Thread: Droid Engineer, Droid Commander, and Droid Cert System A possible compromise

i believe basing the system off of CL level is a better idea. perhaps the following:

1. NON DE's can buy certain droids that are CL level based

2. DE and DC's can buy or make MUCH (and i mean a whole hell of alot)more powerful droids using a DL (droid level) systems which would be similar to the CL system.

this would allow everyone to use a droid while still making the really neato droids off limits to those who dant want to spend the skill points. i would also like to see weaponry count! buy the weapons for a droid (customize the droids weapons payload) from a weaponsmith. the stats on the weapon, is the damage the droid will do. In other words, the better the weapons outfit the better the droid. it would make sense to do this too... how many droid engineers know how to build a rocket launcher?

I've finally read through this thread.

I'm a new Master DE on Sunrunner, and I sell droids from time to time, so making some money, but not a lot.

I have had TONS of people not making any orders because they are waiting for the patch.

But now, we got nerfed again...and for the strangest thing of all, DEs might not be able to make money because they would have to master a higher profession or wait for others to master a higher profession/new profession?

I just want to be able to craft droids realistically and be able to actually SELL DROIDS to make money like other Professions craft stuff to make money. I want people to need to come and get droids repaired or new ones made because their old ones break down. I want modules to actually work. I want resources to count for quality and component quality to actually MEAN something.

Combat Droids are all fun...in all seriousness, just limit what you can put onto a Combat Droid, limit their weapons for diff levels. Higher levels cost more resources, more resources used means more money commanded for them, more money asked means less people who will be buying them right off the bat.

Rambling here...but I'm not fed up, I'm keeping DE because I LIKE MAKING DROIDS. I'm keeping Pikeman BECAUSEI LIKE PIKEMAN. SOE has nerfed both these professions, but not going to drop them just because they are getting screwed. Not even to become a Jedi on Sunrunner will I give up these two professions because I'm doing what I like.

SO PLEASE JUST DO SOMETHING FOR THIS SHOW OF LOYALTY FROM OTHER DROID ENGINEERS, JUST GIVE US WHAT WE WANT

Thank you

Well, as usual, whenever I read a post from a correspondent (granted i only read fencer and DE boards at this point) I am blown away. Drashk you have a very well thought out compromise.

Personally, I think that combat driods should be limited to only certain (a) profession(s). Really, the last thing I'd want to see is my buddy who is a CH running around with two Grual Maulers (or rancors) and a couple of driods blasting everything. But, even though I am a DE, who started into the proffesion to make driods, I'd like to be able to use a combat driod. Obviously your plan worked that out to make me happy. A thik a Driod COMMANDER (handler would down play the difference between a DC and CH, as I thin there should be a big difference at least in principle) would be a good idea and the cert system would too as anybody could own a combat driod reguardless of profession so long as they are willing to cough up the XP and skill points.

Awesome job!

It's a good idea. You might as well make a full class while your at it. It will benefit the DE profession in the long run. I still think that DEs should be able to call multiple droids. As long as that is included, I'll go on board with it.

Or you could do the simplest and most RESPECTFUL thing for those DE that have withered the storm of being the forgotten crafting class and base all droid use on skill tier’s. This would protect against low end players using highly powerful droids.

If this “Idea” takes shape I request the DE Correspondent make an appeal to the Developers to grant all DE a one time free master crafting skill respec.

I did not grind out my frames to become a “JedI” I did it because I chose to. I did not however know I was going to be the wet nurse supplier to one specific droid control class.

This is Star Wars EVERYONE should be able to control droids.

Good posts.. really good posts..

Just wanted to air my views on the driod problem and how I would like to see it

I just stated the CH proffesion and I must say.. damm its to slow for me.. Im more of a driod guy! I took the CH to get some help in combat as I use pistols (pistoleer/smuggler) but i would really like to use driods instead.

The driods in the game are to bad in combat so an alternative to CH using driods would really make my day. Even now im really considering doing the artisan- droid engeneer eventhought the driods are bad in combat. Why because I hope that the Driod invation will make every one stop and say "Ok driods really works!" and the oppotunity to use driods in more that just combat. So i keep my fingers crossed that the DEV will grant the DE the skills and the power to create great working driods...

You have my vote!

I still feel no love!!!

I should not have to grind out a second Elite profession.

I want combat droids, with decent ham, with modules that work.

I want to be a diversed as a Architect in building there nice schematics. Right now the DE has all useless crap and has been this way since release. So taking this to another level just pisses me off...

Get what is broken fixed and give us something decent to have by our sides... Instead of a 800ham combat droid and a Lifter that has 1250ham that does nothing...

This is a great idea and getting so many great posts put in. I am alarmed at some of the costs quoted. 50,000 combat points to get a novice profession??? You do know that that amount of combat points is equal to 500,000 weapon points (highest lvl trees in each fighting profession are 450,000 weapons points.) It would be very hard to convince someone to spend that load of combat points and skill points just to become a novice.

