Thread: Effectiveness of the combat droid (cl30) now with Publish18?

Well I pulled out my Adv. Probot...
First CL18 but after storing and recalling CL30... With all stats maxed as said by Drashk in his sticky on Pub18 notes. Note: the Adv Probot had 2 CL4 armor modules, 4 combat modules and 1 Repair module pre Pub-18 (and was worthless).
In the town there were a few maruaders, CL26... so i thought well...CL30 > CL26 so my droid should be able to take one out....
Oh my.......
Guess again ....
3 shots and my droid was in pieces on the ground...
So a great fix.... NOT!
Hmm...
Were you grouped with the droid and happen to be Level 1 -5 by chance?
Even though they are not supposed to, droids seem to take on the CL of the owner, if they are grouped.
There is also the possiblity that the CL26 Maruader wasn't exactly CL26.
I was hunting with my CL30 droid on both Live and TC and had not difficulties sitting back while my droid walloped on CL33 and below, with only minor healing. Heck, I even sent my droid after a CL45 and watched the droid take the mobs Health down by one-third, before the droid was toast, and I was running for my life.
I haven't tested it today, hell I'm discouraged enough that I have no plans to even login today, or any day after until they make some headway towards fixing all the things that they've broken with today's patch, but what I was seeing before was that the droid will fight at approximately the level of its owner whether or not the droid is grouped (and the droid's level represents kind of a "combat cap"). So in other words:
level 1 owner, droid fights at level 1.
level 18 owner, droid fights at level 18.
level 80 owner, droid fights at level 18.
If this is still the case, the only value one of these droids has is to a person who is, say level 15-25 or so. At these levels owning such a droid effectively doubles their combat effectiveness, but for everyone else a combat droid is an utterly useless waste of a datapad spot.
What level of character were you Drashk when you were testing this? I'm guessing > level 30 right?

I don't know when you tested this, but after the CU (bfore today) I did an extensive test. Level 1 crafter, grouped with droid and not grouped with droid. Level 80 combatent, grouped with droid and not grouped with droid. Droid dealt and received exactly the same damage.
This is also my understanding of how it is suppossed to work, I have never seen it otherwise. I will do the same test again.

Just for info my R3 combat droid converted somewhat differently to Drashk's suggestion.
CR630 (6 x 105) and 1 L6 armour converted to Armour Effectiveness 6000 on the first call, and should have been 9000 as I understood it.
Perhaps I misunderstood ?
I tested it last week. From memory I believe my probot had damage listed something like 30-120 and against level 8 creatures it did something like 40 damage. It also received around 300 points of damage per hit against such foes. I repeated this test both grouped and ungrouped, and sent the probot against the sorts of things I saw around kaadara. The conclusion I came to was that the probot was quite obviously fighting at my level (which is level 5)
I did not test the exact same droid, but a very similar probot that I had made I used with my level 71 character, and the droid did very well against things up to about level 25 or so. Anything above that demolished it.

We tested on TC-Corbantis as a cl 1 DE/Architect the probot was taking c50 damage per hit on it's own, grouped with me and it was taking around 700 per hit.
Seemed with this patch at least it IS taking on owner cl level when grouped (For reference when ungrouped it was con purple, when grouped it was white con (as normal with players in groups).
Ok as said before, I tried it again...
Same marauders were still there... Same AdvProbot..
This time NOT grouped (me CL5):
Adv. Probot dismisses the marauders. No problem....
So in effect, when grouped, the droid will get the CL level of the owner (? or the lowest in group? dunno didn't test that) instead of keeping it's own CL!!!!!!!
Note: I think this is the SAME thing that happens with the CH Pets!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm Level 1
My Droid is Level 30
The MOBs are Level 18
Ungrouped:
Droid does 273 (of 278) damage to the MOB
MOB does 67 (of 77) damage to the Droid
Grouped:
Droid does 64 (of 64) damage to the MOB
MOB does 607 (of 692) damage to the Droid
When the MOB hits me it does 692 damage.
Add to that, when ungrouped, the Droid can start doing less damage for no apparent reason (the whole "spitting" thing).
I can confirm that the droid deals less dmg and takes more dmg when grouped with a low lvl character - did this on TC and now live
as far as older droids, the conversion seems to be flaky
But ive crafted a few different new CL30's and they are quite effective. My personal one is a R3 with 1 combat mod, 4 Auto-repairs for a total of 97, and a storage mod. Its now named "SithKilla" (name filter wouldnt allow "SithKiller") since it in fact took down a sith
A guildie and i were at the rebel outpost on rori when he got jumped by the 2 sith - Im CL1, but i sent my droid after one of the sith and it was dealing a good amount of dmg - 116pt per hit, and since it was aggroed on my friend, it ignored the droid and the droid pretty much took out one of them. Sent it after various other mobs, and ive found it very useful.
I dont like the way we craft them now, but ther usefulness is far better then they were previous.
