Thread: Droid Storage Compartments -- Bugged? (I hope)

Hi there. I want to take a moment to discuss the change to Droid Storage Compartments with this last patch.

The patch message states the following:

  • Droid storage compartments are now using droid experimentation rather than artisan.

  • Now, THAT change I agree with wholeheartedly. It needed to be there...

But there was another change made to Droid Storage Compartments that was NOT documented in the patch notes:

The experimental qualities now call for 50% Overall Quality, and 50% Conductivity. It USED to be 100% Overall Quality.

Why would this change be made? I honestly don't see what purpose this can possibly serve. I'm assuming this is a bug. Prior to the patch, I had been gathering resources to make several things. Mainly, crafting stations and droids. Now the materials which I Gathered to make these droid storage compartments are worthless. While the OQ is 999, the Conductivity is too low to make them effective.

There hasn't been any high conductivity metal (I'm talking 990+) in months. I realize that any metal with such a high conductivity is condidered very rare, so it can't spawn all the time... but to make this change suddenly and without notice does not help at all.

If any dev reads this, can you please let me know if this was fully intentional or a bug? And if it was intentional, can we get it changed back?

I have to ask, is this something different from the storage modules for storing items. I'm not a DE but I was jsut woundering what these are?

Yes its different, these are used mostly by architects in their crafting stations and in a few optional de components but master archs are by far the bigger consumers of them.

Would Droid Storage Compartment schems made prior to the patch be affected?

They shouldnt be as the schems have their experimentation values already tied to them.

It may (or may not) matter to a DC kit or a VC kit, but it makes a big difference to an Architect crying to build a high level craft station. I have several 100ks of OQ1000 steel for that very purpose, but the conductivity is around 200.

It matters, and its another stealth change. Both are reasons to change it back.

Could be that they are trying to bring DSC more in line with other DE components. When I craft parts it asks for OQ and Conductivity. Main reason I use copper instead of steel for my DE parts. Check some of your other DE parts and check.

    The problem is twofold...

    A) It was not announced at all in the patch.

    B) The DSCs don't even get used in crafting droids. They get used for other professions.

I think this has a rather negative affect on Architects who specialize in making high quality Crafting Stations. It's hard enough to find metal with high Conductivity. But trying to find some with high conductivity AND high OQ? Just to make a crafting station that has very questionable impact on crafting? That's kinda stretching it.

Since DSCs have no mechanism quality rating, why does it matter? I made some crap DSCs and some crap Control Units. I put those together with some sweet high OQ, high Conductivity copper and came out with 9 charge Vehicle Cust Kits. Experimentation came to about 95%+.

Come to think of it, the DSC may have had their composition changed to match the Vehicle Cust kits' 50/50 OQ/C requirements.

It doesn't matter a bit to droids, but it matters a great deal to Droid Engineers, particularly those who have stockpiles of resources saved up for various uses. It matters even more to Architects who, prior to this patch, were the primary consumer of Droid Storage Compartments.

It used to be that any old high OQ (990+) metal could make superb Droid Storage Compartments that Architects could use to make 43+ rating Crafting Stations. Aside from Weakem, which now sells for 25 CPU or more, there have been no metals of similar quality with both Conductivity and Overall Quality. EVER. (And for that matter, even Weakem wasn't 990+ in both stats.) This is a stealth nerf to Architects - they can no longer make the same high-quality Crafting Stations that they used to be able to make even if they use exactly the same resource.

I really don't care, personally, as I rarely sold Droid Storage Compartments before the patch. But it is most definitely a nerf and should be fixed for no other reason than they're screwing over people who had planned ahead for something unrelated to Patch 6.

Good..then it's a good thing that I had my alt sit down and make a few prior to the patch...

Why does a DSC need conductivity?

Why does a droid armor plate need conductivity?

    What do they conduct?

This really just burns me whenever I see this. Obviously cuz it affects me more, but "I really don't care, personally, as I rarely sold Droid Storage Compartments before the patch" is because the standard was so high in the first place.

And FOR YOUR INFO DE's, all those pre-made schematics MEAN SQUAT NOW! The station schematic will look at the base stats of the DSC's and if it isn't high in conductivity it will carry over this fact into the station. Pre-made schematics do NOT overcome this nerf.
