Thread: Slicing Modules?
Anyone else think a slicing module should be made available?
I mean, particularly for R2 units. R2D2 was always the droid for bypassing security and the like.
I wouldn't propose allowing them to slice equipment, but I could totally see droids unlocking things for you or slicing a mission terminal.
Yes I could see this. I could also see a droid or droid modules being sliced fo some sort of improved functionality.
Sounds good to me.
This is a must. I think that a componet of the module should be designed or created by BH.

Why Bounty Hunter? Why not Smuggler?
I don't believe BH or smuggler should have anything to do with it. They aren't crafters after all, aside from the spice thing.....
But a slicing module....beautiful idea! It has been my contention all along that droids should assist or compliment other professions. The only working item of this nature is the Medical Module, but more modules and/or droid types should follow along these lines.
Unfortunately, the only idea I can come up with for MSE droids is as furniture or decoration. I mean, what did they DO in the movies aside from run around as "background'? I think MSE deeds should be usable only in a structure and, once activated, move randomly thoroughout the structure. The Emperor's Retreat is a good example of this.
The other big problem is Protocol Droids. They could be able to be programmed to say something, which would be useful for politicians and merchants of all types. You could make them into "clapboard carriers" to stand outside of bazaars and shuttleports to direct people to your vendors. Another option would be to give a mission payout bonus because you have a protocol droid to prevent "faux pax" in the negotiations....
But this is definately the direction the Dev's should be looking. If droids benefit everyone, everyone will want droids and the world will be a Star Wars-ier place.....

Personally, if they hadn't made languages so easy to learn, protocol droids would have been perfect recipients of a translator module. It would allow them to interpret for wookies and so forth.
I couldnt agree more.
On the topic of droids which could assist other professions... take a look through "Star Wars The Essential Guide To Droids".
Slicer Droid - "During the Galactic Civil war, the Rebel Alliance used as many slicer droids as they could lay their hands on, allowing them to monitor Imperial troop movements and sabotage entire logistical networks through the release of crippling computer viruses." (Assist smugglers)
PD Lurrian Protocol Droid - "A standard AA-1 Verbobrain served as the droid's intelligence bank, with sixty percent of the language programming removed in favor of an extensive library on genetics and DNA resequencing." (Assist BEs)
Other ideas for droid and the roleplaying groups:
- Let a data module in a protocol (or any "talkie" droid) store a "conversation". Many RP groups would like to have static NPC for quests and such... this would provide them with one. Heck, I would love a "Droid Q&A" one in my shop!
- Under "Espionage Droid" in TEGtD, "After all, anyone can stick a data recorder in a droid's chest cavity..." How many RP groups would not LOVE to be able to record holo messages for later playback? While it might take a bit of work, I could see the droid's owner targetting someone/thing, giving the droid the "record" command, and saving a *limited* set of gestures, emotes, and spoken items from the target which could later be played back as a hologram.

Actually, MSE's are used for several purposes, though you have to delve into the Expanded Universe to get much info. They were used as a sort of mobile security camera in installations, sending video images back to a central computer. They are also used to access small areas that an R2 unit can't enter for minor repair jobs, because for some reason the Empire loved to make crawl spaces that only an MSE could enter. Sort of a chicken and the egg issue.. which came first, the small droid or the small crawl spaces?![]()
