Thread: Please explain to me how Droid Handler is a bad thing.
Who in their right mind would want to be a DH anyway? People who really like droids, maybe, but the DE/DH structure is not the same as the BE/CH structure.
A Droid Handler would be different from a CH in one very important respect -CH's can 'make' their own pets. It would be a sick joke indeed to give a new DH class Droid Crafting abilities, so they would be entirely dependent upon DEs to make their pets. If the best Heavy Droids are comperable to the best CH pets, Creature Handler is still just better. If the best Heavy Droids are better than the best CH pets, CH still has the edge from the lower levels, and if they're better than the best BE pets, then the Bio-Engineers have just been made obsolete, and the CHs can justifiably cry nerf.
Itmakes no sense.
I want nothing more in this game than more droids. I am a DE BTW. I want less creatures and more droids. Thats just Star Wars. I have no clue why Droid Handler is a bad thing for all of you. Im very confused.
A novice Marksman should not be allowed to control anything stronger than a level 10 pet. So how do you work around this? Either make a Droid Handler Profession, or Add Droid Certs like Weapon Certs. A DE cannot build, and use the most powerful things in the game too, why? Cause then *EVERYONE* will be a DE, with extra Combat Skills. The power to build AND USE a powerful pet is amazing! No way were the Devs going to allow this, no way!
Look at BE, and CH, if you want to make your oen pets anduse them...you go BE/CH its simple, eats up alot of skill points too. I cannot believe so many are against this, its sad really. Please explain to me why this is bad, why are you against it.
IF, read me: "IF" droid engineer were to dabble into a combat profession, I see no reason Droid Engineers should be able to use high power droids.
You talked about CH/BE...well CH dont need a BE creature necessarily. They can go to the forests of Yavin 4 and get a big snake with 11k HAM, or a nasty Spider with 12k HAM. Again, "IF" DE heads into battle, we should be able to use what we have access to create.
Besides that, I believe a DE would have the ability to control a battle droid which he creates, builds into what it performs... A BE has no control over whathis/her creation turns into. They might be a good scientist, but that does not make them a good parent to raise the little varments. ![]()
This is all assuming that droids will be as powerful as rancors, grauls, and those giant annoying lizards.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't smugglers both get combat abilities and crafting abilities? Or combat medics with poison? And what's with all those poisoning things that combat medics do? Hybrids can and do exist.
I think the big hatred is that the general population doesn't want to be BE or CH. there's already one entire profession set dedicated to that line of gaming, why have the exact same thing where the only thing that changes is the game models and sounds? No. People want this profession to be unique, and by cloning off another profession and 'taking the easy way out' it destroys that dream.
And that is assuming that DE only droids were to have been put in. If they went by a cert system that'd also boost DE in another way as our product would actually be of demand in the galaxy, rather than a niche profession that serves still only a few people.
And this is all without saying whether I'm for or against. These are merely the facts.
/agree to original poster
The DE'sshould not only think of themselfs. There is noway the devs turn the DE into a crafting AND combat profession. That would be very unbalanced. You also can't give strong droids to any crafters. That would be the same as to give them, let's say, pistol skills. It's all an act of balance. If something makes things unbalanced then it won't happen.
When you propose something you should not only think how something changes "your" profession. You should think how something changes the hole game.
Whoops, accidentally wiped out half my post before hitting 'submit.' insert between first and second paragraphs:
"Droids can be kept on a scale to make them powerful enough to survive in combat, but not as powerful as CH, which is an entirely dedicated profession. Not that we aren't. We already have to effectively master Artisan first, and we have far more dependencies than any other crafting profession out there. We're in effect a dual-hybrid profession, rather than a three-tiered one"
I agree!
I dont know why a DH-Profession is so bad for the game.
Sure, we ... the DE-Community dont like it .... but its better for the game-balancing
I do not aggre with your arguements about BE/CH.
The CH still can CREATE (tame) AND USE one (or two) combat-pets.
Thats not fair ... but will never be nerfed. Well, Life is unfair and hard !
I am still in hope for more details from TH.
/sigh
Im still waiting for a Valid Reason why this hurts DE.
All im getting is "I want DE only droids" that way you become a BE/CH all in one. Well....why would someone be a CH if this were to happen?
Smuggler and Combat Medic are Combat Classes. But you knew that, yet you still bring it up like it has any meaningin this at all.
Ok...here is my reasoning:
(1) The droid handler profession is totally retarded, and totally contrary to the Star Wars universe. Droids have AI, they do not have controllers, handlers, or joysticks. They are their own independent beings. So, this idea is totally contrary to everything that this is star wars.
(2) It doesn't do anything for DEs. Currently, the only thing DEs can sell is a one-droid-does-all droid with every module the owner needs. Sure some people buy multiple droids, but not because they use them (just because they look cool). Additionally current droids don't decay in any way, so once the owner buys that one-droid-does-all droid they neven have to buy again.
What DEs asked for is combat droids that everyone can use, probably based on a system of certifications, and that can be destroyed. The result of this would be to provide a large, renewable market for droids.
Instead TH stupidly misrepresented to the devs that we wanted droid handlers, thereby limiting the market for new combat droids to a small class of players, representing probably no more than 5% or so of the total player population. Making 5% of players buy a new droid in the unlikely event that their droid is totally destroyed is so inadequate of a solution it is laughable.
(3) Because we already have a CH profession. Devs had the opportunity to give DEs something really special and unique and they blew it.
It's simple, really.
Think of how many creature handlers there are in this game. Tons, right? How many creature handlers are there in the Star Wars movies? There's Malakili, the Rancor Handler. Who else? Maybe one or two controlling the critters in that scene of AOTC. That's it. There are no more.
How many Droid Handlers WILL there be in SWG? Tons, right? How many are there in the Star Wars movies? There are the droid control ships that are controlling VAST ARMIES, but other than that, ZERO. They aren't necessary unless you're controlling stupid-large numbers of droids. And that's not just in the movies: that's in all the literature, the games (except this one), the comics, all of them.
Granted, droids take people to build, repair, and upgrade. That's what droid engineers are supposed to be now (minus the upgrades, which sucks and should be corrected). If we move to a DE/DH configuration, we're still stuck building two classes of droids: Crafting Station Droids and Combat Droids, ignoring the multitude of droids seen in between. Droids are meant to be everyday assistants to EVERYONE, not people who have trained to deal with them. If we can't have OMG UBAR combat droids, so be it. We're not in it for those. We're facking trying to be of help to everyone, and we aren't. Why aren't we?
Because we CANT, because nobody in control of this stuff wants to take the time to work out modules or even specific droids to handle a wider array of skills.
Is it just cooincidence that every one in this thread pulling for DH has made less than 200 posts on the boards? I am for everyone speaking their mind, but, folks we have already gone over this crap and EVERYONE, but YOU, dislikes the idea ofa droid handler.
I think the right questions is "What the fizzuck are you going to fill four skill trees and 18 skill boxes with?"
I know! Maybe DHs will be the only ones able to program droids! God knows the rest of us DEs are apperantly to stupid to know how to use the complex droids we create.
This is really awesome: We make them, but we're too dumb to tell them, "kill". DHs use them, but since they don't need to even attend high school they can command them no problem!
