Thread: Fostering better DE communication or Why this DE forum needs a memory wipe...

Fellow DEs,

Things are going to change soon.

Work will be getting done. We will get some of the long-awaited focus for which we've yearned.

It may not be the work we ALL want to see (i.e. not EVERY little DE thing may or will be addresed) and we may have speedbumps along the way...but we can handle that. We're big, tall strapping DE boys and girls. We can take it.

I would emplore everyoneon the DE forums to stay upbeat, positive and constructive. It IS the way that we will get more and better Dev communication on upcoming DE changes and initiatives.

How do I know this? Let's just say a little gnorrt told me....

Please..............................please....................................please.

Everyone, stay positive. Stay constructive. Set aside jadedness, bitterness, frustration and animosity and give yourself a 'memory wipe'.

I will do my part to make this change. The once so-called "SnideMaster" will be setting aside the 'break-downs' (for now) and working to look forward and be a positive force for change.

I would call on any and all DEs (especially you old timers and forum veterans) to follow suit.

Give yourselves memory wipes so that we can "blow this thing and go home".

I think this is the key to future improvements. If all the devs get is negative feedback, they'll just stop trying and move on to someone who is willing to be constructive and cooperative.

I agree. I visit the Scout and Ranger forums often(my other char is a ranger) and they stay generally gripe-free. In fact I think there's a stickie on the Ranger forum about griping and how it is not tolerated. They stay very upbeat and optimistic, and honestly it seems the devs are more open to discussion with those forums. They may not be putting in changes to the 2 professions, but the devs keep more in touch than they do here it seems.

If you were a dev, who would you rather "listen" to? Someone that thanks you for what they have and asks for more? Or someone that gripes all the time and demands more? (that was a slap to you CH's as well... you seem to be as demanding as DE's in having change right now).

It doesn't matter if you've been waiting a week or a year, in the end it is the dev team who decides when and what to give you. You are powerless by posting thread after thread of gripes and whines. Really, all that does is give the devs a reason to not want to help you.

It would be nice to know what our boundries are. There have been tons of good-constructive posts here, but we have no idea what we have to work with.

Certs are beyond programming ability? or are they just not being considered even with the combat revamp?

New Utility modules can't give any 'bonuses' to existing skills? What is an example of one we can actually have so we know what they are looking for ?

I think most people are tuckered out with ideas because we have no idea what we can and cannot have.

Y'know I had this thought the other day too. Now that the multiple crafting station bug is fixed (or mostly fixed), and all droids can at least do something, I'm finding people are a little more interested in them. So I've been a productive Wook for the past several days, between making new vehicles & their customization kits, to actually doing some combat.

I've been using the same little R5 workhorse as my portable crafting station since September. I decided to replace him with an uber R3 which I painted all black. Looks sweet. People like him.

Yesterday I did the entire Emperor's Retreat mission. A daunting task for a crafter with no buffs. Actually, I did have buffs early on, when I didn't really need them. I'm still reeling over the fact that I was able to solo a 9400ham fambaa. Thank God for pistoleer skills! I got the cool new TIE fighter pilot's uniform and a schematic for an enhanced E11 carbine, and a schematic for a lightweight military pack of some sort. I can't wear the TIE suit or helmet, so it's on display in my house. The rest of the stuff is in my bank deposit box.

I guess my point is, I'm finding other things to do now that I don't have to spend so much time explaining to people why droids don't work. Storage droids are selling BIG TIME because items on a droid aren't searched by the Crackdown peeps. Three weeks ago I was ready to leave this game, which was out of pure frustration & didn't leave much room for the improvements that publish 6 DID bring, even if we were never told that our "droid invasion" got pushed back. There's a long way to go yet, but I think I'm more willing to see it through now than I was earlier...

Roger Roger, DoughBacca. I think we could have some good stuff coming along down the pike. However, Gribnitz raises a good point too. How can we get an idea of what our limits are, and what we really have a chance of getting? It might cut down on the griping if we don't bother ranting for things there is no possible way of having, dreams won't be dashed, hopes won't be crushed, and maybe some understand of WHY would be nice. Hopefully the devs have time to swing by and actually give us some solid info.

