Thread: Let's Go Do The Hop -- Using Hoppers for Item Storage
Both the input hopper and output hopper on a Factory will hold items without fail, at least from what I have seen. I have 6 Factories that I have been using to store various parts, left over furniture, and even some resources for months now without losing a single item.
The Input hopper on a Crafting statoin will hold up to 100 items without fail; however any items placed here count against the maximum number of items that the house can hold.
I use both the factories' hoppersand my crafting stations' hoppers for crates and resources. I share a house with a weaponsmith, and he gets real cranky if I accidentally use his codoan copper to make a personality chip, so the hopper on a station of my own is a good way to keep resources and crates nicely divided.
What I dislike is that I still have to pull the crates out of the hopper in order to craft with those items. If anyone has any tips/tricks for crafting with crates in the input hopper, I'd love to hear them.
What's the deal with this? Does it work? It seems I can use my factories input hopper for storage; I just permanently keep the ocean of GP and Mem mods I need in there.
What about factory ourtput hoppers and crafting station input hoppers? Is it safe to store items in these hoppers? In which hoppers is it not safe to store items?
I have a second house I use for storage purposes, though.
There is currently no way to use factory crates directly from the input hopper. It's not ideal, but the only tip I have for working with crates and input hoppers is that you don't have to think to move crates into your inventory beforehand. Uncheck the "Filter Items" box so that the factory crate becomes visible in the Input Hopper list. If necessary, press "Change View" to switch to the Icon View. Then drag the desired crate up and, while still holding the mouse button down, hover the mouse over the "Inventory" tab briefly. The view will switch to your inventory and you'll be able to drop the crate in, immediately use it, and then drag it back to the hopper the same way. You won't be able to drop the crate over any other inventory icon (which is why you specifically need the Icon View rather than the List View), but the width of the inventory display will almost never be an exact multiple of the width of a single icon, so there will almost always be a little space at the right of the window where you can drop the crate.
The only problem with the Factories is if you fail to pay the maintenance. Then if the factory goes 'poof', so do your resources. But I store a lot of my resources in both the input and I will leave factory crates in the output hopper until i need them. No extra cost for the factory, but if I move them to my house it increases the items stored there.
However, I have been storing most of my resources in various backpacks. I have one labled "Droid crafting" that I can /equip and take with me to craft droids on the fly. Another labled "Crafting Resources" where I keep extra supplies and other resources. As each backpack can hold up to 50 items, this makes it easier for me to just drop one, then /equip another one to use with a factory run, crafting, or resupplying my vendor. I plan to make another backpack labeled "droid frames" to store advanced frames. But you are still limited by the house rules for number of items, and those in the backpack count. This just makes it easier than having stuff all over the floor.

I dont want this nerfed so don't spread this around.. I use a vendor on a house with a 100k access fee and put all my items in bags and store themon the vendor. Yes you have to reload the vendor every week but it can hold unlimited amounts of items.
The fee is just to access the vendor?
