Thread: A stupid Idea for the Protocol Droid

Why not make some of the NPC mini quest be delivered by some of the NPC R-2's running around. Since the player has no idea what the R-2 is saying, he would need a protocol droid to translate the mission to him. If I remember right, this was a big part of C3PO's job in the movies.

A second REALLY stupid idea:

When we get the mouse bombs I would like to be able to make the protocol droid a bomb also. I think I can advertise this and get alot of one time sales. "Tired of that mealy mouth golden boy? Wanna send him to the fate he deserves? Introducing the C3PO BOMB!" Oh yea, he has to talk all the way!!! LOL I could sell them I think.

If I win your auction you can contact Walleyedai or Slipkid In-Game, or drop the goods at the "Ship Chassis" vendor at the cords listed below.

This is sick.

This is twisted.

But when you get right down to it, it's not a bad idea.

Well, other than the fact that humans can learn to understand Binary (Luke had no trouble knowing what R2 was telling him after the first movie), but as other people have suggested you could make use of obscure languages in quests (such as Jawa or Tusken) to make a Protocol Droid useful.

On the question of explodadroids, is this just limited to MSE droids? I thought this was a module you could put into any droid. If not, it should be.

The lightsaber launcher module? I'd rather have the drink tray.

Please Remain Calm. There Is No Need For Panic.
Remember, there are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I think sometimes luke did actually understand what r-2 was saying, but it hink that's only because he had spent a long time with r-2, like how han solo understood wookiee language (is it shyriwook or something?).

He learned it from BigHairyWoOkiE in front of the Coronet starport after character creation.

Luke was reading a display on the dash of his X-Wing, not speaking binary or beep-boop-whistle or whatever. Never noticed anybody understanding an R2 directly...

Correct, Luke talked to R2-D2, but aside from generally positive or negative Bleeps from R2 I never saw information pass from R2 to Luke except with a technology interface (X-Wing or C-3PO).

Conclusion: R2 has Basic comprehension. And nobody puts a vocoder (or whatever the speech thingy is) into an Astromech droid.

Point taken but there was a lightsaber passed or (launched) from R2 to Luke lol
