Outside town, everyone will [ONLY] use [COMBAT]droids (now the probot)...period. Currently, most players run around with a creature AND a probot. However, I often see players running around with a creature AND an R2 (3,4,5) unit or other droid. They use the creature to attack, the droid to sit there and heal afterwards. BOTH of these scenarios will be gone after the nerf, and players will choose (1) one CL10 creature, or (2) one probot which can do every function a player could possible need in the field.
You know what? The major problem is one of Logic. We think of metal as being better than meat. You need to work pretty fricking hard to come up with a reason WHY meat is better. In a world of technology, technology is SUPERIOR except when it encounters the mystical force. The force is when meat wins.
lets put this in perspective, technology rules. the force brings us a way to overcome technology. It makes us better, stronger, magical, whatever.
So what about pets? How does this fit in? We bring our conceptions into this argument. Im personally am a techonological optimist. I believe that technology will solve our problems. I personally believe that technology will have advanced tactical computers that will taget a rancor in the eyeball with a laser that will sear its brain out. We, in the 21st century have personal missles that can shoot an airplane out of the sky. It can track an object moving at the speed of a bullet. What the heck does starwars have? What should it be able to do?
CH. fine, they have a place, we can ride the. You need to be working from the other side. WHY MAKE THEM USEFUL. I already have an argument on why robots can kick your ass.
So tell me... why are creatures so great?
Oh yeah, and one more thing, I played UO. and the comments about holo concerning UO ring true.
Starwars is not medieval except in one important aspect.... the force.
I remember the godaweful imbalace of animal tamers. Technology should have the edge. Except when the force is involved. So remeber the genre. I love being a DE. Im not a master, and wont until the class is worth investing in.
If it takes an elite-elite class, fine.
Do it. Make me a technologist. And if a jedi comes up and kicks me in the rear end. ill go "whoa, thats one mean mofo, and be delighted". becuase thats the starwars universe.

nerf the batteries. No one uses probots because the stupid things eat batteries faster then they take dmg. Selling batteries isnt helping DE if no one is buying droids.
i had some HIGH level copper scraps and did a run of high quality droid batteries for my vendor....
they just sit there....for 2 months
on the OTHER HAND...i can not keep pet stims and vitality packs in stock
so this tells you where the demand is..
i am not a DE but want to see them take their rightful place and make this game more Starwarzy...
THE CH's NEED TO BE TAKEN DOWN....they need to be on the level of chefs or dancers as far as pecking order goes...
Thats called an R3

Btw, have you seen the clear domed R2 units? Very cool!
This part bothers me. Making probots the "exact same as a level 10 pet" would be a big drop down in power from where they are now by my estimations. Also, CH pets SHOULD be less valuable than droids to NON creature handlers.
Slythetove is right, on both counts. Level 10 creature pets can be healed via stimpack, whereas probots cannot. I don't know how powerful probots are right now, but I do know CL10 creatures present no difficulty to even Novice Marksmen.
And, I wholeheartedly agree that droids should be more valuable. There are a myriad of reasons why this is so: nearly all of us want more droids than creatures; droids are more difficult to produce than CL10 creatures; Creature Handling for combat should be the provice of Creature Handlers; and finally, it makes NO sense that a civilization would bother to make droids without the need for them.
wait until the space expansion...
unlike the films where EVERYONE has an R2 unit copiloting, in SWG it will be better to haverock beetle...

looks like you win
From my view this was a win for everybody, from Devs to DEs to non-DE players in the game!
Thanks TH! You made my day. ![]()

I think DEs Should, have combat advantages. Just like CH. This would be easy to accomplish by having DE only droids. Or A Mech like Droid a DE could ware. Some people dont care at all about combat. But the vast majority do. I think, dancers, Weaponsmiths Etc.. Etc. All should have somthing to give them a fair shake at combat if they want. WS could have advantages to weapons they built themselves. ('you build it you understand it. Can aim it better maby, get more power out of it etc.') Dancers could have ranged and melee dodge advantage. etc. etc.
Now a pure crafter, who invests nothing in any combat skills would not be competitive with the combat classes. But, I wopuld like to see those who want to craft (or entertain, or whatever) (but not soley) have a chance to be competitive in combat. I suppose it may be reasonable for a high cost pure combat class to have some bit of combat advantage as a pure warrior. But I want anyone who wants to craft and combat, to be able to. (As do 'most' players I presume)
CHs have a good chance to do business as well as combat by selling low lev pets. Mounts, etc. DEs have a much better start at that by all the 'swiss army' like functions that can be sold to the masses. I see no need to avoid a DE only combat droid option to preserve thier crafting abilities. And if some DEs feel they must be part of a very small population, or a non combat population, to have fun. Well then I really have little sympathy for them. In 'reality' 'lovers' can be good fighter too. (g). There's plenty of non combat skills to fill up a noncombat's table.
are you implying that combat classes should have a chance to craft as well (afterall, balance does go both ways). Now a pure combat person, who invests nothing in any crafting skills would not be competitive with the crafting classes. But, I wopuld like to see those who want to fight (but not soley) have a chance to be competitive in crafting.
Th,
On Probots. The entire reason they quit selling was because they were nerfed into being weaker than pets. If your goal is to make them no stronger than a level 10 pet to appease ceatue handlers, then you are just wasting valuable developer time to make a change that will not help. NOBODY will be wanting, or buying, a lvl 10 probot that cannot even fight a diseased bocatt.

It is not acceptable that the droid fixes will limit DEs to making the exact same droid model every single day... The non-CH pet nerf is going to KILL the DE profession REGARDLESS of whether you fix droid functionality (remember...everything you need to do in towns and in the field is already doable without droids).
i am not one to flame normally but IMHO this is a very narrow minded view ...
ITEM 1) i can make only 75% of my goods at a "Public Crafting Station" Butat a "Private / Droid Crafting Station" 100% of my goods areavalible to make and i only spend 10 - 20% of my time at home so my droid is the best choice ...
ITEM 2) item storage yes thers a bank in town .. but that bank cant be opened on ANY planet like a droid, it cant be opened in a customershouse on Dant when i need a crate of GP units for a droid part ...
ITEM 3) yes Probots do have a attack option yes thay are good for combat .. and right now they can be pulled out with a pet and right now they account for 5% of my order requests i can see them maybe geting to 50% at most but i doubt it
ITEM 4)i Get a lot of players asking what chassis makes the mostsense for a module (surgical for medical) (mouse for data) (R_ for crafting) i also personaly dont like the look of probot and only own one because its a pre-nerf is it wasnt i would not own it (not every player does PVP and PVE)
ITEM 5) i feel only DE should be alowed to use repair units it causes repeat business i have had players bring me there droids for repair (free from me) and wind up bying a new droid or replacing the damaged droid altogether as it no longer fit there professions needs
i could go on but i will stop here ... i would like to say you bring up good points but its not the case for all players (not every ones a Power gamer / combat only)
And still no comment on what "created and used only by DE" means?
This has been a major contention amongst many of us since The Plan was posted.
But no clue how combat droid usgae will be implemented.....
The rest sounds GREAT. Especially the fixes.
Bring 'em on!
