Thread: Is harvesters maintenance a pain for DEs??

Reading recent threads abour combat droid, I've seen there is always someone complaining "he/she is tired of being killed when checking harvesters". And that makes me wonder... am I a weird DE??

I have NEVERbeen killed when travelling from one harvester to another, or when looking for resources. NEVER. First time I died was two weeks ago, defending the bases in my city (obvioulsy I had nothing to do against four players being a simple crafter lol... but it was funny). SO... being playing for 6 months the only time I died was in PvP...

So please let me know... do you often die when looking for resources? How often? Where? Why?

I have been killed on harvester runs, but that hasn't happened in a while now. Heck, I even remember that just barely north of Coronet I got nailed once by something a Ranger friend of mine had considerable trouble with.

Basically, vehicles make it quick and easy to do most harvester servicing these days, at least compared with what we used to go through. Back when there weren't even mounts, it could be tricky and annoying to do those harvester runs, depending on where they were. It's now more of a time sink than anything else.

Got it dead on, with vehicles it became a lot easier. I do wish there was a SINGLE place you could check on the status of all of your equipment that needs maintence. House, Factories, Vendors, Harvesters, the works instead of travelling to each one individually.

I don't mess with harvesters anymore, but even when I did I didn't have any problems checking my harvesters. With no combat skills my probot and republic blaster were more than enough for the occasional group of desert deamons hanging around my harvester, and if it was something I couldn't handle I just came back later or got a friend to clear them out for me.

I didn't die for the first 2 months I played, then I joined a guild and promptly died 4-5 times. Hmm... coincidence? Seriously though, I haven't died in several months now. Several things have contributed to that, I think.

First, I do have decent enough combat skills to kill most animals that might be near my harvesters in one shot. HeadShot2 from a high-end T21 will do 700-800 damage almost every time, and that's generally sufficient.

Second, better mobility through mounts and then vehicles means that if you're paying attention you're just not going to get caught. As long as you don't get knocked off your bike, which has only happened to me once, no NPC in the game can keep up with you and you can eventually just out-run them.

Third, I just have a better routine now. I'm used to tending harvesters and know what to watch out for on the planets I frequent, so it's pretty easy to avoid even getting into combat in the first place.

The Imperial Crackdown worries me, though, because the reports I've heard tell me that you can't "out-run" a scan. If you get selected, you're going to get scanned and there's nothing you can do about it. Furthermore, at least for an essentially non-combat character like Kollos, you're also going to get killed. I can take out a single StormTrooper if I can engage it from range with surprise... but there's no way I'll last against a squad of 8-10 who have me in their gunsights as close range.

I've died a few times on harvester runs. It seemed for a week or two a while back that the Maulers were camping my harvesters waiting for me. This was before vehicles/mounts, and I had used my burst run in getting to the harvesters, so I wasn't able to "run away, run away". Don't think I've had any mishaps since mounts/vehicles came out.

My trusty speederbike saved my life more than once. And I don't even have to get off the darn thing to check harvesters!

whenever I encounter an aggro mob near a harvester I enter what I call "engage and detour".

Basically i will buzz the mob and get him to follow me AWAY from the harvester, rinse, repeat, harvester safe.

I'm 3/0/1/2 in Scout as well (you used to be able to get GCXP for making camp kits), so /maskscent and a speederbike come in handy. I have a new carbine now, and with that and somestat foods, along with my master marksman skills, I can take out a camp of whites, and even solo a red or two.

It all depends on luck... when I was a n00b, I had a spawn of swamp cats on top of my harvestors. Died 5x cuz of them. LOL

and nothing ticks me off more than a lair that sits on a 90% patch.

I swear lairs lock off more area than anything else.

LOL... I hear ya. Then again, I have been grateful for lairs on more than one occasion.

I have shown up at really good resource spawns many times only to find a huge field of harvesters already in operation. Then I glance at the overhead map and notice that there's this mysterious huge hole in the field of harvesters... so I lope over to investigate and discover that there's a Gnort nest or something equally silly blocking the area.

Whip out the trusty T21, and a few minutes later I'm planting my harvesters a day late on the sweet spot.

I have discovered that there is virtually nothing that I cannot kill by myself as long as I'm outdoors and have my trusty speederbike handy. I took down an Ancient Bull Rancor on Dathomir just to see if I could do it... and I'm just a 1-0-0-0 Rifleman. All you need is a bit of patience and you can clear out those nests.

I usually can grab the goods out of my harvestors fast enough that I can take the hits from a couple Huurtons- Voritors always seem to get me tho, I think I had one hit me with knockdown or something once and sent me careening right off my bike- rather painful.
