Thread: CHs Use, Create by Taming and SELL Their Pets. DEs Should Too.

The problem I have with this idea is it pretty much screws over any chance at adding to the crafting portion of the profession. If all you want is to be able to go into combat with your droids, then go pick up the DH profession, if you want to craft droids, pick up DE, if you want to do both, do both. The only thing combining DH into the DE skill tree does is limits both and screws everyone who wants one or the other.
It really doesn't, and I think this goes right to the crux of why there are a lot of DEs that hate this idea. Just because you have a cert to use a combat droid, doesn't mean you have to use it. Just because you can make something, doesn't mean you have to sell it either. DE is a tough grind. Making MDE is a feat that anyone should be proud of. Most of the template chasers that would come into DE as a result of the droids will not make it past the 1st or 2nd skill blocks. Why should they spend their time sitting around grinding out MSE droids when they would rather be out fighting. They won't like it and they won't stay. The grind to MCH is much more fun and they'll go back there first. It won't be any worse than the holo grinders and they will be off again.
I get the feeling that most DEs who want to be crafters only want to make money from droids, right? Either way, I just don't see it happening in a big way. If they were to implement the cert plan, yeah, we'd make a killing, but they're not going to do that. If they implement the DH plan, it will be a big flop because there just won't be enough content to keep people in the profession. Again, we'll be shut out of the market. I just don't see how we can have a steady revenue stream from combat droids. We need to accept the fact they the devs won't be implementing any cert system to allow more that one profession to use combat droids, we can move on and look to how we want it done. We can either give them to the DH class, or keep them ourselves. Those are the choices we have and we need to decide which we want.
Lets break it down: CHs can tame pets for free, essentially, their own form of crafting. They SELL these pets as mounts, charge extra to train for those who need it, and generally have made more money than DEs. On top of all of this they get to use their pets to giving them more damage and HAM combined than any other profession.
I saw we up DE skill pointrequirements to CH level and call it a wrap. Put some certs in Novice DE so that we can sell to dabbler and its all good.
The ONLY thing keeping the devs from doing this is the misperception concerning pure crafter. We want to be crafters, but we want to be able to use our droids. Hybrid DE, with upped skill point reqs, is the only solution that allows crafters to craft and those ho love droids to use them.

Sodan, how does this sound? http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=56671
Love it. Lets get momentum behind this.

I don't see why. It's all in how it's actually done (i.e skill box changes, etc.).
If all you want is to be able to go into combat with your droids, then go pick up the DH profession, if you want to craft droids, pick up DE, if you want to do both, do both.
Horse. Beaten. Dead.
It doesn't HAVE to be this way. I am very sure that it's possible to, say, get rid of the reasonably useless "Refinement" tree and fill it just like CM's crafting line is filled with combat items. Crafter DEs won't lose a thing. Nada. They will simply choose not to utility the content possible in the same way as other DEs. Those other combat-minded DEs would not, for example, likely worry about building newer utility options or working on droids with DL10 combat modules.
I'm starting to think that this might actually be one of the more palatable options, IF and ONLY if it is planned/implemented such that no DE 'camp' sees itself as "losing". We must all feel like part of our concerns are being addressed for the profession to be seen as moving forward in a positive direction.
The only thing combining DH into the DE skill tree does is limits both and screws everyone who wants one or the other.
Only if the Devs build it that way. If they build it to break, then sure...that'd happen. If they built it NOT to, then we'd all have some droids and enjoy them too.
Now, wouldn't THAT be something?!?!
Respectfully,
That's a load of crap. Unless they were VERY lucky and got a piece of the mount hysteria, Creature Handlers are not making much money.

Would you also promote the line of thought if we can build it we can use it for the BE's and Weaponsmiths? Be kinna nice to see the other crafting professions use it. Then all we would have are BE/WS with Bio Engineered Uber Pets and Flame throwers running around.
So what do you say about the CH class? They can "create" their own pets an use them. Droids are more like pets than they are like weapons. Creatures cannot be programmed. You gotta be a lion tamer to tae the lion.
Bottom line: If CH can "create" their pets(for free!!!) and use them, we should be able to build and use our droids. If you're going to reply with more "I'm ignoring the adanced brain and assuming a droid is an inanimate object like a gun" arguments, have the balls or the brainsto address the argument as to why CHs can create pets and use them too and why we should not be able to do the same.
Feel free to argue that CHs dont create pets -- we all know they "tame" them. The point is that they bring pets into use control with their skills just as DEs do. It cost them NOTHING to do so. If you're not a DE look up the resource and sub-component costs of a probot (especially the microsensor suite). In the end, there is a greater cost to DEs to create their pets.
The correct comparison is DE to CH not DE to weaponsmith. All other crafters do not make pets that are automtically usable by users. CH is a hyrid crafting class and it is a crime against th Star Wars gods that they can use and make thier pets while DEs cannot.
You fail to see any CH who wants to be in combat must own a Bio Engineered Pet. Any CH who doesnt want to waste points on high end People Stims MUST BUY pet stims. Any CH who solos now will DEFINITELY NEED Vitality Packs. AND ANY CH who tries to tame the MORE UBER of our pets will spends MASSIVE CREDITS for a TAME shirt. WHO MAKES THESE YOU ARE ASKING? Bio Engineers. Yanno what i gotta do if i dont wanna pay??? Learn Master Medic. Realize i can NEVER use my own high end pets. And turn any high ned pets lose once they are incapped one too many times. Soloing and individuality come with a price. Stop being a stubborn i want it all teenager type. If you want it all (and btw you only have 250 skill point you wont get it all) then use your SP.
For the record ive never asked for a penny from anyone on Valcyn for taming their pets, training their pets, mounting there pets. I spent the first 4 days of the pet patch actively looking for Greater Carrion Spats to give away to people. With minimum sleep. I questions what 100% of you will do when this comes. Your right we dont pay for resources to tame them but we also dont sell resources for 6-25 times what it cost to extract them. Ive done the math, it costs less than 1 CPU to mine resources. If any CH's do charge for time and i cant tell you the countless amount of times ive trained a mount or a pet and missed 2-3 shuttles while the first person i started training for hopped his and was at his destination already so please please dotn use this we charge thing against us, then say you charge an excessive amount for what bots you can make that work right now based on time and reources.
If any gripe should be made about fairness it should be that you dont pay more to extract the better you just charge more and get that for free. ITS EXTRA. The base profession to which you ARE a part of is artisan and YOU control the economy now. MINUS UBER drops like pearls, crystals, holocrons and milk.

Pluto, once and for all please understand DE is meant to be different. Its not supposed to be a carbon copy of any other profession, cos all professions are meant to be unique in some way. Thats the whole point.
Just cos you can draw parallels with CH/BE doesn't meant the DE profession has to follow that path. Nor should it, in the name of differentiation. Otherwise we would all be CH now wouldn't we.
Enough of the car comparisons...
and i notice Sodan you made no mention of the BE and the currently similarities between you and they as a crafting profession and how this fuzzy logic will lead to CH disappearing and BE's and DE's make and use their own bots. which reduces you still to making bots you have little market for, seekers arkyds and medbots.
