Attention all DEs and droid lovers...(and, yes, you droid haters too).

The SWG KnowledgeBase (and the droid info contained therein) needs your help!!

If you've ever wanted to be able to help your droid clients by showing them quick, easy answers to the 100s of droid questions you get, now is the time to step up.

Please take a few moments and put forth your common questions...and the best clear, concise answers you can muster. The more we build up this thread (with quality information), the easier our DE lives will be.

Examples:

  • How can I name my droid?

  • How do I give my droid a battery?

  • Etc.

Basically, we'll be building an FAQ from all of us to all our clients. So, add your suggested question/answer below and keep them a' coming...really, really.

Both you and your droid clients will be very glad you did (soon), I can assure you.

To see current droid-related entries: Click here and enter "droid" and hit Enter or Submit. You'll see a listing of "Solutions to consider".

Note: The past KB thread of items can be found here.

Hey TK, are there only ten "solutions" in the KB, or can I only see ten at a time? I didn't see any kind of "next 10 items" link. I'd like to see the whole list in order to find out what is missing, but I couldn't tell if what I was seeing was the whole list or not.

I wouldn't worry terribly about what's missing or not. The CSRs that work it up will undoubtedly keep duplicates from occurring. I believe there are really only about 10 or so right now.

That's why we need to start crankin' out the questions and answers in this thread.

This is really important, all. From what I can tell, this will be a great help to droid clients when it gets pushed but only as much as we make (by filling it with info now).

Also, contributing to the knowledge base is a cool way to bring your own personal content to the game. I posted a suggestion for the KB in the Architect forums and a couple of days later I saw almost my exact words in the database.

Hmm, time to stop typing and think of the wording for my nest entry....

Yes....post anything/everything that you can (as long as it's actually correct info).

The CSR overseeing this is a 'thread monster' and can probably take whatever we throw at him. They WANT as much of this info as possible.

This could be a superbly positive thing for DEs if we all take advantage.

Just one, from every active DE on any DENet list will mean a TON of awesome droid info that you, your clients and everyone will have access to...all the time, in a few keypresses or mouse clicks.

I posted a few (in the original KB thread) and they got added within like minutes (and they were word-for-word my answers).

Please...I emplore everyone to add just one question/answer to this thread. If we do, we'll have a very healthy droid FAQ to point our clients to in-game. This is something that will really impact both your 'life' and your droid clients' lives in-game.

Fixed - sorry about that. Sometimes the tool eats everything after a double quote if we're not careful.

We definately want to compile all the information we can about changes going in with publish 7. We'll hold them until the night before the publish, then push them live, to avoid confusion.

For quick answers to many game play questions, you may want to first reference the knowledge base located in the Holocron Menu. You can do so by selecting the customer service option and then using the knowledge base tab. We have recently added hundreds of new FAQs and answers and more will be added more daily, so give it a try!

I'm seeing that there isn't much being posted in this thread in the way of questions so I'll add my top two:

1. How much does a droid cost?

This is a big question and unfortunately has a big answer. A droid is made up of many parts and the total of those parts is what determines the price of the droid. The price of each of the components is determined by the individual droid engineer. You can expect to pay in the neighborhood of 10K for a decent droid chassis. Some are more and some are less. You can also expect to may as much as 10K for high quality modules. Most droid crafting stations are around 5K and most personality chips are around 2K. Most droid engineers will also color your new droid once for free and provide you with some batteries to get you started at no additional cost.

2. What does a droid do?

There are several functions for droids both in and out of combat. Non-combat roles for droids include personal crafting stations, mobile medical centers, item storage and data storage. Armor modules allow your droid to be somewhat protected from attack and combat modules allow your droid to attack anddo a fair amount ofdamage. You can also program your droid to patrol an area based on point you give it and some droids will talk back to you in a variety of styles like slang or sarcastic.

