Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: It's been a couple of days...
The Good:
I've been busier as a DE than I've ever been
The Bad:
you did state that you were not looking for anything remotely similar to "it sucked".
Well ive been a MDE since about November, i was waiting for this patch thinking "Yes at last something!!", then i descovered the combat modules in ordinary driod shells = complete rubbish, they are slow and have trouble beating kretals, and the HAM omg if thats the same as a CL10 pet, then hell im farming them from now on.
Then the final cherry on top of the giant turd that is the Droid invasion, the R3 driod can't have normal general driod modules, so no more swiss army driods, only crappy 6 combat moduled pieces of crap!
well done SOE keep up the good work
-1 MDE
I started getting a lot less "Can you build *insert non existant craftable droid here*" and I started to get a lot more "Drop the profession man... just walk away" type tells now. lol
I spent some time crafting droids and while I thought the combat R3 was kind of fun, it was a pain to build and with the odd misunderstanding with socket clusters I wasted just a little bit of time, but it was all good.
Really spent a lot of time trying to like the changes, but as I already have to collect 90% (and this is a sarcastic exageration) of the resources that spawn, I was a little taken aback by the remaining 10% (again sarcastic) I now have to mine. Including one I have yet to find spawn... sooo...I could not EVEN play with them. I think if you are going to add a function like that you should at least force that mineral/gas, whatever to spawn. Even if for 1 day right at the outset.
I found that the combat modules stacked well, I actually understood that right off the bat. I was easily able to get each one either at 100 or up to 107. I also liked the R Series lighting graphic for the distance attack.
As a crafter I dont have combat skills, so normally when I would get jumped I would have to run or it would take a while to kill it. The R3 I made ate through some mobs like they were nothing, I liked that, BUT I noticed that even though it took them out easily, the little guy took too much damage. Damage I could not repair because the Solid Fuel I needed was not spawned.
I also liked the fact that I could call my droid and vehicle from anywhere really. That will come in very handy.
Even though it was a necessary change, or so they say, I was also a little put out about the coloring of Droid Chassis. That was indeed another part of my business, but some warning of this change would have been nice. I would not have taken it so negatively at first then. I would have expected it. Because it was changed without any information, my first thoughts were not nice. My concerns were not put to rest until I came here to read the explanation, then I accepted it just fine.
Overall, there were some positive changes, but I am done. I am washing my hands of this profession for now and going to go do something else now. If there comes a time when droids will actually have a role in this game for others besides crafters (And I am not talking combat) and we have some new bodies to play with, then I will come back. For now I am looking for a career in the medical field and I am going to play in the Tailor Profession for a wee bit.
We were told we had their ears... that their attention was on us. Yes it was... they figured out how to nerf us into next year.
Just for the record I don't consider the calling anywhere part of the DE revamp.
I still forget about it lol so I setup camps. Heheh

Yeah but Ackis you are still a scout. For the rest of us Artisans it is a big difference.
I personally kinda like the changes. The bug fixes are really good (and about time).
I do like the repair kits even the Kit Bs do a good job heal the droid. About three uses can bring a droid back to full health from incap.
And mostly we are seeing things, good things. Who would have thought 5 months ago a BLL would actually have a Socket Slot???
I've only been a scout since I dropped DE.
I meant that I do not consider it part of the DE related fixes because vehicles and pets get effected by it as well. ![]()
I don't know... it was annoying getting the countless requests for battle droids and super battle droids, but even inbetween those it hasn't been bad. While droids didn't really gain in strength (and actually lost some), they were still better than some people were thinking. I still don't quite know where the rumor started that probots got completely wasted by kreetles, but with the new combat hype people were giving them another chance and many have been enjoying them.
If nothing else its something different, a little more variety to what I can make.
what you can make. I think that is probably the best part of this publish. Our Draft Schematics have
been looking slim for sometime, and it's kind of fun to be crafting intensely again. I still get
a lot of /tells asking for "the best battle droid you can make" and it still takes me sometime to
explain to those people what DE's can and cannot do as a result of the patch.
But I'm selling out of droids and repair kits like crazy. And more than one person has been expressed
delight over their new droids. I find myself asking "really?" but I'l try and stop that in the future.
Who knows, this will make a lot more sense if we could be gauranteed at some point a future where we
can make better overall droids, both for combat and utility. Who knows if that will ever happen.
Seems like that's the DE condition, : )
A lot of the people on my server just want one of the new droids for fun... just to try them out. They know they're useless, but it's something new in the game, and they're after it.
On a side note, I've heard that you can no longer make uber R3s or R2s (ie: R2 doesn't hold 5 and R3 doesn't hold 6 anymore) is that true?

yea, I'm getting the same thing (regarding people wanting to try them out) but I have had a couple people already send me a /tell saying its working out great for them. CH's seem to like the probot since most of their pets are better tanks than damage dealers, and it puts out a pretty decent amount of damage.
As the the R3's and R2's, they still get 6 and 5 modules.... don't know where that rumor started.
