Thread: a doc's opinion on the new medic droids.
I'm a Doc on Starsider, and I'd just like to share my experince with the new "stim-bot" droid mod.
now, anything I say that is negitive is in no way directed at you guys, you didn't design the damn thing.
first of all, I can only put in 20 or 30 stims in it, and that seems to be a hard cap put in by the devs. 30 Stim As last about as long as it takes to blink. (they heal for about 100 points)
second: to use the droid in combat, one must be grouped with it, select it, then /requeststimpack. not a terribly big deal, but in combat, Id much rather just hit one key to get it to work. selecting it from the group then hitting the hot key takes up valuable time. a second in battle could mean life or death.
third: Stim As.... worthless, even when I was but a wee little medic, I didn't use these things, I hopped straight to Bs. no one uses As, and there is a reason for it. I presume the devs made it only use As to keep us medic types in a job, but the thing is, A's are so weak, they are almost laughable. I can tell you that alot of the docs out there were looking forward to having a little buddy helping them heal comrades, this is not the droid we were hoping for.
fouth: it will not save you from an incap, you can't get it to heal you if your KO'd, so, whats the purpose of a medic that wont heal you in your time of need?
I ask myself this question about this specific mod:
"in a galaxy full of people who use Stim Bs (3 to 4 times stronger than an A) what good is a medic robot who requieres a medic player to operate and can only heal for the fraction of ammount of most any player?"
I'd love to hear what you all think about this. but just try it out in combat before you pass judjment.
btw, I love the new combat droids, better than the pre-nurf ones. congrats to you all.
I think that you are looking at this in the wrong way. Doctors are saying this is useless. Even novice medics (those with the good Stim Bs) will probably say this is useless. But the target audience for this isn't doctors at all - it is players who don't keep novice medic. They are the ones who will really tell us whether this is useful or not (and whether tracking down someone with the appropriate medic skills to load it is too much of a pain).

As are made with two components, a organic, and an inorganic. no subcomponents.
I made some As specificly for my droid, using 900+ OQ materials, and I got 94 heal, 12 charges.
I keep trying to think about the targeted player for this mod, the best I could come up with was an entertaner. (who most of the time can get healed by most people in their audience) and the new player. As a new player, I think I would figure out real quick that a combat droid would be alot more helpfull than a healer. It would give the NPCs something else to shoot at.
I really honestly wonder if this droid has been field tested with positive results.
and if its something else? Ive never heard of them.
No offense, Nematocyzed, but I don't think you (Doctors) are the target audience. I think I'm closer to the target audience because I have no medical abilities whatsoever.
What this droid does is give me a way to heal - even if it's just a tiny amount - in between fights. I don't think it is supposed to replace a real medic or doctor in any critical situations.
I could see you using it during down time between fights as well to top off group members who can't make full use of the SuperStim-Z++ that you're carrying for combat use, too.

well i ment 100 base heal was an uber a, as in thebest possible A. I remember when i was a newb and they were a base 20 or 50 lol.

There might be some sales to soloingnon-medics as a downtime reducer with minor combat benefit.
Onebig limitation is the capacity. A 600X100=60,000 point capacity isn't very big to someone buffed up to 3000 on each HAM. If they are really needing those buffs, that implies only about 10 fights. The healing speed addition isn't very impressive either when you have those fully buffed secondaries going.
I suspect that they are another twink only item just like the combat droids. Useful to newbies (and crafters), but real newbies can't afford them without a sugardaddy.
They might be more competitive than combat droids are against non-ch pets. The competition here is buffs, and a crafter probably isn't going to want to spend the time or money to get buffed before a harvester run where he has only a small chance of needing it.
I think the most sellable configuration would either be a 6 module A-R3 or a 5+1 storage for the guy who needs the carrying capacity.
Oh forgot one more point.
In order to use the stim dispenser the master of the droid must have pharm 4 under medic.
