Thread: Silence Unbroken

Apparently I'm in the right place at the right time, or something.
I /bumped JustG's thread on the Infamous January Quote and he posted a response! Yay! The new official quote is:
"You have all of our development attention now." -JustG,2/12/2004

Hehe, sneaky sneaky, but I caught that one
I guess I've reached a point with the Devs where I've kind of given up on them every listening, much less giving us any useful or worthwhile information on our profession.
Honestly....I think a lot of us understand it better than they do.
TK, I don't blame you for taking that stance about the Dev's, and I would never tell you everything is "okie dokie" with this profession, because it just isn't. I guess I would have to say that we need to treat this more like amarathon (yes LONGER than 7 months!:smileysad
, and not a 100 yard dash. Please don't give up asking the questions and pointing outthe problems and sticking to your guns. You DO know more about the profession that many of the developers, and you NEED to make sure that your knowledge is heard. It may not be that they aren't listening, it's just that they are looking at a much larger population than just DE. Kind of like too many voices drowning out the important message someone is trying to relay. Keep trying to send the message

Have to disagree there, I've been selling droids like hotcakes the last few days in preparation for the Crackdown. People looking for droids to store their sliced items
I also have a steady business for the BH droids (yes I know what is happening to them, but they still sell)
Of course, I should have remembered that when I flew into Bestine yesterday
Former Droid Engineers will be found dead of self-inficted CDEF pistol wounds in seedy starport motels across the Galaxies.
I have enough "self inflicted" wounds to last me a lifetime, thanks

Keep trying to send the message
I'd like to point out that continue to attempt to send messages is largely fruitless when we don't know that a message has been heard (i.e there's a response).
I'm sure we could likely work on a ton of great ideas. However, we do not really know the first thing about what they are actually going to do in publish 7 or 8.
Maybe they don't either. That's fine. However, I think that developing changes to a profession that is (by their own statements) as far-reaching as DE should NOT happen 'behind the curtain'.
They tend to operate in this fashion and I think THAT is a huge mistake.
They only need to do something similar to the following:
"Mr. Devvy-DevGuy: We think that we need to increase the battery life of droid batteries so they aren't as annoying to....well, everyone. Do you think:
1) The time should be increased by a factor of 10?
2) The time should be increased by a factory of 5? (note: We devs are leaning towards this and we'll explain why in a bit.)
3) The time is about right...we have other issues to worry about
4) We need something other than the current battery system (perhaps tie battery life to the blue Mind pool bar)."
This is simply an example of the kinds of things they had better be doing in the coming days and weeks, if they want their Droid focus to actually produce worthwhile changes that will make DEs (veterans and newbies) and droid users sit up and take notice.
On a side-note....
Anyone seen or heard from Drashk lately?

I guess my counterpoint is that we don't know that they "haven't" either. I know it is semantics, but I think one day you will in the position to say..."I told you so!!"
I guess my thought process is a little bit different. You may be making the assumption that every single time we post, that they will listen. I'm assuming that they may not even catch 10% of the actual discussion, focus on the one item in the thread that makes a statement that they think that makes sense, and latch onto it as "representing the community", missing the point of the majority of posts entirely. I think of it as our job to say, "no, I don't think you REALLY" read the whole thread to see what we were talking about. Sometimes trying to separate the "wheat from the chaff" is hard, especially when we aren't the only wheatfield on the farm, if you get my meaning

Oh, I agree, they need to provide at least some "talking points" for these upcoming publishes or this is just another exercise. However, I'm of the opinion that they aren't trying to trash the profession, it's just that they have to make priorities. We now seem to have finally moved up on the priority scale. Looks like we only have one, maybe two chances at this during this go around, so it needs to count. That's not to say that nothing will change in the future mind you.
While it may not directly apply to our situation here, I guess I need to go back to an issue I had with EQ. Don't know how many of you played that, but I have to say that of all the classes at the start, Enchanters were THE most underpowered class I have ever seen (well Rangers, but I had both :smileyhappy
. Figures I would start as an Enchanter, and got pimpslapped on a regular basis
Anyway, point is that it took over a year of them fooling around with other classes, tweaking, nerfing, balancing, creating general mayhem before they got to Enchanters. Once they did, and added seeminglysimple items that greatly enhanced the utility and ability of the class to both find a place in the system and become a part of the overall pattern. What I guess I'm getting at is that we are still in that initial phase. Don't give up, but realize the fight may be more of a seige than a surgical strike
.

Totally agree. It is their chance to listen to what we have to say and make a statement.

Nope, haven't seen any posts from him since at least a week and a half ago. Hope he gets back soon
Looks like the majority of the small remaining group that attempts to care is not bothering to make droids anymore.
I have had a new cynical thought:
SOE will delete the DE class entirely, citing a "Lack of interest in the profession." They will defend this decision by pointing to the number of people dropping their DE skills. 2 months later, combat droids will be given to the CH class, able to be tamed in the wild with restraining bolts.
Former Droid Engineers will be found dead of self-inficted CDEF pistol wounds in seedy starport motels across the Galaxies.
LOL! Too funny.

and
"your droid customisation hasfaded completely!"
wohoo best wasted time of programming, that silly clor should stay some years at least or are they aquarell painted?
/sigh
Well i am still here, although MDE is kinda boring at this point. I make my droids for decoration mostly now, which has kept me entertained for awhile. I made all kinds of neat ones like The Child of Bertoxxulous ectr so forth. I am an old time eqer and probally will rejoin eq for awhile until they fix this class a bit more. I burned my self out before doing the holo grind thing when i should of done this profession to start with. Be that as it may i still enjoy hunting for new resources but i really dont have much motivation to put up a vendor.
Anyhow stay in there brothers and sisters of the broken profession. Hopefully some kind of fix will come soon and we will be the flavor of the month =)

I'm here. I'm just doing the old fashion lurking right now. I started a new job and I'm trying to balance it with everything else that has suddenly popped up on me.
