You didn't think I could let it just get boring, did ya'?

Oh no TK said the "D" word. Just when things were getting calm around here.
For now, I hope people don't lose their minds over this. I'd like to see the guidelines they put forth to us before that kind of thing kicks off.

That's really about it, in a nutshell. I think there's been enough water under the bridge on this (I hope) that the DE boards won't melt down when we start to work on this again.
I think our 'charge' will be to understand that something like a DC profession will be the answer to getting higher end droids into the game. Within the confines of that, we may well have some amount of freedom / input on how it gets done and what the features/systems look like...
THAT is how we should be thinking about this issue...
"If we're gonna get this, how can we make it as cool as possible?"

I agree, having a DC profession is really the only viable way to get some high end, cool, sweet droids that we've all been yearning for. I haven't read any proposal that would be balanced enough to allow high end droids and not DC.
There are a lot of "cool" ways to do this, however the coolest ways are not going to happen. My personal favorite is to make it into a sort of Squad Leader profession that commands huge numbers of droids in very organized formations like in Episode I. This presents inherent problems though, like the fact that if your rich enough to buy a million Battle Droids you could rule all of Tat, but it would be really cool to see a couple DC's going at it between AH and Bestine. This is what I want to see, but I realize that it is not possible because I know I'm not the only one that would think this would be cool, and everyone would get this immediatly and this game would turn into Droid Wars.
Now a more reasonable solution would be to map DC like creature handler, which isn't very creative but would work. I know nota lot of DE's are happy about this, but it seems to be the best option. The sub-professions for DC would have to take some stretching of the profession definitions but I'm sure it would be workable.
Personally though, I see a DC as someone with a small band (5-10)of hired droids to do some dirty work, a person that if they lose a droid in combat they just buy another or take it home and repair it. I think of DC as a mercenary with a hired group of very specific comrades. Their combat skills are mediocre at best, not really up there with the BH's, Commandos, or Riflemen. This could be solved by making some DE skills a requirement of DC, that way more skill points are being spent. The droids this person has bought, or made for themselves do most of the dirty work. Each droid also could have very specific characteristics: Tank/Brawler, Sniper, Swordsman, Heavy Weapons. There could probably be a droid to mimic every profession. The droids individuallywould obviously not be as powerful as a PC, but they would, combined (at highest level of control) would be able to take one down if the DC is skilled at commanding and a certain level of tactics is used. The droids though would take damage and would need repairs pretty much every fight, so that the DC would have to have some down time each time he/she went into combat. Any thoughts on this would be cool,I know it's not original but it's how I see a DC.

Ok, maybe I wrote too much for people to stay interested, here's a free bump to page one for more discussion.
Yea, and indeed Verily I say unto you: The magic word is still Hybrid.....but I still have the little blue pills from the last discussion on this, so at least I am ok.

As hard as worked on it, the Hybrid thing just can't happen. It was a great proposal that simply wasn't workable. Sad but true.
Note: And....keep in mind, that I was a supporter of any proposal that wasn't DC. It just appears that it is the only real way we are going to see good, high-level combat droids.

If it were to be otherwise, you'd see TK421 set down his droid tools for good.
(...oops. Maybe I shouldn't jinx us like that.)
