Thread: Pricing thoughts for new items?

I know thisvery much depends on the galaxy you live in, but I wascurious and wanted to put this out there for consideration.

Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated (I did some searching and couldn't find much on this subject. If I missed it, I apologize in advance).

For unprogrammed command modules, I was thinking of either 500 credits a module or 1000 credits a module.

For flight computers, I was considering 5K for a level 1 computer and then adding 2K for each level after that (up to 15K for a L6)

I always have a tendency to charge too low so I was curious what others were thinking. (That said ... I don't believe in and won't hike prices just because something is new.)

(edited to fix my lame math )

Due to the Factory time involved, and the fact that Droid Command Modules are single use, 500 to 1000 credits is right on target, in my opinion.

If I was to offer Flight Computers on Live, this is what I would be charging..

Level 1 = 5k

Level 2 = 7.5k

Level 3 = 10k

Level 4 = 12.5k

Level 5 = 15k

Level 6 = 17.5k

Thanks for the reply, Drashk. I'm just going to go ahead and standardize on what you listed. For all I knew I WAY undercharging on the computers. Nice to know we're on the same page.

Well, keep in mind that its been a while since I last priced my Droids on a Live Server, so my pricing might not be what others would charge.

On the Test Center, I'm more then likely going to charge 200 credits per Droid Command Module, and around 1k per Flight Computer Level.

Then again, Test Center Pricing is a little different then Live Pricing.

You will probably be seeing all levels of FC's on the bazaar for 6k.

Although for what they do, 20k is probably a fair price.

Sorry, but who would buy a level 5 module when the level 6 is only 2.5k more? IMO There should be an exponential differance between modules, or else there will be nomarket forlevels 1 through 5. No one would want them because they're pocket change when considering the cost of an entire ship.

I thinkof it this way:Your level 1 module is your basic car... a Dodge Neon, and the level 6 is the best of the best...say a Lamborghini Murcielago. What's a Neon go for these days? 15k? What about the Lambo? Probably a half million IF you can find one. Around a 30 fold increase. Is the cost of raw materials to make the lambo that much more? No...it is higher, but not 30 times higher. The builders of the Lamborgini know they build the best in the world...just the like every server has that famous weapon/armorsmith that can command incredible prices for their products.

Level 1 = 5k 5k

Level 2 = 7.5k 10k

Level 3 = 10k 20k

Level 4 = 12.5k 40k

Level 5 = 15k 80k

Level 6 = 17.5k 160k

The Droid Engineer profession has been stuckin the CPU stone age since launch. It's time to make a market for those level 1-5 schematics...the ones we rarely use, and make the best we can offer worth something!!

Doctors have enhancements. Weapon and armorsmiths have loot enhanced wares. Creature handlers have mounts. Artisans had vehicles and Chef had themost incrediblerevamp in the game. Many professions have had their 15 minutes spotlight (or is that 15 months). It's time for Droid Engineers to be recognized and rewarded.

Of course, in the end shipwrights will take most of the credit

All levels of these modules will be needed and used because Astromechs/Flight Computers require certification to use. So depending on your skill level you will need different level Astromechs and Flight Computers.

Even if you could use a level 6 FC or Module and it was worth 100k+, you could never get what it was worth. The fact that they are so easy to make and are all identical means they will be cheap.

Ya might want to do a little catch up reading on the subject, since you are out of the information loop about the Level 1 - 6 Flight Comptuers.

A Level 1 - 6Astromech/Flight Computercan be used by a Master Pilot.

A Level 1 - 5 Astromech/Flight Computer can be used by a xxx4 Pilot

A Level 1 - 4 Astromech/Flight Computer can be used by a xxx3 Pilot

A Level 1 -3 Astromech/Flight Computer can be used by a xxx2 Pilot

A Level 1 -2 Astromech/Flight Computer can be used by a xxx1 Pilot

A Level 1 Astromech/Flight Computer can be used by aNovicePilot

To Clarify, the term Astromech refers to any R-Series Droid with a Data Pad installed.

And to put things into perspective here are the number of resources that each Flight Computer will need. Resource quaility does not have an effect on the Flight Computer, so you will be able to use any resources when crafting them.

v1 Flight Comptuer = 68 resources

v2 Flight Comptuer = 93 resources

v3 Flight Comptuer =118 resources

v4 Flight Comptuer = 143 resources

v5 Flight Comptuer = 168 resources

v6 Flight Comptuer = 193 resources

Ok so our most expensive item will sell for under 1k maybe then. There are people who sell on a strictly CPU basis. They insist they make money doing that. So 193x 2 = 386. Now not even they would sell for that cheap. So 1k is probably right.

I also have my doupts about the prices. First, you can use the cheapest resources for them and you don't even need much. Secondly, even if you try to match prices with current R Units, you can easily make a standard R5 with a Data Level 1 - 6 for the Rebel ships that use Astromechs.

So I think the realistic prices will be way lower. I normally try to make prices based on resource cost, demand in the market and usability and even then I would guess price range will be between 2.5k - 15k (at least at first) and later the prices will go even lower.

Ok here is what I came up with. This is for just bare bones R droids or FC, with no storage or anything in the Droids.

Level 1 FC and Level 1 Astro Droid with Data Module = 15,000

Then simply add 2500 for each level except the 6th. At the level 6 level, add 5k. That means a a level 6 Droid, or FC will cost 30k.

Droid Command modules I will be pricing at 10k a crate of 25. Each person will probably need 2 crates over their space career.

Now add up, how much a pilot will spend over his entire Pilot career on Droids. Droids x 6, plus chips, you end up with 150k.

150k over their entire Pilot career, as they level up, that doesn't need to be paid all at once.

Compare that to weapons, armor, food, and shipwright costs, and that isn't that bad. Many ship componants (that wear out,) will cost more then that.

Will my prices be undercut? Absolutely. I'm sure many will fall into the "more sales is better" trap. They wont consider how much people are willing to pay happily. Think about it, the difference between a 1kFC and my 15kFC is about the price of 2 starship tickets. How many people actually care about how much a ticket is? Not many.

What rates the certification level of the R2 Astromech? Is it the actual R2 unit of the level of the Data Storage module placed inside? I made an ADVR2 with two level 4's and it came up Level 6 Cert needed, so if I put in a level 1 data module in an ADV R2 it will be level 1 certification required?
