Thread: Droid Invasion Plan not really that bad?

From reading TH's post, I think the Dev's droid invasion plan has some merit. I put some thought into it and this is what I think they have in mind:

1. Everybody will have access to combat droids. That's what combat modules are for. Everybody canown anup to CL10 combat pet (droid or creature). This covers 'the combatdroids for everybody' that we have been calling for.

2. Droid Master. Yes, this is similar to Creature Handler. When the CH nerf came out, it forced CHs to be the only class that could use high-level creatures. Why shouldhigh-level droid usagebe any different?

Since the Dev's are going to do thier plananyway, we need to direct it and make it into something good. I think Droid Master should require the follow skills to obtain novice DM:

Master Droid Engineer

Ranged Support IV from Marksman

Master DMwill take up almost all available skill points just like the other elite and hybrid professions. There is at least one precedent for this idea, Combat Medic. This requires Medic, a non-combat class, and Ranged Support IV from Marksman.

Why have Droid Master at all?Why notuse the well thought out droid certification idea that we have put forth? I would rather see a dedicated combat class, than see our high-level combat droids spread out among the masses. In EP 1 and 2, we see high level combatdroids being controlled from a central control system, not from random individuals. A Droid Master can be that central control.

When a Droid Master comes on the scene, it should feel just like when you see a CH with a couple of kimos or grauls coming at you. You should be very concerned.

I'm a Droid Engineer, I'm disappointed along with the rest of you about the state of our profession.SOE is going to do this plan, so there is little sense in complaining about it. Let's move on, and make the best of it.

....

How many people do you think will use a "combat" droid with 45 HAM or 275 HAM? Many of our existing droids fit into one of these two HAM amounts. If people aren't using many flesh CL 10 pets with less than 1000 or 1500 HAM, then what makes us think they will use droids with far, far less HAM?

Not That Bad?

It most certainly is BAD...for us and for everyone else. Shortcut development always is.

I would hope that these combat modules increase the HAM on our droids. If not, then yes, this is a waste of time and effort.

While I Agree with the Ranged Support IV idea, I don't think this will pan out because of the MDE requirement. This basically again limits it to DE's having the combat droids, but paying for it will skill points.

However, I do think you are right that we are stuck with this idea since it has made it to the In Development forum.

I'm thinking more along the lines of ADV. BLL with level 6 armor.... now that would make a formidable tank.

Good point. Maybe they will use just one of the skill trees from DE. I can't see them using any other profession than DE to spin this new profession off. Which other one would make sense?

CH uses two lines from scout. Maybe this oneshould use the Engineer line from Artisan, and the Construction Techniques line from Droid Engineer. I don't think they should use the Blueprints line. Leave that one to the DEs who only want to produce utility and low level combat droids and don't want to get into combat droids. It would leave that market to the DEs.

Droid Master should not have to utilize an elite profession in order to unlock. If that's the way they do it then we're never going to be selling any high level combat droids.

Engineering and something else from one of the basic professions. I'm just not sure what.

I hate the idea of someone having to use the DE line in order to unlike Droid Master because, frankly, if you've got to do that why not just go full DE and make your own **edit** combat droids?

That= bad for the droid economy

I thought about it a little more. Maybe they will just use Engineering IV and Ranged Support IV.

This will leave the Droid Engineer to make the droids and the Droid Master to fight with them.

Good discussion, all

Shortcut development. That says it all right there. What other skills will the droid handler inherit from the creature handler? Train droids as mounts? Train commands? Tame wild droids? If I wanted to do all that I'd just become a CREATURE handler.
