Thread: No combat droids, please

The idea of no combat droids is doesn't sit well with me. Also, the idea of a seperate class to control droids is just crazy. Droids, once given a task, are able to perform the task on their own. Not like an animal that has to be "controlled". I agree that a certification system should be in place to prevent lower level players from having a droid army, but a seperate class is just out of the question. Watching my best friend who was a DE,get tired of waiting and finially quit from the game. I understand most of the issues involved with DE.One thing that makes SW unique, is the intelligent( relative ) droids, working on their own to perform tasks. With out some specials technician following them around, helping them at every step. High level combat classes should be able to have high level combat droids, etc, etc. Whoever doesn't want combat droids but wants to be a DE, can just not make the combat droids then.

ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING TO KEEP IN MIND---

As you read these suggestions about the current DE's wanting to be a crafting class -- this is WRONG---

For every DE there is currently, 2 or 3 that have tried it in an attempt for it to be a combat class and found it impossible, and therefore have quit and given up on it.

This is the reason I left the profession, make DE's viable in combat pets/weapons and many more will be drawn back into the class.

I just think it is dangerous to listen to this small, obviously more single-minded and insignificant remainder of the profession, as it will skew your perspective on what the class should really be-- that is the mechanized counterpart to the current CH.

Please try to keep that in mind -- look at the big picture of the profession in relation to others, not just simply feedback from this mostly abandoned board......

First of all, if we are insignificant remainder of the profession, we are also the only ones who truly care about it as we are the ones that are trying to bring it to its full potential. While I don't have a problem making combat droids I do havea problem with the idea of combat droids ONLY being used by DE's. If you want to use them thats fine, but don't stop me from selling them. If this will cause game imbalances, then make them require some kind of cert, whatever, just don't make them DE only. If you want to be a pet class, become a CH, if you want to build droids, become a DE, if you want to do both, become both, there are plenty of skill points there for it.

This is one major fight amoung current DEs... 1/2 want combat droids, 1/2 dont want them- here is a concept you might have forgotten in your yelling... CHOICE you dotn want to have combat droids... dont make/use them- let the other half of the DEs who have asked for months now to have them use them... it all comes down to choice... stop fighting with your fellow DEs and maybe we can get some issues that are actually important fixed... like droids that dont do anything (binary load lifters) and droids that dont work correctly (repair droids)

. . . a lot of the stuff you guys think is "easy" to implement, just isn't that easy.

TH,

Honestly, I'm worried that the DEV's might be passing on putting things in just becuase they are too hard. What I am looking for is a long range plan here. Not a, "what can we do in the next patch deal". While I would like to see forward progress made with the next big patch, I also respect that implementing a solid plan may take a few months. Please don't let such a timeline derail the opportunity to properly fix/implement this profession (as well as other aspects of SWG).

The choice goes both ways though, If we have a choice as to whether or not to make/use combat droids, we should also have the choice as to whether to sell them to others to use. This is where the true conflict is. I think the majority of the people on the far side (either side) of this argument are more reactionary than anything else. I believe the central issue that is being debated is DE-only droids.

Adding interesting content to this game is out of the question. We need to STOP the devs from trying to make this game any better, or I'll quit. Why should a droid engineer be able to make good droids, that's totally unfair for the rest of us who only have FWG5 pistols made by master weaponsmiths with krayt scales. They would totally dominate us, especially since we have no concept of tactics beyond 75 successive BodyShot2's. Even worse, CH's work hard for their monopoly on useful tanks, and it would be a tragedy for all of us if they had some competition. Heck, maybe some of those lovely millionaire players would have someplace to dump their cash so this game doesn't become like Diablo, where money is that stuff that takes up room in your inventory while you exchange three medium power guns for one high power gun. Just wait till everyone has 2 million credits, then you can tell me all about how bad it would have been if expensive but competitive combat droids entered the market alongside vehicles and mounts. I don't know why I bother, you're all as retarded as I am.

Not sure if you've been reading all the posts here, but I don't see too many people arguing for NO combat droids, they are mostly arguing about how the droids should be implemented.

What about the empire? They use combat droids. Just look at the dark troopers!

Having some nice combat droids would be great. And if the argument against it is that it's not "appropriate for this time frame", then neither are creature handlers!

Droid engineers, just from the name alone, I think of building all sorts of droids that do many different things. Of all crafting classes, I think they should have the most variety in things than anything else.

If we can sell them to others, they'll be severely underpowered. We SHOULD have some that can be sold to the general populace, perhaps certed with the 4 step plan so many have already outlined...

But I want some REALLY good custom jobbees. And the only way we'll see 'em will be if they are certed to DE's alone.

Just as an example, I'm not particularly thrilled or interested in combat droids, but if they're going to be implemented, so be it. Let's work to make sure they're implemented in a manner consistent with the game's infrastructure, and enhances the Star Wars experience for all.

I may be wrong but I don't think any of the people advocating perhaps one or two DE only combat droids are saying they want ALL combat droids to be DE only. That would be silly...certainly wouldn't help sales. No one wants to be the "new" CH.

Oh, and absolutely do not create a Droid Handler class....we DO NOT want to become the new BE class...no offense BE's but that is NOT what I signed up for...making droids that I can't use...that's just crazy!

Absolutely some seem to be unable to grasp what we are saying about a DE only combat droid. We ARE NOT saying all combat droids should be DE only, we are only saying one or two of our most powerful should be DE only, like MCH pets. This does nt preclude other slightly weaker ones for us to sell. As said above, if we can sell ALL of our combat droids, they will be mediocre at best in the power department to prevent balance issues.
