my question is why shouldn't the components from a r2 fit in an mse level wise? isn't a chasis just a chasis? Isn't a box, just a box? It's just a body..it's what's in the inside that counts. There however is a small difference in the body..and that's how many slots you can use for modules... Do you have cups that only hold orange juice? Do you want a DE (a genius in droid design) to not have the brains to figure out how to make something fit into another chassis?

its a problem of size and Requierd tools to do a job a mouse droids PRESUMIBLY has no or not enoff"tools" for crafting and cant "reach the patient" or "hand over tools to the doc"in medical units its not somuch a mater of contenuality as it is lagistics i cant see a MSE helping a architect put nails in a wall or help mix concreat but a R2 might have a "nail gun and welding atachment" and a mechinized egg beater tipe mixer tool and i can see all that fiting in and being used by a droid no biger that a modern day remot controled car
you make a good point BUT and i Quote http://starwars.com/databank/droid/astromechdroid/index.html

Astromech droids are a series of versatile utility robots generally used for the maintenance and repair of starships and related technology. These small droids are often equipped with a variety of tool-tipped appendages that are stowed in recessed compartments. The R2-unit is a popular example of an astromech droid

mouse droids are ever-present annoyances buzzing back and forth between tasks. They are small, boxy wheeled droids that provide courier and minor maintenance duties

6.) When will the probot be upgraded as per Thunderhearts statement of last week?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The power upgrade for Probots will be pushed out to live in the next publish. Basically, they follow pet rules. After the publish, Probots can be created to the exact same as a Level 10 Pet (keeping in line with the new pet rules. If probots were more powerful, then it would devalue the CH pets…)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoa whoa whoa, wait, what? Let me see if I can understand this.

You don't want to ramp the power on the probe droids because it would devalue the pets of a profession that is, at least, 10 times less common in the movies and literature than our profession. In fact, it was seen twice in the movies (rancor was a pet, of sorts, and the arena scene in AOTC), while droids and droid engineering are seen almost continually, especially when one of the main droid characters got engineered twice.

You don't want to devalue the one that's rarely seen in the Star Wars Universe, so you DO devalue the one that is inescapable in EVERY aspect of Star Wars due to it's frequency and importance to the universe. This results in the one that should not be more prevalent being more prevalent, while the one that SHOULD be more prevalent is borderline useless. And then there's armor made of bone, every city in the galaxy has an identical starport, and there's only one working type of spacecraft in said galaxy.

We need more than a 'Star Warsiness' correspondent here, we need a dev that can take the time to work on this crap. Bone armor. My god.

CH pets are way too strong. With a supply of stim B's and a rock beetle you can solo many large critters all day long. SOE is now apparently trying to change that and rightfully so. I'm encouraged that TH took the time to give us some information but distressed about the worry to "devalue CH" pets. TH ... I think with that statement you unknowingly poured salt in the wound for a lot of us. Whether anybody should have powerful pets (droid or meat) is a big question ... but to allow CH strong pets and not better droids is wrong on several levels. A smite to crafters and a smite to SWG immersiveness.

I do think that this obsession with combat droids is not the biggest issue though. I think we need feedback about increasing utility of droids with mining, survey, travel etc... other elements of SWG life. If there is a plan I'd like to hear it.

Thats valid and we're going to be addressing that in the coming weeks after the holidays. Right now, its key that we get you folks a great Correspondent. Sintrosi will definately be missed, but Im sure there are many among you who are worthy. The DE's are a hardy lot for sure

Thunderheart -

One of the questions right now associated with the lack of a corrorspondant is the communication between the devs and the community, and what the droid schedule is.

We were told that we would see new droids in January - does this mean they will be on TC or live in January?

If live, can we get a corrorspondant BEFORE the holidays so there is time to pass the information along to the devs:

Thanks

"Episode IV was really the story of two droids from start to finish.
Everyone else just got caught up in their mission."

I'm not sure who originally said this. Maybe it wasGeorge, I don't know. But whoever it was, was totally correct. So how someone could make a game (set right after Episode IV) without making Droids an integral part of the game (from the start) is completely beyond me.