3. How do I know which droids do what?

The first important point is that the name of the cassis doesn't decide what the droid does. The only exception to this is the power droid. Droids are made up of parts so whatever gets put into a droid is what you can get out. So you don't have to have a Surgeon Droid to have a mobile medical center. An R2 or Protocol Droid will do fine. Or even a simple and cheap MSE (Mouse) Droid will work for that. Some chassis have more places to put modules than others so if you want your droid to do lots of things an R2 or R3 would be your best bet.

Thank you Shuca! I can't put the first question in the KB as its too dependent on the Server Economy on any particular server, and will change over time. I have taken 2 and 3 and combined them into one entry with the question "What does a droid do"

Thank you for the input! Let me know if you have any more questions for the KB!

Ok here's some that I've got.

1. My droid won't group with me or follow any other command.

If your droid won't group with you, attack a target, or generally any other command that you might have given it, then there are a couple possible problems.

A) If you're droid does not have enough power in it then it will not be able to perform any functions for you other than following you around. A good way to test if your droid does not have enough power is to try the last command you sent to your droid and look above its head. You should see some text floating above your droids head that says **Low Power**. If this is the case then access the radial menu of your droid and click on the Recharge button. If it says that you do not have any power storage devices then you need to go buy some Droid Batteries from a Droid Engineer or anyone else who has Novice Artisan.

B) If you do not see a **Low Power** floating above your droids head then you either issued your droid an invalid command, or issued a valid command with the wrong name. An example of this is as follows: If you're droids name is Bob and you tell your Bob "group" it may not group with you because you need to say "Bob group". A way to check what the correct wording is for the command you wish to issue to your droid (such as group, patrol, or various formationd) is to go to you Datapad and access the entry for your droid. Go down the radial menu on that entry and click on the "List Commands" button. This will open up a box with various commands and what to tell your droid to follow them.

2. How do I get my droid to follow my commands?

There are several ways to accomplish this. For example if your droids name is Bob and you want it to group with you then you can type "Bob group". Or you can type "/tellpet Bob group". Providing that "Bob group" is the correct command to get Bob to group with you (Check out the "List Commands" button on the radial menu for your droid in your datapad) then Bob should do so.

1. naming and programming commands to a droid

I think what I tell my clients solves this Bob problem:

When you want to program the commands or name your droid, access the radial menu of the droid and choose 'Program'.

From there you will see a list of commands. Identify the first 4 and use each in sequence ( Radial, Program, command of your choice) , preceding the command you want to use with the droids intended name, for example 'Bob Group' for the Group command. Do it in sequence 1 thru 4. Every command you issue should see the droid say '?' before you speak, and say '!' after it learns.

Note: Talking droids (Surgical, LE-Repair and Protocol) behave differently, in fact just like Faction 'pets'

You cannot name a 'Talking Droid' ******Devs please note this is BAD *****

It is very important to note that a Droid name cannot contain numbers or spaces (use a '-' to achieve the effect of a space'

After the 4th command in the list is programmed in this way the droid name will change to 'Bob'

Now, repeat the programming of the first 4 commands, but this time omit the droid's name..he knows it already..now you are telling him the command he will hear from you in the future. After this step, it will be sufficient to say 'group' (or even 'G' if that is what you taught him) to get your droid to Group with you, his name is no longer needed.

Remember, when commanding your Droid, the /tellpet command is as good as saying the command in spacial, and it has the huge advantage of being invisible to other players, nobody will know if you ordered the attack. Used in conjunction with the 'Stay' or 'Patrol' command, your droid is capable of attacking from any position you left him in, even behind the enemy.

It should be remembered in this scenario that the presumption is you only have your droid 'out'. If you intend to use a creature pet or faction 'pet'in conjunction with your droid, it is important to ensure that the two have separate and distinct commands for individual commands like 'attack'. Group and Follow commands can obviously be the same. You are a Droid's commander, it is up to you now.

In future, if you ever want to change the Droid#s commands simply access the menu for 'program', select the option, and type in spacial what you want the command to be. Your Droid will answer '!' when the command is learned

Unlike Creatures, you can re-name your Droid yourself, just repeat the naming process already described.
