Thread: Post Module Ideas Here
Droids are tools people. Right now us DEs don't have tools that can serve all the people. Data modules don't have a practical use anymore for Joe Blow. Item storage won't be worth anything either until it isn't volatile. That leaves repair, crafting, and medical modules to sell. Bitching doesn't help anything. Creativity is the only possible avenue for improving the class, and here is a place to spew your creativity.
I suggest the following modules be introduced...
Jukebox module : allows entertainers to heal outside of cantina much like medical droids work for Docs.
Weapon Modules: I think this is whats being developed already but if not, Probots should have different weapon packages available which other attack droids in future will use too
I don't understand why data modules haven't been fixed yet to hold a mission or two but for gosh sakes we need something to help sales and increase our market.
ASOE module, that allows you to totaly render a chara useless from 66M away, and while walking through town steals the credits from unsuspecting playersthen begins to laugh at them maliciously. MUHAHAHAHA.

Missions in the Data Module would certainly be great, considering the Data Modules now only store the amount of items up to their level (Level 1 holds one item, level 6 module holds six). Doesn't seem that horrid, and it'd make them useful at least until they put in those "extra data types" they talked about.
Here's some other ideas.....not all of them are my own, but they sure seemed good, so I'll restate them here and please note that some of these are not to be creditted to myself.
1) Sampling Module. Installable only in Astromech series and along with a Storage Module (maybe one that works), this will allow the droid to sample a particular resource over an area. It is about as good as the second-level of Surveying skill, going about as fast as a player does. However, the Droid has a limitted storage capacity, and thus a person can't just let it go and forget it for an hour. The Droid's storage must be emptied every 15 minutes or so, or else the Droid will fill up and then just stop sampling.
2) Probe Module. Installable inside the Advanced Probot only, this allows the droid to actually probe sections of the planet for various things. The search areas will break up the planet into a 5x5 grid, and you must choose a single box for the droid to go scout out. Early modules can scan for topography, while middle modules scan for structures and the highest modules can scan for the density of a particular resource.
3) Hologram Module. This was definately someone else's idea, but it is a neat one. It doesn't have many practical uses (since people can send mail messages instantly, rather than send a droid), but what it does is this: you click on the droid to "record", and then an overhead map with a square appears, similar to placing structures. You click on the area that you want the Droid to record, and then it will record the 30 second message. When a person "plays" the message, a small holographic image will appear, showing the blue holographic pictures of the recording, including motions and gestures. Words will be displayed in the text box as "The droid says, ". Like I said, it has no practical use, but it can be fun. Can only be installed in Astromechs.
4) Advanced Crafting. This module can only be installed in the Treadwell droid, and works like this: some schematics have particular components, as we know, and it's a pain to make those components by hand, and not get confused or screw it up somehow. With the Advanced Crafting module in the Treadwell droid, you can double-click the droid, and it will bring you up a list of your schematics. You double-click the schematic, and the Droid will automatically begin to make it. The droid will automatically choose the available resources, and if it requires components, it will check your inventory to see if you have the components. If not, it will check your datapad to see if you have the schematics, and if you do, it will make the component itself, to eventually complain the original item it was crafting.
5) Butler Module. Installable in Protocol Droids, Surgical Droids, and LE Repair Droids, these allow you to program set words and actions into a Droid depending on triggers. For instance, you can write a program into the Butler droid in that if a person comes within range, it will speak a greeting, say "Follow me", and then walk on a designated patrol route that leads them inside the house. There, it will say, "Please be seated, the Master shall be with you shortly", and then will walk back the patrol route to its post at the door. A limit to these such programs will be about three or so.
6) Advanced Butler Module. It does what the original Butler Module does, but also allows for the person to program speech trees, just like the NPC. For instance, they type in something like "Do you have any questions?" as an opening comment when a person choses the converse option, and then there's two or three choices. The Droid will have an answer for each.
7) Basic Defensive Module. Requiring a Shield Generator from an Armorsmith, when installed within a Droid this module allows the Droid to emit a lesser-density shield in a radius affect. It is not as effective as if you used a Shield Generator yourself, and the Droid loses power at an increased rate from running this generator, but the benefit is that it affects an area, and thus can assist a group.
8) Advanced Defensive Module. Requiring an Advanced Shield Generator, coupled with a rather high-end Droid, this hefty model creates an advanced defensive shield. The Shield is emitted from the Droid, and can be programmed to emit at a larger radius for an increased power drain. What the shield does is negate any ranged blasts; people can move into and out of the shield, but all ranged attacks, both from within and without, will be cancelled if the target is on the opposite side of the shield. To maintain the shield, the Droid Owner must be "focused" on controlling the droid and maintaining the shield, and thus to move or engage in combat themselves would cancel out the shield. Obviously, this is a strategic weapon, but may need some toning to get it into balance, but it is designed to protect against a particularly larger ranged attack force and perhaps help Melee players bring the battle closer to themselves. The Owner of the droid makes the sacrifice, as I said, because they have to actively be controlling the Shield Droid, and must also be feeding it batteries every so often to maintain the power. This may be kept as a DE-Only thing, who can say.