And now that they are fixing this short coming, they are limiting Droids based on the pets from Creature Handlers (a profession only seen once in any of the movies)!?!

Did someone change the name of this game without telling me? Or did I miss the fine print that said “Although this game has the words “Star Wars” in the name, no attempt at actually making the game feel like Star Wars will be done.”?

No let’s look at pets in general. How they are “Created”, how much effort/resources are put into them and who can use them.

  1. Droid Engineer: Create very versatile pets (although not versatile enough given the setting) The effort involved in creating a droid includes Resources, and maybe buying components from a master artisan. Anyone can use a Droid, but that person can only have one out at a time. The Droid Engineer can only have one droid out at a time even at master level.

  2. Bio Engineers: Create organic pets by sampling DNA and putting it together with other resources (My knowledge is limited here so it may be more involved). Not as versatile as Droids, but they can be created to order (in a fashion) Their creations have limited use by anyone (higher level pets only usable by Creature Handlers) Bio Engineers can only have one pet out at a time (even at master level)and only pets that don’t require CH skills to control.

  3. Creature Handlers: Tame existing creatures found out in the worlds. No resources required. Pets not as versatile as droids, buttheir petsarethe highest combat powered pets in the game. Their creatures have limited use by anyone (higher level pets only usable by Creature Handlers) Creature Handler can have more then one pet out at a time and at master level, Creature Handler (a non-combat profession) can solo targets that a pet-less group would have trouble with.

So to summerize, the profession that uses the least amount of effort/resources in “creating” a pet, is the profession that gets the most powerful pets and can have out the largest number of pets at the same time. This profession can sell it’s pets at a 100% profit (ok maybe a 99% profit if you include travel expense) and can also solo the most rewarding missions (even though they are not a pure combat profession). This same profession is now the “yard stick” used to limit the power of Droids (once they are fixed) Yet this is the profession that was only seen once in a Star Wars movie…does this make sense?

Well with the vehical patch we added 2 more bugs. Customization kits no longer function, and item storage no longer functions.

My the list of bugs in this profession just gets longer and longer.

How about we fix something? It would be a nice change guys.

BRAVO GRIN

I have resided my thoughts to the reson CH was/is so dominating in this game is RoTJ was the first Star Wars movie the majority of the devlepors watched when they where kids.

I pray I am wrong, but having seen "A New Hope" in the theaters when it hit the theaters in 1977 I have no clue as to why Droids have never been a domintate force it SWG.

If I remember my lore correctly, wasn't the original working title of the script called "Droids"?

I'm not sure if the "Crafter" sect of Droid Engineer won the Dev's ear or not when the debate over whether or not DE was a pure craft profession or a partial combat profession was heating up, but it could very well be that our profession is less than the CH's because of our own people railing against it.

But currently there isn't any real reason to have more than one droid out at a time. Only if we are able to "task" droids will we need this option, and by task I mean have a power droid feeding power to my harvesters while a BLL collects the harvested resources and a probot patrols my factory to keep those Levia-Gnorts away....

It looks as if a majority of the DE fixes won't happen til at least mid-January, which gives me enough time to drop DE skills to Master Tailor like my Holo said to and pick them back up again before the fixes come to pass, but I really hope they get to it soon. Beefing probots up didn't really make them any more popular because you still can't fix a droid without another droid with a repair module...hey, this is the only reason to have more than one droid out! I found one!

Thankfully, I can cover my droid habit with my armor sales.....

I dont know whats coming but i'll tell you this. If they give DE's the ability to call heavy armor high ham droids, let them make droid stims, have them make the actual droids themselves, beable to make utility droids, etc etc etc....then its bye bye BE and HI DE. Period. BE will be a joke as all they do is make the pets and stims which they sell to another class. From what they are saying, sounds like they are making DE's a BE and CH merged into 1. I like to see how they are gonna balance or justify some guy using all his skill points to make and use pets and the DE using on half of his to do all a BE and ch could do. Im gonna have fun watching this balancing act.
