Thread: How good are droid crafting stations?
I'm a weaponsmith and I'd really love to be able to do some serious crafting on the go. I have asked some Droid Engineers about getting a droid with a weapon/droid/general crafting station, but all of them have told me "don't bother" and that they can't make one good enough.
So what's the story? How good can they be made?
From what I've been reading, they always count as private crafting stations, but I assume they just get a bad modifier of some sort due to the inability to do experimentation to improve this.
Should I bother to get a crafting droid?
Thanks,

I think the answer is: We just don't know.
We get a quality rating on our stations, which can go as low as -10, and being quite difficult to get above a low single digit number. Theoretically, with great materials and a string of amazing successes (or a full set of experiment points! :mad
we could push that up to a positive 10, I guess?
But I have *no* idea how this correlates to the ratings on crafting stations, and I've seen anecdotal reports that put them anywhere from awful to amazing.

Teev,
Private crafting stations installed in droids will not yield the same quality/effectiveness of 'installation' versions.
I personally feel that it's worthwhile to have the mobility. However, that comes at a 'price'. You won't be able to get experimentation/results as good as you'd get when using the installation version. Hence, there's a tradeoff.
If you're okay with this, then I'd definitely get one.

Respectfully,
The best result I have got is an 8 I believe but I could be wrong because I have not been able to get there in long time. Im not sure what the best result is on these crafting stations, I would like to know though. The otherissue is no one can prove beyond speculation that the station quality matters, its a huge debate. I have redone my stations and tools so many times, went from neg to high pos numbers and sometimes it seems worse than when I used negitive crafting tools.
Not a single dev has come forward to comment on this, its all speculation by players, which worries me that not a single person with authority has come forward to explain how it works or how it is supposed to work, and this leads me to believe its really **edit**ed.

Is this true? I rarley use my home station, even though its quality is 41.98 and my driods is lower. I havent ever noticed a differance between the home station and the one in my driod, wether its batteries or crafting stations, I dont pay that much attention considering there are very few DE parts were exp matters lol.
I agree with darthfodder: No one knows (probably not even the devs). The highest rating I have gotten is 3 I think, with my whopping 5 experimentation points, but how does it correlate with a private station in a house? Why are the numbers scaled differently? How does the crafting station quality factor into the formula for critical failures, overall success and stats, etc.? Who knows.
I say use a droid crafting station on the go; I've never felt it was any worse or better than the one in my house.
I can produce a4 droid crafting station with regularity and a 5 on occasion, but I have never been able to get any higher than that. I have never been able to tell the difference between one of my own droid crafting stations and my home station, which is a 23.
A friend of mine who is an Architect/Weaponsmith did extensive testing on home installations and could not find a significant difference between a -13 and a +23. (All differences he noted were well within standard deviation for his tests and were also insignificant in value.)
Of course, since I'm a Droid Engineer it's rather irrelevant to me, so I haven't bothered to pursue the issue.
Droid motive systems have mechanism quality.
Manipulator arm package sets have mechanism quality.
Droid brains have mechanism quality.
Droid weapon crafting modules have mechanism quality.
The mechanism quality you are all referring to is a statistic that is inherent to ALL DROID COMPONENTS.
In this regard, I highly believe it has absolutely nothing to do with crafting station effectiveness.
Rather my theory is that the quality of the individual parts effects the final product, and this 'mechanism quality' is supposed to have some outcome on the droids final stats - HAM, armor, movement, rate of vitality drain, SOMETHING - but it probably does not work just as experimentation does not work.
I would have to say that my home crafting station does work much better than my droid one (at least my med one). I am going to be doing some retest soon (I've started making the droid ones consistantly with 9's, I think I could get to 10 with a little better resources) but my home one (a 39 or so) gives me many less failures and more great successes.
