Thread: How important is Master Artisan to a DE?

The title pretty much says it all, but I'll also give a bit of background as well. I've been playing the game since it came out. Since the very beginning I have been interested in 2 professions above all others, Smuggler and Droid Engineer. Originally I made 2 different characters on 2 different servers. My DE fell to the wayside however, because all my friends were playing on the same server as my Smuggler and I don't have the time to devote to a second character becuase of school, work, and real life. Rather than pick DE up on my Smuggler though, I opted for combat professions, since I used him to explore the galaxy and do things like the themeparks (I had to be able to survive after all). Now that I've done most of these things, I've started looking at DE again. The recent improvements only put the decision over the top to me and I started working towards it. I mastered Artisan at first to be able to get my resources, vendors, and such. Also got to make my own X34 that I drive everywhere now even though my swoop is faster. I have now obtained Novice Droid Engineer and as a result I started to do the math on my professions. From my figures (which could be wrong since I'm an art major) I am going to be 6 skill points off of being able to master Smuggler, Droid Engineer, and Artisan).

I am now stuck in a quandry. I will definitely keep Smuggler until the revamp. I really don't want to drop it, as it's part of this character. I swore I would never dropSmuggler and worked towards it from day 1. However I also want to be a good DE. A friend told me that being a Master Artisan helps with DE as there are some items you can craft better. So the question stands, " How important is Master Artisan to a Droid Engineer?"

Master droid engineer is important, due to the number of MA parts required for many droids, but its generally not to hard to get someone else to make you schematics for thousands of parts. Its even easier if you've got a friend who's a master artisan that can get you the blueprints, but even without it only takes 2-3 minutes in theed or coronet to find a master artisan looking for a quick 5k. I've gone without master artisan since launch, and never really regretted it.

It's pretty important. If you have a good friend that can make you hordes of Master Artisan Parts you shouldn't need to worry about it too much though.

Well there are electronic components that are only available to craft as a MA, these are subcomponent of components for various droid modules (as confusing as that sounds im dead serious). So unless you have a good friend who is a master artisan who can supply you with cheap crates of the items, you WILL need MA. If you try to shop around and buy them from someone your wallet is gonna get mutilated. Many will tell you you dont have to worry about artisan you can always find one, but the first time you are so close to finishing a droid except for the crates of electronic memory modules you'll remember my words.

I think it is basically essential to be a master artisan as well....first off getting your own resources, second off, getting a vendor and third there are components DE's need that you have to be master artisan to make

Absolutely essential

75% of the droids you will craft, 90% of advanced droids, will require some sort of master artisan component - advanced droid brains requiring 4 EMM modules and 4 Electronics GP modules each.

But any of the high end modules (level 6 item storage, level 6 medical, level 6 data, level 3 maintenace) require a bunch of these parts too.

Most droids also require a form of control unit - also a master artisan component.

You wont be able to be effective as a DE without it or at least a Master artisan who is a good friend.

I do hate to be the bearer of bad tidings honey but...

Master artisan is pretty important to DE

Let me give you an example: I recently did (another) run of 50 surgical droids; they're only standard R2's with a level 6 med module; a level 6 storage module and a chem crafting station. For just 50 droids, you need 318 electronic GP's; 530 Electronic Memory Modules and 53 Control units, all of which are Master Artisan. You can get someone else to make you 1000 unit schematics but you'd have to do it for every major run of droids you ever build which is gonna get pretty frustrating. The decision as they say, is yours

Hope I haven't ruined you day flower (some crabbit muppet's made a good job of spoiling mine on the forums today )

Kisses

I am stuck in a similar situation, withhaving to give up master artisan to finish TKA (because I also want to keep my novice medic in tact). So what I was going to do was make a lot of the components I anticipate that I will need for my DE, which I've already mastered. I am also fortunate to have another MA in my Guild to help me. But if you don't have that luxury, then making as much as you can in advance may help you.

I would make schematics of the two electronics modules so you can make factory crates of them and the same with the control units. There are a few others under the electronic portion for MA that you will need too, off hand I can't remember unless I'm in-game to look at it.

Hope this helps you.

If you can get Friends to make you Schemadics, NEVER by your Crates, then its not to bad specally if you know more then one. However Droid Batteries are also a Artsin part (on of the few that make them money) and alot of people will goto you to find them and they can get upset when you tell them that a master Artisin can make a better one then you. I am a 4-0-4-4 artisin and using Max materials I could only make a 75% Battery and I got luky had 2 amazing sucsesses and nothing below a good succsess.

I would recommend you take Master Artisan and learn the ins and outs and get a feel for what you are doing, learn the runs you'll need. When you feel comfortable, drop Artisan if you choose.

Being new to DE without Artisan would just suck.

Also, you'll probably be paying more, one way or the other, having someone else do it for you.

As master artisan, make schematics for parts needed for droids.
Use common ressources or stock them.
Just make loads of shematics and save them.

Then, you can drop Master artisan without a problem.

Good advice is to wait to have some good DE skills before dropping Master artisan.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like DE is going to be a nice community to be a part of. Looks like I'm going to have to make a decision too. Going to start off talking to a good friend who is also a Master Artisan. Depending on what he says I"ll go from there. Probably have a lot of time anyway. It took me about 4 months after the game started to master my first profession

I'm pretty much on the same boat as you. I havedropped MA (4030 currently:smileysad and realised I need those electronic 'scehms' for DE(1001 so far). I am almost half way to MS (0430 i luv slicin':smileyhappy. I'm debating what to drop for DE skills...
