedly done for the sake of balance - yet i fail to see how our inferior, more expensive droids are balanced to a CL 10 pet. DEV's maybe if you took the time to explain yourselves on this one you would get less grief over the subject.

Rare Resources - Dear God, it was tough enough to find the rare resources in good quality we already needed - now it is nigh impossible for one DE alone. Even with guild support i am still unable to find all the resources needed to build Repair / Reconstruction D kits. Not to mention we now need more Rare Resources than almost any other Elite Profession.

New Bugs - EEEEP, there are a quite a few - for a complete list see TK's thread on all the new bugs - why were none of these worked out on test center before the patch went into effect

Repair / Reconstruction Kits - so we got em, but when you do the math on cost vs. effectiveness the only kit to ever make is the B kit (C if you happen to luck into some high quality rare resources) Uh, am I the only one to not be able to make sense of this?????

Repair Modules - DE's still can't call two droids, so we cannot even repair our own droids?!?!?!?!? What gives - if nothing else give us a total non-combat droid we can call to repair our own droids instead of having to find another DE to do it for us.

The UGLY :

Non - Response from the DEV's - not only are they staying silent on Pub 8, they are not commenting on Pub 7 either. In addition to not commenting on either publish, there is apparently nothing being done at the DE's and other players dissapointment / anger / frustration over this publish.

New Chassis - 0, nada, zip, none, not happening. C'mon it would not have been hard to give us at least 1 new chassis type. It would not have un-balanced anything in the game, yet we recieved nothing!!! As an avid Star Wars fan this was the worst part of publish 7. The new chassis type did not need to be a destroyer droid, battle droid, or super battle droid as many have screamed, but at least one new chassis type was expected in a publish entitled "Droid Invasion"

That damn wallpaper - Okay, we've all heard of deceptive marketing - but WOW the publish 7 Droid Invasion wallpaper takes the cake. DE's can't build any of those droids, and 95% of players can't find that armor????

Okay, hope this helps guys.

There's been a lot of great points (constructive) in this thread. w00t for all of you.

For resources, I already had about 1/2-2/3 of them... only a couple types of ore I need, the steel, copper and gems. (gems are prolly the hardest to get lol)

I remember when I first started out as DE... the only extrusive ore was lidium... so I used that to grind and whatnot. Turns out lidium didn't spawn for a few months after that. LOL I was soo happy I had enough left over to make the modules. HEheheh
