Thread: Proof the devs STILL aren't listening...

Quote from Stratics Chat:

*MrJaffo* now that vehicles are in and allmost working :0 Is there any info you can say about 'the DE plan' other then we are working on it.. time frame or combat droid types maybe?

*Just G* We are going to add weapon capabilities for existing droids, as well as some new combat droids, in the first quarter of next year. We are going to be devoting ALOT of energy to Droids.

I think the highlighted portion shows that devs STILL aren't listening to a **edit** thing DE's said... Didn't we shoot R2 and 3P0 units with blasters down? Didn't we tell devs we wanted new frames because regular droids never had weapons in the movies?

I think this quote shows that devs are going ahead with their original "give all droids guns" plan and just adding a frame or two. I find this disheartening...

You know, this really couldn't have come at a worse time...

Now that Sin is gone it will take 3 years for TH to pick a replacement. By then devs will already have the system implemented, and will refuse to listen to any further feedback or make any changes because they spent valuable time implementing it.

Most likely its old code that was not finished, and in the style of "fix it later" what the devs told us BEFORE asking what we wanted is what we are going to get. Its the fastest way to push something out.

Why do it right the first time when its easyer to it halfassed in the same amout of time?

We definitely need TH to move fast on a new corrorspondant.

Not to be rude or anything, but we don't have time for a "period of mourning" with Sintrosi leaving.

If we are going to get anything accomplished via our input, we need someone to actively champion our cause like Sintrosi always did.

Gribnitz answered in the same way that I was going to. To me, that makes the most sense - modules that are the duct-tape-weapon-to-R2-head thing for the low-level droids, then the serious combat chassis after that. Unlike popular opinion, I actually like the idea of a combat module for ordinary droids. To me, that adds quite an element of surprise to combat. See that doc over there with their 2-1B. Is that really a medical droid, or does it carry some hidden firepower I'm not aware of? Interesting, it's packing armour too.. I might have to be more careful.

I can't believe you are saying this... A flimsy 2-1B packing heat? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard...

Here is what makes sense:

Basic Probots, Assassin Droids, and Battle Droids (roger rogers) that are usuable by EVERYONE and have weak combat power.

Advanced Probots, assassin droids, battle droids, and droidekas that have much more combat power, and are only usuable by advanced combat professions through a system of certifications.

Moral of the Story: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE R2 UNITS WITH "FREAKING LASER BEAMS STRAPPED TO THEIR HEADS" (Austin Powers) TO CREATE 2 CLASSES OF COMBAT DROIDS.

Come on people, this isn't that hard.

I'm hoping that they're only really talking about the DZ70. I would have no problem seeing the DZ70 modified to make it a low-level combat droid - that's what it should have been in the first place.

Why isn't it hard? Don't claim that you "know what makes sense". That is your opinion only. It is not "sense" it is what you believe. Other people believe differently to you. I believe it makes sense to have combat modules available for any type of droid chassis. Always have.

Perhaps you haven't read much of the extended universe stuff or played any SW RPGs. "modified" droids are quite common. Think about a simple one - the torturer droid in Jabba's palace. The "no harm" code was deliberately removed. The same thing with the IG-88s as bugs. There are countless examples of droids being modified for combat abilities. After all, didn't R2-D2 use his welder to shock ewoks with (a stun attack equivalent)?

Oh, and you're quite wrong on the 2-1B being flimsy. they're a surgical droid. They have to be quite strong as one of their assigned tasks is helping to move patients. Have you ever tried picking up a fully grown, non-cooperative person? Far more difficult that you imagine - particularly when you have to be extra sensitve because of medical problems.

Ok fine...prove me wrong...

Find ONE instance of damage done by ANY of the following droids to a person in ANY of the movies or extended universe:

R2,3,4,5: (NOTE: that little "shock" to the ewok did NO apparent damage whatsoever...it was just that, a little shock. You CANNOT justify giving an R2 a blaster with 50-100 damage per hit with that tiny shock).

3PO:

Treadwell:

BLL:

Repair Droid:

2-1B:

[I'll stop here...I have made my point]

As for the IG-88...yeah, that is a combat droid that is probably one of the models being added. It is going to have combat droid functions because it should.

Your justifications are weak, at best...

The 3PO does have a combat equivalent. It's already been posted here once. The skin is the same, but it is black and carries firearms.

Don't get me wrong, I want new models like everyone else does. If they want to fix all our brokeness like cluster stacking, module stacking, non-droid differentation, Repair droids not repairing, etc...I will take that in the first fix along with goofy low and mid level combat droids. The higher ones can wait a month while we are really worked over to the way we should be.

I think this fits in with what they said initially. Low and Mid level droids in Jan and some seriously high ones in Feb.

The lowbies are going to be the "strap on a CDEF pistol" to the R2and the high ones will be the IG-88 assassin and the Destroyer following the quick fix. I just hope they change the existing droids once they are turned into combat droids. An C3PO with 45 hit points wouldnt last long.

OMG. Look at u all. Now wonder we dont ever get listened to.

R2/3PO's with laser beams etc is the DUMBEST idea ever. EVeryone who agrees that combat modules should be added to all droids should go play another game, because believe it or not, we are playing STAR WARS. I wrote it in BIG letters so it may sink into your simple little minds a bit easier.

New combat droids (such as assasin droids, battle droids, droid dekas etc) is the way to go. If you cannot agree with that and want to see MSE's and power droids with blasters attached to there *edit* chassis seriously should go play another game. Pfft. Please people catch a wake up. STAR WARS <<< repeat again for those with impairments.

I know everyone has there own opinions but really, we are playing >STAR WARS< GALAXIES: AN EMPIRE DEVIDED. If everyone had there opinions heard that had ideas like assault class R2's, think of the many STUPID ideas we would have in the game?

For the final time i remind you all, we are playing >STAR WARS<
