Thread: Well, no Certifications in our future it appears....

It sounds like Certs will never be a part of the agenda for DE's due to the combat tweaks. If that is the case, and we were forgotten and left out of the combat mix, how can we get higher level droids into the game at some point?

What about Faction droids that we can make that can only be used in PVP ? I understand pets can be a pain in PVP, but just having a Droideka as an option and the coolness factor may boost sales. Somehow DE's have to get something that is appealing to the 90% of the population that is combat oriented. This would make sense from the "combat droids are illegal" crowd as well because they are being used to quell the rebellion. The rebels could have them too because they would logically take damaged droids back to thier rebel engineers and reverse engineer them to fight the Imperials.

We need some sales boosters folks. What is coming down the pike will be nifty and neat, but I don't think it is going to be our hit ticket item always in demand. We need something that all the faction folk scramble to our doors to get if we can't sell to the general population via certification.

Or, since we now realize it as an either or choice where it was presumed we had more flexibility, we could beg for DH...heh.

I still don't have a problem with the DH/DC idea... but thats not too popular. Along the same lines as faction pets there's the idea of being able to make droids to serve as base defenses. Keeps them out of PVP but still provides good demand. Something better than a storm tropper but not quite as expensive as an AT-ST.

I like that thought, Jenden...droids after all are just automated machines. There are a lot of good ideas kicking around the threads, just a matter of a dev deciding what would fit into things most easily, and what would be the nicest to have...I've found though that often what I think wouldn't be much of an exciting change, turns out to be the best thing they could have done, because it meshes with past and future changes so well. Think I'll wait and see on this new stuff for the next couple patches, keep my fingers out of the 'ideas' forums from here on out.

Faction combat droids and/or droids tied to bases seem to be the only potential option at this point, in terms of getting any sort of meaningful combat droid capabilities in-game. Standard droids will never be above CL10 without a DH profession. This will make them relatively worthless except for new players, unless some as unyet interesting incententive is annouced to make ownership of CL10 combat droids viable.

Yeah, I've been a big proponant of droid module certification myself but I'll guess we'll have to see how the combat revamp works before we can push on that angle any further. When is the combat revamp supposed to go out? Publish 7 or 8?

Yes, the DEV's have declared Certs dead it seems.

I have a HUGE problem with the DE/DC thing. It repeats the gross BE/CH mistake. You don't think its a mistake? Then why are the BE's are just about extinct and they had to give them components that chefs have to have to make the new foods? The BE/CH model is a proven failure.

You guys need to reconsider the Hybrid DE option which means combining in droid handling ability into the existing Droid Engineering profession (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=64286). That or writting off any combat droids greater than CL10 completely, which means no droidekas.

Those of you who think we can cut it off what is essentially a secondary market in utility droids need to get realistic. Combat and combat related products is the main event. Always has been, always will be.

I like the idea of possibly tieing some higher level combat droids to faction play. Perhaps this is something that would make rank worthwhile. The faction rank system could really use a reason to exist and be desired, beyond the FP cap raise it gives.

So...what if a person had to be factioned and had to be at least 50% up in the rank structure to get/use a combat droid?

This might also be an easier 'cert' for the Devs to code.

Of course, the downside is that we still need a way to get them into PvE. However, having higher level DE combat droids (>CL10) for higher level faction players seems like a good idea.

i'm not a DE, but maybe someone can clear somethign up for me....? did TH really say last night that a cert system was not possible, and the alternative is that we are probably getting a droid handling class anyway? tell me i'm reading this wrong.

The hybrid profession thing is a poor idea in the current conext. The DH thing is a poor idea because it just adds more of the same thing, and honestly there aren't a lot of combat droids floating around in the current star wars universe. They would be rares. The certification system got a huge 'no' anyway, and see previous comment on that anywho...honestly, I'd love to be selling hoardes of combat droids to everybody and his mother. But realistically, it doesn't belong anyway. Droids are shown as providing utility, honestly...everything in this game is leaning towards combat, yes, but utility is where droids belong, in this game.

I'll continue to say 'sure' to combat droid stuff cause it means more customers, but I have to get real to some extent...they just don't belong except as automated things we can send out to do our dirty work. Yes, it means we're kind of a marginalized profession in that we aren't going to have huge throughput server wide like a weaponsmith...but then we shouldn't have that kind of throughput honestly...I'd imagine we should be between architect and armorsmith, when you get right down to it, in product throughput, and our prices should perhaps reflect that better...perhaps our resource requirements should too.

Like I said, props to those trying to push combat, I'll welcome the business...but honestly, I won't complain if it isn't there, as it doesn't make sense...heh....Make my droids useful and nifty and I'll be happy.

No...that's pretty much the way I read it.

The combat changes that have taken place must now rule out the possibility of certs. It really is the best solution. But, by way of example, using a faster-than-light method of transport is the "best solution" to get to Mars. We just aren't going to have it anytime soon.

That being said, it seems that a DH/DC class may be inevitable. And....I'm starting to be okay with that.

I'm gonna start a new thread on how we can embrace the DH/DC addition. I want to have higher-level combat droids and if the Devs see fit that DH/DC is the quickest and easiest way to make this happen...then I will have to accept this as the compromise and try to make it the best profession that it could be.

If we don't do this, we might not be seeing higher level combat droids for a VERY long time, indeed.

We battled tooth and nail against this idea and now you're giving in, TK? You started the "DH Profession: Yes/No?" poll way back and we know how the majority community feels on this. Are you now leading the charge for the DH class?

I won't accept "it's DH or nothing". I won't accept "Holo said Certs but we don't want toinvest timewith the code, so we'd rather do a cookie-cutter copy of CHand slap a droideka skin on a rancor" as an answer from SOE.

damnit that's really depressing. am i wrong in thinking TH asked the community what they wanted, the community spoke up and TH said "ok! droid handler!" and everyone said "NO" then he said "ok! droid handler!" and everyone said "NO!" and he said "well, how about utility droids?" and everyone said "YES!" and then he said "ok, well we are just gonna do droid handler anyway, cause while we've been discussing, the team programmed the whole thing"

is that accurate?

i mean i guess i don't care. it's obvious the developers have no interest in keeping the game in the correct timeline, and would rather have a mish-mash montage of star wars eras and concepts. in the end seeing droidekas, roger-rogers, probots, and ig-88s running around will at least make the game LOOK more like star wars. despite the concept of a class to control droids being UTTERLY rediculous. so DE is going to get the DH trees right? i mean, all this discussion is about improving the DE profession, but IMO if DH is a separate class this doesn't help you guys at all, except you now get to craft some different droids.
