Thread: Well, no Certifications in our future it appears....
Chris
I have a HUGE problem with the DE/DC thing. It repeats the gross BE/CH mistake. You don't think its a mistake? Then why are the BE's are just about extinct and they had to give them components that chefs have to have to make the new foods? The BE/CH model is a proven failure.
You guys need to reconsider the Hybrid DE option which means combining in droid handling ability into the existing Droid Engineering profession (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=64286). That or writting off any combat droids greater than CL10 completely, which means no droidekas.
Those of you who think we can cut it off what is essentially a secondary market in utility droids need to get realistic. Combat and combat related products is the main event. Always has been, always will be.
I like the idea of possibly tieing some higher level combat droids to faction play. Perhaps this is something that would make rank worthwhile. The faction rank system could really use a reason to exist and be desired, beyond the FP cap raise it gives.

Along the same lines as faction pets there's the idea of being able to make droids to serve as base defenses. Keeps them out of PVP but still provides good demand. Something better than a storm tropper but not quite as expensive as an AT-ST.
So...what if a person had to be factioned and had to be at least 50% up in the rank structure to get/use a combat droid?
This might also be an easier 'cert' for the Devs to code.
Of course, the downside is that we still need a way to get them into PvE. However, having higher level DE combat droids (>CL10) for higher level faction players seems like a good idea.

Respectfully,
No...that's pretty much the way I read it.

i'm not a DE, but maybe someone can clear somethign up for me....? did TH really say last night that a cert system was not possible, and the alternative is that we are probably getting a droid handling class anyway? tell me i'm reading this wrong.
The combat changes that have taken place must now rule out the possibility of certs. It really is the best solution. But, by way of example, using a faster-than-light method of transport is the "best solution" to get to Mars. We just aren't going to have it anytime soon.
That being said, it seems that a DH/DC class may be inevitable. And....I'm starting to be okay with that.
I'm gonna start a new thread on how we can embrace the DH/DC addition. I want to have higher-level combat droids and if the Devs see fit that DH/DC is the quickest and easiest way to make this happen...then I will have to accept this as the compromise and try to make it the best profession that it could be.
If we don't do this, we might not be seeing higher level combat droids for a VERY long time, indeed.

I'm seriously not okay with it.

We battled tooth and nail against this idea and now you're giving in, TK? You started the "DH Profession: Yes/No?" poll way back and we know how the majority community feels on this. Are you now leading the charge for the DH class?
I won't accept "it's DH or nothing". I won't accept "Holo said Certs but we don't want toinvest timewith the code, so we'd rather do a cookie-cutter copy of CHand slap a droideka skin on a rancor" as an answer from SOE.
is that accurate?
i mean i guess i don't care. it's obvious the developers have no interest in keeping the game in the correct timeline, and would rather have a mish-mash montage of star wars eras and concepts. in the end seeing droidekas, roger-rogers, probots, and ig-88s running around will at least make the game LOOK more like star wars. despite the concept of a class to control droids being UTTERLY rediculous. so DE is going to get the DH trees right? i mean, all this discussion is about improving the DE profession, but IMO if DH is a separate class this doesn't help you guys at all, except you now get to craft some different droids.
