Thread: SOE Development Team, Some Answers Please...
JustG, 02-12-04: "You have all of our development attention now."
JustG, Runesabre, Thunderheart, et al,
First off, I'd like to express thanks to you for thework is being done to our droids and our profession. The implementation of the droid stim and the various bug fixes are most welcome. It's good to know that the issues that have been plaguing our profession since before launch are slowly being resolved. Once again, thank you.
However...
As a player and as a customer, I feel the need to ask some very difficult and straightforward questions of the development team. With the statement that your attention is being devoted towards our profession (and it is, as we all plainly see), I would like to draw that same attention to these questions. I believe many of your players and certainly every Droid Engineer in the game would like some answers to these questions. I am not asking these questions to raise your ire, to inflame the community, or to critique. I'm simply at a point where I'm pondering the future of the profession and this game. Many countless discussions have been held in and among your players and Droid Engineers yet, without context provided by the developers, it amounts to mostly speculation.
#1: What is the Developer's "vision" or "role" for the Droid Engineer profession?
#2: With the significant combat changes being made to our current droid chassis likely providing a foundation for a future combat role for droids, what method or system for implementing greater than CL10 droids is the Development team actively considering? It's understood that your system may not get implemented for some time, but a system certainly must be under consideration with all the changes being made now.
#3: With P7 wrapping up and the design stage for P8 approaching, what additional information is available for the utility modules scheduled for P8?
With sincere thanks,
-Virtanis
Fellow Droid Engineers, players, and friends: Please keep this thread civil and avoid any negativity. Thank you.

Hi Virtanis,
We are hard at work wrapping up publish 7, but don't want you to think you are being ignored. I am not prepared to answer any of the questions at the moment, but we will work with your new coorespondent to get some clarity on our direction.
thx,
- g

Can anyone explain to a non-DE what changes are coming in Publish 7? I've spent hours trying to figure it out and going to different threads and such, but all I've seen are a bunch of schematics which don't mean much to me. And the layman's speak that I've understood...it sounds like you guys can make lvl 10 combat droids...which I was under the impression you can do now?

Non-DE's probably won't see many changes with the "Droid Invasion". They've "adjusted" our Probots to make them in line with a BE non-CH pet, upped the HAM and dropped the armor. We will have the ability to make a few more droids combat-capable, the R-series (which many DE's disagree to in principle, and won't make them) and the LE repair droid.
Overall, you'll have the ability to pick from a couple different droids, if you're in the market for a CL 10 droid. You'll also be able to have both a non-CH pet and a droid out at the same time. And they've added droid repair kits, so you will finally be able to "fix" your droid when it gets damaged.
But be prepared to pay a bit more, if not double. They've made it much harder to craft combat droids (the Probot will take 20 or so subcomponents as opposed to the 9 or so it takes now).

I will keep this stickied at the top of my page and check back with JustG when the time is right.
Until then, please throw in some Pink Floyd and chill out, don't scare the Dev's off.
