Dear Idiot -

I am not a powergamer. I am a casual gamer. SOE laughs at my misfortunes as a DE. I have not gotten probots yet. I have nothing I can make that I can sell for money. The time I have put into this profession was a giant waste of time. They took the one thing that could have been decent, and nerfed it so much that its useless.

Dear Pukto (notice that I stay cool here),

The whole DE is bugged so stop wasting time in this profession, level some other profession(s) and come back to DE when it's fixed.

Real casual players arent even supposed to have reach novice DE anyway.

SOE uses the powergamers as beta-testers for advanced techs/skills, nothing else, nothing more.

Ok I'll admit I skimmed the last 6 pages (I'm in the UK so this thread exploded overnight and I dont have time this morning to read it all)

While most people seems to agree that the Probot needed nerfing there are some other factors that make this a 'bad thing' TM. To summarise:

It is one of the few markets (albeit high end) a DE has (the others being crafting and med droids since data droids got nerfed - you'll appreciate that crafting and med droids are a much smaller market)

If you introduce certs for droids you further reduce the marketplace (unless you apply the certs across all professions of the same level. i.e. DZ70 droid at the top level (not master) or any starting profession tree). You would also really need to introduce more combat droids to fill in the gaps (in line with different weapon certs at each level of progression) - the fact remains however that if the balance between construction cost/selling price/combat effectiveness/repair cost isnt right people wont use them.

It takes alot of resources to make a probot (hell most droids) - since we dont get usage xp (were you were implying we did holo?) I dont see many DE's giving probots away (especially considering that _something_ has to pay for harvesters etc) Most DE's ground their way up (at a substantial loss and using other markets to support the venture) to make probots, and now they are there they are finally making money.I think your wrong about players valuing advancement over cash - advancing is relativelystraightforward under any circumstances (although slow if you mine by hand), getting people to buy your stuff is hard, and we became crafters because we didnt want to run missions all day, advancement wont buy us houses or PA halls from architects will?

If the droid is worth lessthen we cant charge as muchso we would be making them at a loss - the upshot is that we will probably stop making them (and giving up on DE altogether) once we realise that they arent selling at the 'realistic' price. Either that or you need to reduce its construction costs in line with its diminished abilities.

Hollo, when I get a flat tire on my car I don't change the oil. But then again, I don't work at SOE.

This is ridiculous. So, what's going to happen to those of us who bought probots today for 35k and conveniently didn't hear about this? How can you honestly claim to be "inviting comments" if you say that you're going to be implementing changes the SAME day that you post them. If this goes through, we'd better have our credits refunded....

Holo,

I have mixed feelings reading this. I understand the necessity of this, assuming that it's temporary. I understand that if people are exploiting...then it must come to a stop. It's sad for the rest of us who don't exploit, but it must be done. I understand that and I'm sure everyone else here does. However.....what exactly am I supposed to do in terms of venturing out on my own to explore things...we all know what happens when you do things on your own in this game...you eventually get killed by something that's got 3x the HAM as you. I was planning to purchase an advanced probot or two to take with me when I did faction missions or just to have with me period to assist me in making money...hey, a marksman has to do it somehow. I get bored doing 2 1K gorg lair missions every 15 minutes. I'd like to go after something that offers a little more high stakes. I can't do that on my own. I don't like grouping often because 1. The amount of credits and experience and worse, faction points, is distributed...I mean what's the point of taking on a faction mission with a group to get 1 or 2 faction points when I can do a simple delivery mission in town and get 5 points for it? I enjoy grouping with my friends in the game...But we don't do it ALL the time. When we're not grouping, we're alone making money, getting experience. It irritates me that I have to play hide and go seek to destroy a rebel base and not be able to destroy the rebel that was in the area with it...it cheats me out of experience and faction points having to leave the rebel. This could be taken care of with the help of a probotor two. It irritates me that when I'm attacking a stupid thieves camp...I knock off the two mildly challenging thieves on my own and proceed to the objective when what spawns but a red master thief with 2,000 hit points that starts ravaging me...I have to run off and not complete the objective..which means I just wasted time. I've been saving up for my first advanced probot, level 4. I had plans to be able to start cashing in better then I am now on experience and credits and faction points but now this is going to have to be put on hold a little longer. I know I'm not going to waste my hard earned credits for something that can die as fast as I can...and I've got a decent HAM...but let's face it, players with 900 HAM bars can die in one hit sometimes, or two or three....The point of having pets that are tougher then you is so they can assist you in your objectives. I'm no stranger to this. I can remember in UO with my tamer. I'd have a couple of white wyrms assisting me in getting cash on the hard stuff in the game. It worked out great. Or in PVP, getting ganked by a mob...just fall back to the pets and see the tide of the fight turn toward my favor. So my thing is this...How Long Will This Be In Effect? Remember, not only are players like marksmen and other fighting classes...even artisan classes that don't have much combat skill...we're getting dealt a pretty good blow here that's going to slow our progress down a bit as well as our hopes of advancement; But you need to also remember the Droid Engineers. Probots are a major, major seller for them outside of Med droids. Everyone wants a protocol droid just to have it to look cool...Status symbol as well because they're expensive. So...keep time in mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying make this the biggest priority...we know that won't be the case...but do try and keep it in mind because you may be doing more hurt to a profession then good. I remind you, I do understand the necessity of this. Anyway, let's all hope that it's only temporary for a short amount of time. Oh, and Holo, you misspelled "Again" at the end of your post.

"Armageddon!"

I've read this and other pertinent threads concerning the suggested nerf. And I have to say that I'm very disappointed at the way the devs are addressing DE issues (or the lack of it). I agree that something has to be done to balance combat driod use. As I understand it, this is a temporary nerf until a better solution can be implemented (i.e., driod certification-use). However,it reasonable to think thedevs will not follow up any time soon given the track record so far. The key here is usefulness whichwill bea huge problem rather than a big problem. That is why I think the devs should rethink this nerf through a bit more and come up with something more reasonable.

On a good note, I do appreciate Holo letting us know what's going on and being as honest as he can about everything. We need more of that! Keep up the good work Holo!

All these hateful messages do nothing but discourage the dev's from reading them.

I think these "Nerf's" are much needed. I especially like the ability for the Droid to be DB'd!

I hope that they "Nerf" the CH's equivently or slightly more to make people with Probots more compatable in PVP.

Yes, I am upset that they are hurting our profession before they actually make us more effective! But we also have to understand that people are able to use our Probots to advance in their professions way too fast. I have taken out groups of some huge creatures (red to me) on talus with one probot... me shooting ocassionally.. making tons of xp. Make a camp, store the droid ... pull it back out and repeat.

ok a probot in pvp can be dropped with ONLY 2 'good' headshot 3 it isn't a high lvl skill for a riffleman so what are you talking about?

They are a joke in pvp as EVERYONE can use one, so you should agree on a scout blaster nerf since some player use only a CDEF pistol??? huh huh

Lets nerf 'rich' players and wipe they bank account telling them it is a bug to keep the game balanced each week hurrah !

I am NOT a driod engi, but somthing I have always though about. in the movies, one of the reason that luke purchased C-3P0 was because he could talk to a binary harvester. Why not allow some driods (perhaps the usless protocall droid) to run your harvesters for you. you just give them the $, and the power, wait an hour or so, and they come back with your ore.