I don't think they'd just shrug their shoulders and move on. We ARE going to get fixes/changes. That much is certain.

We can do this one of two ways:

1) Be positive and have a chance to interact somewhat more with the Devs and get a lot of good/better feedback.

2) Be ranty and bitter and still get changes. We will get better communication from the team if we all stay upbeat and positive.

Again, this is not conjecture. I have it on very good authority that this is true.

Please............................................................remember this when you post. It matters.

I have been generally more positive over the last week or so, primarily because we've had some very, VERY public assurances thrown our way.

That's a step in the right direction, communication wise... so I'll return the favor in kind, and continue the positivity and patience.

However,I'll end this post by saying "fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me... fool me for the bazillionth time? Hell hath no fury!!"

I'd agree that this is partly true. It's pretty frustrating to have 100s of awesome and cool ideas but not have any idea of what is or is not possible (or under consideration).

I'm not sure that we can really ever get the kind of satisfaction that we'd like on this aspect of communication. We players outnumber the Devs on the order of more than 10000:1. Those aren't exactly good odds.

Certs are beyond programming ability? or are they just not being considered even with the combat revamp?

I do not think they ever stated that it was beyond their ability. I'm quite sure it could be done.

Certs were ruled out some time ago as simply taking too much dev time for the return on what was added.

Perhaps now that the higher-level combat situation is on hold, we might see them decide to take this on down the line. That's hard to say (but I doubt they will decide to do something that they've already ruled out).

Look at it this way:

If we could get a Cert system or 10 or 12 other 'fixes'/changes, which one would you want? It's a hard call. I think I'd rather see the number of issues go down. A Cert system might be in our future...just WAY off in our future (and would be a compromise that the DE community would have to live with...).

New Utility modules can't give any 'bonuses' to existing skills? What is an example of one we can actually have so we know what they are looking for ?

We may well see info on that in the coming weeks. For now, I would suggest that you check out the thread on cool new module ideas and latch on to an idea you like. Flesh it out and add some detail and flavor...in a positive and constructive way.

THOSE are the kinds of posts that will get Dev attention (and feedback).

Again...............................................this is not conjecture, folks. I know this to be the case.

I think most people are tuckered out with ideas because we have no idea what we can and cannot have.

Tuckered out or not (and I'm as guilty, if not moreso), we have to try to stay a positive course if we want to engage the 'strike team' on future changes.

It's as simple as that.

There is a time and place for everything....frustration and outcry were appropriate at the height of lost hope...but they aren't appropriate at this stage. We are at the edge of new hope.

Don't worry about limits. There's been 1000s of great droid-related ideas on these forums since launch. Do we think that every one of them is possible or even feasible? Obviously not.

In addition, it's pretty obvious (I hope) that they can't possibly respond to every idea...no matter how cool they all may be.

I would say...

If you a cool idea, put it out there. If it doesn't get a lot of 'play', it's probably not something that will be seriously considered for concentrated Dev time. If you DO get a reply, then you did hit upon an idea that they like and want to explore in more detail.

We will probably get some feedback from them on ideas that already have made the "We are considering this seriously" category.

I've been guilty of this in the past. You get a great idea, lay it out and detail it, give reasons why it would be cool/fun/worthwhile. Then, you get very little response. It can be frustrating.....believe me, no one knows that better than I.

Just keep on staying positive...that's all I can really say. "Stay on target, stay on target...."

Which thread or forum are we using for our new ideas, would it be better to put them all in one thread for the devs, or does that not matter? If you have time, I started a thread called under "Utility Droids???". Let me know what you guys think. Again, I am really into DE now, it is frustrating sometimes, but I like crafting the little buggers. Took me a while to learn, as I went to Master in about 7 hours, without ever crafting a droid, but I enjoy it now. I think I am even going to make a Power Droid, just for grins. I DO SO wish that I could put a repair module into a LE repair droid though. Lol. Take it easy folks.
