Thread: Greed The real reason why some want to keep DE a so-called pure crafter class.

Let me cut through the smoke and BS and lay bare what the real objection are to the CH like features being proposed.

A desire to keep the numbers of DE's down and therefore the prices of droids inflated. The "pure crafters" aren't really concerned about a new influx of DE's attracted by the CH type features and some imaginary damage to the class they have cooked up. They just don't want an influx of part-time crafters who will most likely undercut their inflated prices. They aren't conducting argument here for the good of the DE class but are arguing for the good of themselves. They are more worried about their in-game pocketbooks than they are about making DE a good and fun class to play. Put what they are saying into a BS filter and all that comes out the other end is pure greed.

Well, I'd rather not be filty rich in-game. I don't mind competition and in fact, some of my competitors are friends and the competition is kept friendly. I'd rather have the option to take my character out of the shop now and then and get a break from crafting. Explore other parts of the game and thereby keep it alive for myself. I'll be around long after most of these "pure crafters" burn out always doing the same thing over and over and cancel their accounts. Have the CH option in the DE profession standing by will be a relief in times when I need to do something different. Have a little adventure and do a little exploring between crafting binges.

And too all those who say go train a Creature Handler, I say no. I don't want to. First off, I don't like creatures. I like droids. And I'd be switching back and forth too often to make retraining practical. Go play on CH on a different server? Sorry, no. My friends are all on Eclipse and I'm only allowed one character there. I want the versatility to do what I want, when I want with my one character on that server. And I want to be able to go with the gang without being the fifth wheel. With a DE-only combat droid as powerful as a master CH pet, I'd be able to pull my fair share of the load. And yes, I'll sometimes be out soloing. Cause sometimes I want to hunt when others in my guild are busy doing other things. I want the flexibility to do that too!

There isn't going to be any compremise solution here. The devs are just going to have decide between those who want more fun out of the DE class and those who use the DE class as a means to feed their greed.

I haven't gotten to the point where I sell my droids regularly since I can't make the best modules, but is it greed to sell the droids that are at the pinnacle of our profession for 18k? That's the most I've seen R2 and R3's go for on my server with level 6 modules. I don't think 18k is greedy. I've even seen some for 13-15k.

I came to this game because I wanted to be a pure crafter. In DAOC, where I was a longtime fletcher, you had to enter rvr to advance your character. There were no pure crafters. I like that in this game you have to choose to be a combat class or a crafter. If yougo hybrid you can't be great in either field. I want tokeep it that way. I also want to make a decent living without having to domissions. If you make a combat hybrid class like creature handlers, EVERYONE will want to be a droid engineer. I mean, why play Star Wars if you don't like droids? It's infinitely cooler to have a battle droid than a graul mauler or whatever it's called.

So for me it's not greed. I just want to have a market where I can get by without having to do missions. I want people to become droid engineers because they truly like to craft droids, not because ofbattle droids.

The people who wantexclusive combat droids say they arenot hurting crafter droid engineers by wanting that type of playstyle, but you are. By attracting so many people to droid engineering you seriously hurt our market.

If you want combat skills take up a combat skilltree like I've done with rifleman. You have the points. Use them.Give us combat droids, but not exclusive combat droids.

Arden, you are so right - its about greed and limiting the competition!

With any of the combat droid proposals, a crafter need never leave his crafting station if he doesn't want to, thus remaining a pure crafter. Likely several would wish to do that. Not me though

For those of us who want to get out and have fun with our Droids, well enough has been written elsewhere. I too want to be around when the pure crafters leave, as so many already have from the so called 'pure' crafting professions since launch.

This class is above the Artisan tree.. CH is above a combat tree. Case CLOSED.

As to greed, you are right in the sense that I want to make money building droids. If you don't like that you shouldn't be participating in an obviously capitilastic economy such as SOE. I can't say this is true for every artisan, just like in real life there are some that accept poor pay; however, the foundation of this economy is the pursuit of profit. Like every other profession above the Artisan tree, Droid Engineers are in BUSINESS. If you make Droid Eng like a CH style class there will be NO ADDITIONAL MARKET for droids as everyone able to use the new combat droids would be able to make them as well.

I'm sorry you don't see things my way and I agree that fundamentally a decision must be made between the two conflicting roles. Ultimately, I hope the dev's follow the obvious answer that DE's are not combat characters.

