Thread: Did I get taken?
Hi all..
I recently gave up my bio chem medic line so I wanted a new Droid.
My old one was a R5 with Food/Chem Crafting station and 110 med rating.
I had some extra cash so I find a droid engineer (Intrepid) ..not master but had one advanced droid engineer titles.
I asked him if he could make me a Repair Droid with a 110 Medical rating and storage.
Now I never told him the storage had to be 10... I made an assumption... My fault.
I get the droid and it has 6 storage.I mention it and he says he cant make 10 storage he can only make lvl 4 mods. I ask a friend who recently gave up master DE if that was right..
He told me that he can stack the modules to make it 10 storage...
I paid 30k for this droid...
Did I get taken? Should I have known to ask if he can make 10 capacity? Should he have told me?
Anyone on Intrepid able to make me a Repair droid chasie with 110 med rating and 10 stoarge?

If you don't give specifics to a DE they will make the assumption that you want the best they can craft. If he can only craft lvl 4 mods, then that is obviously what he would put in (unless you request higher, in which case a good DE would seek out a fellow Master DE for the parts).
However, the ability to group ALL modules on ALL droidsis a bug .. its NOT a feature. Not every DE, especialy recent novices, are aware of this. The cluster module (which grouping would require) is only supposed to be used on high-level droids.
30k is a good price for what you have.
You didn't get ripped off with the storage mods (in fact, some servers don't have the resources to go past level 4) but you did get ripped off on the price. 30K for an R5? Come on...Even with med 6 I can't imagine selling one for more than 10K.
Next time, shop around more. In fact, even though I think they are selling for too little, I see R5's with med6 and food/chem on the bazaar on Starsider for 3K. No matter what your server, 30K is way, way too much.

selling a R5 for 10k?!
Than how do we make credits...i only get 1 sale a day if that...
10K for an advanced R5 (with good modules) is not out of line, IMO.
It's not like an R3 droid or something...
The way my pricing structure works is an R5 with 110med/food/chem is more expensive than a R4! LOL
I've been telling myself to go over my prices... guess it's time for me to do so.
I've been playing with a pricing spreadsheet that works fairly well for me.
I start with raw resources, with a cost multiplier.
The trick though, is that I *only* calculate that cost multiplier for RAW resources used in my schematic, all other subcomponents are instead brought in as their already-calculated cost. I name the final MSRP field for each item (range name) to make it easy to use in formulas.
So for an advanced R3 chassis, for instance, I have my raw resource cost plus "=ADFU+(2*ADB)+MAPS+ADMS+DSP"
Makes it a piece of cake to calculate. I produce two numbers, 'MSRP' and my minimum sale price, which is used for friends and such. So I have a 'profit margin' field as a multiplier, and then a 'discount rate' field.
After all that scientific mumbo-jumbo, I think pick a number out of a hat, somewhere around halfway between my 'friends' price and my MSRP. I round up or down based on how I perceive the desirability of the droid.