I am more from the camp that droids should be for everyone... They are a programmable item, not difficult to use. Every fighting profession already has a tree devoted to combat exp. It would be simple to add certs into these trees equaly. Plus, as a droid engineer, I think that we should have those certs as well in our tree.

How big should these droids be? Well, I have been a Master CH for a long time and know what people will use and what they wont. Almost nobody uses a lvl 10 pet for combat. This is the same that happened to the probot. They are destroyed so quickly its not worth it. If you are not going for master... people seem satisfied with a greater sludge panther.. Call lvl 25. This should be the HIGHEST lvl for a droid (maybe lvl 30, around 8k HAM) That way it is different from CH, where it is a whole new skill tree and therefore worthy of lvl 60-70 pets, and still fun and useful.

What I want is for many people to use droids, break their droids, and have to buy new ones! That way I have a reason to make more! Right now droids are like good extractors, once you buy one.. you're done. Since so few people use droids, for the many reasons listed elsewhere, there is not much market.

Wow, you all are a busy posting bunch! I am fairly new to SWG (less than 2 months), however i have been playing and playtesting RPG's for almost 20 yrs now. First, Kudos to SOE and the community for getting the game to where it is now. I'm sure the current game mechanic/build is in large part thanks to all of you. Second, MAD KUDOS to Drashk for taking the time to so wonderfully think this idea thru. (And i'm sure this took awhile) Third, I highly doubt anyone at SOE will ever read this or care, but hey in my humble opinion this might be the perfect solution to this problem.

FIRST - NO CERTIFICATIONS FOR COMBAT DROIDS!!!! Just as not everyone can heal, buff, use certain weapons/tools, etc. - Not everyone should be able to control an UBER combat droid!! Can anyone use a level 70 pet (i don't believe they can, but as i said i am new-ish and have 0 pets - i'd rather have mechanical things thank you - and if everyone can use a level 70 pet that should be changed immed.) Therefore only Droid Eng. and Droid Commanders should have access to the high level droids! Everyone else should be able to use some kind of utility and / or combat droid, but not the high end ones!! This should also apply to utility droids - should a starting novice medic be able to use the same top of the line med droid as a master doctor - i think not!

SECOND - Droid Commander should be a Hybrid Profession - no questions asked! I like the Eng 4 and Ranged support 4 pre reqs, but might i suggest some slightly more limiting requirements. Such as Eng 4, Ranged Support 4, and Exploration 4 - this makes sense because a Droid Commander should be mobile(Explore 4), Tactical (Ranged Support 4) and Mechanical (Eng 4), this also allows DC to be combined with DE at master level (assuming DC takes the same 63 skillpts as DE), but at the expense of everything else. The main thing is to make sure master DC and CH are not possible at the same time by one character!!! Also DC should not be able to combine with master BH, Commando and possibly combat medic? At first i lumped squad leader with that, but a squad leader/ droid commander could be an interesting and natural combination (so long as a you cannot get Squad Leader xp from your droids). (Or one could require Master Droid Eng to be a Droid Commander - but then DC better be almost as cool as Jedi!!!)

THIRD - Droid Commander should definitely be a new proffesion! I agree with Drashk Droid Commander is much better than droid handler. After all i have never seen anyone in a star wars film that would claim to be a droid handler - but many would poudly lay claim to Droid Commander - in fact you even see a few (assuming that is what they are) in the Geonosian battle in Ep 2. Also by seperating the proffesions you make a clear distinction between crafting and combat - A lot of DE's will leave the Prof if you make them fight to gain levels. Conversely many combat junkies will never play a Droid Commander if they have to spend lots of time crafting. By seperating the two SOE would maximize the # of players appeased. Droid Commander would also legitimize DE as a real prof! Right now only doctors, crafters, and BH's want droids. With a Droid Commander the demand for Droids will go thru the roof!!! (Heck combat droids of any kind would drive up demand)

FOURTH - PvP and PvE battlefields!!! A skilled Master Droid Commander should be a fearsome sight on the battlefield. They would add depth to battle strategy and tactics, as well as help smaller groups of Players contend with larger forces.

Okay, if anyone else really like this and has the SOE devs ear - please feel free to pass along. Remember the most important thing to consider here is the overall game balance. Uber Droids must be kept out of the hands of the masses!! Only DC's should be able to control squads/ armies of droids!!! DE must remain a crafting proffesion!!! Oh, and if the Devs allow them - any DC/DE with Destroyer Droids should be able to make a Jedi RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - after all two destroyers made Qui Gonn and Obi Wan turn tail!!

hrmpf, to all things balancemusttherebe

ok, i have only been playing SWG for two months now, when i first saw the game I thouhgt of a character that i had in the RPG, He was a DE of sorts and i used several droids at once, I think that idea that Drashkhas is avery good idea, i mean look CH's can have ranchors (BE or not). why should i not be able to back up that TSK or Brawler that is in my group, with some of my finaly crafted Combat droids. maybe i am just not seeing the problem here. What we might have to give upa skill tree worth of points to take the DC class. well hell, I will give up fencer for it any time. I think that there should be a more wider selection of droids, but hay you can't have everything