9) Data Module. I know that this allows the saving of Waypoints and maybe someday Missions or something else, but I think an Advanced Module should do more. I feel that an Advanced Data Module should allow you to store 10-20 "Books", in that each book you can title and insert a large amount of text. If anyone remembers UO, they had blank books that you could fill, and they were excellent for information, in-game guides, random fiction, etc.
Hey Buda .. not to hijack your thread ( I will only do it briefly) .. did you play DAOC on Percival Midgard? If so PM me.
Ok back to your regularly scheduled topic ...
I would like to see Medical Modules that require Medical Certifications to use.
Level 1 Medical - Novice Medic
Level 2 Medical - 1st Teir Medic
Level 3 Medical - 2nd Teir Medic
Level 4 Medical - 3rd Teir Medic
Level 5 Medical - 4th Teir Medic
Level 6 Medical - Master Medic
Or something like this.. it woud give a point to crafting the lower level modules, and give a reason to buy a new droid.
How about ...
Delivery Module... You would be able to load a storage module and datamodule with items and a waypointand set hopper permissions and wait time then send the droid to go to that location and wait for the wait time for the person to pick up the items then return to where it started from.... perhapse while the hopper is open the person picking up items could place items in the droid that the owner could then retrieve.
Drink / Food Serving Module... You could store up to say 4 drinks in the droid and the droid could be given the "serve" comand or "serve 1", "serve 2", "serve 3", "serve 4" and would serve the drink in that slot to the person selected. The slots would befirst item stored = 1, second = 2, third = 3, and foruth = 4.
My Thoughts on Sigmas Ideas....
Sampling Module... Cool idea... a sampling module paired with a storage module and data module that would sample would be cool. Basically allow how much it can sample to be based on the storage module level... maybee100 max per level of module. What the droid would sample woudl be based on the resource survey waypoint it was set with. The added benefit is that the droid would go to the waypoint and sample then return from where it started when full, you logged off, or the resource went to 0.
Probe Module... Not a bad idea at all ... I would say inserting a waypoint into a data module would cause the droid to probe and store info on a area like 100meters square around the waypoint would work.. then it would return to where it started... perhapse it would search the area and report a list detailing what if found... for instance you would examine it to see a list like...
NPC: Olen Baker (Rebel)645 -3789
House: Dolomite Droids Inc 645 -3897
Hamuaba Baby 645 -4803
Hamauba
PC: Jim James
More thoughts on sigmas ideas ...I accidentally submitted before ....
Probe Module... (continued) allowing this to be put in DZ70 and Advanced Probots would be ok by me...
Hologram Module... would be very cool, especially if it added something for entertainers, possibly a dancing person hologram or any number of preset things could like that could be added via a changeable chip, maybee backup singers for a musician etc... .
Advanced Crafting: I wouldnt use treadwells as they are clasified as repair droids in the SWG universe, I would instea dlimit repair modules to the LE and Treadwell droids.... and Advanced Crafting Modules I would allow to 1) give a crafting bonus.. I fail too much ... and 2) work like a schematic in a factory using stuff put in it ... with an output hopper that holds 25 total so you could make 25 singles at a time .. no factory crates and parts are non identical for identical parts purpose.... Wouls require a storage and data module as well....
Butler Module/Advanced Butler Module: I like this... the protocol sounds great, I would make the surgical allowed to heal people as one of the options... and the repair droid allowed to repair things.. for instance a person says hey there LE can you rapair my droid and the repair workd would trigger a repair attempt on the closest damaged thing ....or something like that....
Basic Defensive Module: Excellent, I would make the shield generator part of the module construction.
Advanced Defensive Module: Seems too complicated for this one..
Here is one more from me....
HAMModule: Increases either H, A, or M of the droid. Levels 1 thru 6 each is an X amount (uncertain as to how much maybee 100) This way a general droid cluster module could have H6, A6, M6 and proviude 600 across the board.
Offense Module (Ranged): The probot and DZ70 aboility to attack should be a module slot, level 1 to 6 and should be say 50 base damage up to 20 more per level so 150 at top end. These should be configurable via the expermintation and customization skills to match different damage types , likelaser etc....
Offense Module (Melee): Simolar to the module above this would add a melee style attack to the DZ70 or Probit they arms onb the droiud would move around striking the target.
Offense Module (Grenade): Grenades could be placed in a storage module on the droid and launched at a target by saying "grenade"... or macroing it as Iwould.
Ok thats all for now my brain hurts... hehe