There is more than one kind of greed; besides greed for money, there is also greed for power.

Neither side has squeaky clean hands, and no oneDE has the exact same motives as any other DE.

It has nothing to do with greed. I've been on my way to DE since launch, and I just broke 500k credits last week. Most of that was selling off extra resources, ranged powerupsor, just recently, batteries (which any artisan can make).

DE should be purely a crafting class because it takes ONLY crafting experience to get there. It's not like DE's have to be battle tested.

Also, droids should be useable by anyone. It's not like you need special training to tell a droid what to do. They are programmed to obey orders. DE is not a "handling" class, it's an ENGINEERING class. It's not like structural engineers (IRL) have knowledge of how to USE a bridge better than the rest of us.

ROFLMAO

Go whine somewhere else, Arden. You're the one who wants to fundamentally change our profession and make it into something new.

We are a crafting profession. Yes, we could be changed into a combat profession, but they could also add crafting to Bounty Hunters and make them a hybrid also.

There are a ton of ways that Droid Engineer could be improved without turning it into a combat class, but some of you just refuse to listen. You seem dead set on obtaining your precious Droideka and you just don't care how badly you screw up the profession in order to get it.

This is such GARBAGE

I am a DE and a Master Merchant, and I make much more money reselling things for people and stocking a resource vendor that I've EVER made making droids.

I get about 4 droid sales a day MAX, my prices are the lowest on planet, I paint free, I give 2 free 4 use batteries with the purchase if I'm in the shop. Its a very popular shop. I dont make droids to make money. If it was about greed I'd play another crafting class, ANY other crafting class makes more money then a DE (chef...ok maybe not)...

I agree we need a better combat droid, but not DE only. I give a rat's rump about fighting. I play this game to tobe a droid engineer, not some half pet combat class. I don't see the architects, armorsmiths and chefs asking for class only buildings, food and armor. What makes us (you) so special?

Maybe you should drop the DE Arden and work up that pistoleer tree....

In so many of the threads about combat droids I see a lot of the same arguments from the pure crafter camp...

"It will attract dabblers"

"It will attract too many new DE's"

"They will dump their stuff on the market cheap"

I'm beginning to get the impression that the real issue (at least for some) is not whether we get combat or specifically DE only combat droids or not. It seems to me they fear attracting new players to the class. I have a simple theory for this....DEs are very rare currently. Since we are so rare we can basically charge anything we like.....

and we do...

If something were to attract new DEs then there would be more competition and we would have to come down a LOT in prices. I don't think there are any DEs who can honestly say droids are worth some of the prices we charge for them.

Yes, I said we in this thread, I'm guilty of these prices too, I can admit it, can you ?

Not in my case. The only nerve he's striking is the one that makes you wince when someone drags their fingernails down a chalkboard - he has posted the same basic rant over and over so often that it's getting very grating.

I sell for the lowest prices that I know of on my server as well. 12k for a fully armored Probot with 10 spaces of Item Storage is a pretty good deal. I'm not in it to make money either - I just like making droids for people and so my prices reflect what it costs me to keep doing it.

Virtually all of the profit I have made has come from selling resources, not from selling droids. If I wanted to get rich, I'd get rid of my factory and house/shop so that I could plop down more harvesters.

Those of you who want to turn our profession into something else just don't get it. We're not afraid of competition - in fact we'd welcome it. We're afraid of becoming just the next target in the bullseye of the nerf bat because we've been turned into an overpowered combat class.

(And if you believe that the devs are going to be able to do combat droids and a cert system right on the first try, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you in Brooklyn.)

Arden, I don't know what's in that crack pipe of yours, but it's not good quality stuff. Perhaps if you took the blinkers off and actually read the opinions of those that are different to yours you'd lay off the conspiracy theory BS that you and Droid-Creator keep spewing forth. Look at the number of threads started by you two, versus the number started by those that wish to keep the class as it is currently. See the difference? They don't feel the need to ram their opinions down everyone's throat every half an hour by starting yet another thread on the same topic. Just lay of the pipe, it's not doing you or your opinions much good other than looking like another cry-baby that just wants to shout their opinion above everyone else and bash them into submission. If you can't have a meaningful debate without laying into heavy consipiract theories, don't post.
