Thread: Combat Droids Status
We got loads of utility module. (some completeley useless, and some usefull).
Take a look at the the sticky, I think there is still the list of all the new modules.
We still have loads of bugs.
Combat droid, we now have :
Probot : Damage dealer, 3.2K HAM
Rx : Mix, lower damage than Probot but 4.4K HAM
Le Repair : Very low melee damage 6K HAM.
All usable by everyone. But far from being uber.
They still can be the best tank for non-ch as we now have an auto-repair module that act like an heal over time for the droid.
Armor is now AR0 and 20% resist max.
they still plan to make a Droid Commander profession but after JTL (6-12 months) and higher end combat droids.

I personnaly think that a Droid handler is not starwarsy at all, that droid aren't ment to be fighters, and that utility droid is much better.
And I also think that adding new profession without adding new skill point sux big time. They already did it with Jedi, they'll do it again with JTL but only for the crafters, and they'll probably do it yet again for that Droid Handler insanity.
I don't want heavy combat droid, however, if they do exist I don't want to have a specific profession to use them.
Big droid war was in the past, Combat droid are now forbidden by the emperor and shoulnd't be all over the place. Even the DWB is too much.
I know no one care about the movie and the continuity so let's drop this argument.
Adding another prof without adding skill still sux, and making yet another copy-paste to make droid usefull sux even more.
And those in the Bunker can sure kill rancor, no doubt on that.
The fact is that the DEV don't want the DE to be able to use the droids. Don't ask me why, but it's like that.
So the only option if you wanna fight is to pick a combat profession, and with the current huge need of skill points to be a DE, you don't have much choice.
So, if they do add yet another kind of droid that I cannot use because I'm a DE, I'll be pissed.
And honestly, if the DEV come back to us and ask in the forum if people want the Droid Handler thingy, they'll probably have a big YES.
They made everything for it to be the only option we still have.
On a side note, Probot sell well atm. So yes, fighters use them.

- High end combat droids are what the player base wants to see.
- High end combat droids can not be introduced without additionalskill point cost.
- High end combat droids cannot be solely under the control of Droid Engineers.
- The Droid Commander profession will not be a copy/paste of Creature Handlers simply because the DE communitywon't let it happen.
- Star Wars canon is not an issue. The canon card has been over played and become a moot point the moment that the first person equiped a weapon more powerful than a Scout Blaster in front of a Stormtrooper.
- A droid is nothing more than a tool, weapon, or armor that can be used by the PC. Droids in SWG do not think for themselves, so this rules out the 'Everyone should have them' arguement. *See second entry.
When the criteria for the Droid Commander profession are released by the DEVs, I'll make more comments on the subject matter, which surprisingly enough haven't changed much from the last time that this subject was brought up....

The future implementation has no bearing on whatever fan-based proposal that may be brought forth; to assume we have any control over the matter is naive, at best.
Then call me, and TK (I'm guessing that he feels the same way since he has asked for an update on the matter), some what naive since the DEVs have stated that they are going to give a list of criteria for suggestions. Yes, I know that the DEVs don't always follow through with everything that they say, however this is one of those hot topics that will effect our profession in a huge way.
- Will we have complete control of what happens? No
- Will we have some say in what happens? Quite possibly
- Will everyone be happy? Of course not
- Will Doughbacca where hawtpants? /shiver

I'm just not that optimistic these days - I have seen proof to the contrary one too many times. I'm of the opinion that it has either been designed, or will be designed, internally, and that fan discussions on the matter don't end up having an awful lot of relevance until the very final stages of production (i.e. when it gets pushed to test). It's not about being happy about the decision or not, it's simply looking at the history of the past year and observing how implementations have been made in the past. I mean, it makes sense - they employ designers for a reason.
