I hadn't thought along those lines... did you areally have to point that out?

Sorry but I had to. It would suck to givea BE a kick in the collective a$$ just after they got fixed. Though this wouldn't be a problem if non-ch pets had a use other than combat. God knows us CH's have proposed countless ideas. But that's really the only problem I forsee on a Elite Profession Droid Certification system. And personally...as things are now, I see no way around it...unless droids and pets had another use OTHER than combat...

Ok, look. To anyone willing, lets try this. Just for the sake of argument lets say...

1. You cant use a Cert System, none, nothing, Certs are out.

2. You cantlet the Combat Droids you make, useable by the DE, cause thats a huge unblance.

Now with those two things out, tell me how you would bring in Combat Droids into SWG.

Keep in mind that the current Probot, although only 800HAM, with its medium armor is still probably the best CL10 tank in the game. So I doubt they would lose much business in terms of combat "pets". I would say most their creatures are sold to Creature Handlers. The pets they sell to normal people are mostly for decoration in their homes or the cute little critters people want as real pets in game.

BE's also have other markets as others have pointed out such as bio-engineered clothes, etc.

No, pets are about half of a BE's business. Have a look at all the BE clothing out there as well as the various chef supplements (which will be getting in even greater demand after the Chef revamp coming in this next patch). In addition, why should CHs be the main staple of a business in the first place? So long as droids are not better than high-level CH pets, those that want to do big tanking missions would have the option of taking either CH or DH, depending on whether they prefer to work with critters or droids.

Yeah but that's an assumption, a good assumption but still...

Ya can't take away a BE's newly found give and ruin it, it's just not right.

As a CH, I could care less for the pet market. I tame pets for myself or for a friend maybe.

GamerProX,

DE's have had been having that exact discussion for 3 months now, and we kept coming back to certs because it made the most sense. You have no idea what is going on, and haven't felt the need to participate or help with DE development until you (who isn't even a DE) decided to start trolling the board yesterday. Please stop interfering with us trying to make meaningful progress with the devs!

Actually, my point was that it is possible that the devs will indeed keep droids nerfed so that their favorite class, CH, won't be affected....

The real issue for many of us is we don't want or care if there are uber-combat droids in SWG. We want the developers to focus on fixing and enhancing the non-combat functionality of our profession also. If they clone CH and completely focus on combat functionality it may then become unbalancing to enhance the non-combat functions of our droids.

I dont know what decision the dev team will make but I have told them that the community:

  • Clearly doesnt like the idea of a DH profession

  • Prefers the idea of Droid Certifications

The problem with Droid Certs is that it would raise the combat bar and there would have to be a lot of rule changes. I'm working with the team now to pull together some information on all the problems a cert system would bring. Either myself or Runsabre will post on it today.

Perhapse we could all (you Devs and Us players) understand this issue alot better if we defined WHAT a combat droid is.

It seems alot of us are saying CL12,15, or 25 and that you devs might be thinking bigger.

I cannot see a need for >CL15 combat droids myself. they were not that powerful in the movies. And in the Star Wars EU it's more typical that someone reprogrammed a repair or there was even a protocal droid and handed em a blaster.

I think if we could define the Scope of what contituitesthe combat droid range, we could all speak more intellegently on the matter.

As it stands we might be talking about apples and SOE is developing oranges.

this question is very imporant to the end run here. Are we talking about CL70 or CL15 droids?

Droidika were not "uber" they had fast blasters with a good shield. They obviously would not go into the game with impervious shields, that would be loony. as much as in game a single blaster shot kills anyone.

Tune "destroyers" to game mechanics

CL15 3-4k HAM Light Armor 40% resist 180-190 dmg 2.0speed blasters. is what i see. What is it the Devs planned on making that is so large as to require a Whole profession? A droid with Rancor stats? we don't need that in game and ya that would be impossible to cert or balance.

Would their really be that much need to make a droid of that scale?

If this is what TH has to deal with, then gezz do I feel for that guy! NONE of you are making any sense!

1. No to DH, but yes to Certs (We dont want to make DH only droids, but im ok with making droids for the people who have the Certs for it? Ummmm what?)

2. DE's should make the droids and use them (No, cause the DE is an Uber Profession)

When you start making sense, and set out clearly what you want, then maybe I can "Grasp" the issue.

Maybe when you stop trolling and start thinking, you can "grasp" the issue.

No one wants #2. We all recognize how DE would become the uber-profession and totally unbalance the entire game.

YES, we're ok with making droids for people who have certs for them. DEs are just that: Engineers. We make the droids. Using combat droids should be dependent on one's combat status. An entirely new profession is NOT required.

I am MA/DE, 0402 Marksman and 0212 Pistoleer. I can make any droid. I don't expect to be able to use a Droideka, but my Pistoleer skills should allow me to use some sort of CL10+ droid. This by no means makes me uber. Taking up an entirely new profession would cause me to lose skill points in areas that I shouldn't have to give up.

I only see THREE real options to this discussion:

Stong Droids: Requiring a separate profession and in line with CH's (very limited market).

Moderate Droids: upto CL 25 or such available to Crafters who dabble into a DE tree (medium market).

Weak Droids: upto CL 12 or so available to all experienced players (large market).

This is the only three options I can think of that will retain balance. Personally I like the moderate choice; crafters need an option in defenseother than picking up a gun. Perhaps even require master artisian to further compensate for this DE ability (giving this advantage to dedicated crafters).

Cert system will work if some thought goes into it.

Even specific droids for specific combat classes, and masters of certain professions get special droid 'perks'. Certainly BH use droids as part of their profession, it fits into the game, the world and more. Master BH uses almost ALL points, I feel it would be pretty hard to 'abuse' such a professions ability to use droids...

There can be more probot level droids that are quite weak, but about as tough as a critter. One thing about droids- if you make them disposable such as vehicles, then you should make them tougher then a pet BUT of course it's expensive to lose one. That's a simple way to avoid 'exploiting'. Perhaps a DE can have a droid repair tool, or skills to repair 'broken droids' that consumes a repair kit. More market to the DE. More fun, more common sense.
